I ask myself how many of the people that now hates the desing of this vehicle (That to be honest, to me looks very busy. The first time I have used that word with a model, but all of those misile launcher boxs are unnecesary) would hate the desings of classic 40k that they love if 30 years ago they have had the age they have now.
We have to consider that as we grew older, what we like grews stangnant (And we become more critical because all the experience, obviously). I'm pretty sure that all of this will be loved by every 10-16 years old out there. I have show it to my 11 year-old niece and he has loved it.

I think that if they were going to introduce new Space Marine vehicles, they should have changed the design more. This just looks like a janky Land Raider.

It isn't so much the actual design that I dislike, it is the development of new technologies. GW made a great setting, based on the stagnation and decay of a once great empire. They have to release new model designs to survive as a business, that is understandable. However, they are really starting to push against the fluff that made so many people love the setting. It is nowhere near what they did to fantasy, but all of this "hope" is a bit weird. My Guardsmen don't know how to cope!

I agree with all of that. Thats why I have convinced myself that just as i like both the Old World and Age of Sigmar, to me theres two 40k. Pre-Guilliman and Post-Guilliman. Basically Warhammer 40k and Warhammer 41k.

Part of it is context. If this were a new game with no history, the tank would look goofy, but may be fine. Within the context and history of 40k however, it really does look like a bad mishmash of multiple existing designs.
The minimissile launchers are the dumbest part that would look goofy regardless

I totally get the design direction of it, and given a better, more fitting paint job i think theyll look really cool. Its a "modernized" look for Space Marines.
Ive already got that covered with my collection though, and its Primaris only, so I'll pass.

I like it. The pintle-mounted Rotor Cannon looks a little big, and it does look a little busy with all the missiles, but overall I think it looks cool.
I do like that missiles are defensive. I'm hoping that more vehicles get some sort of defensive wargear, although I play Orks and that would kind of be bad for us.
I hope that GW doesn't totally abandon the run-down universe aesthetic, with the Imperium of Man worshipping technology rather than truly understanding it and being resistant to change. I don't think it ruins things for the IoM to occasionally get new technology, either by rediscovering lost technology or sometimes developing something new and getting approval for widespread use. I think that Rowboat coming back and putting all of Cawl's super-secret projects on the fast track is a good fluff excuse for GW to introduce a lot of new Imperial stuff all at once, but I hope there is some limit to it and the IoM doesn't fully go to Great Crusade ++ level of technology.
(I think that the idea of something cruder being invented as a replacement for more advanced tech that can no longer be produced or maintained is fun. Something like "We can no longer produce this fancy laser, but we can strap a bunch of more basic lasers together and/or build a really big cannon that accomplishes the same goal.")
Edit: It could use more skulls, bits of parchment and other nonsense though.

I think it would look less crappy if the bottom of it looked in any way sensible. It looks like the design process was:
Design team: look at this guys, people have been asking about the tank between the land raider and the predator for ages - I think I've finally nailed it!
Marketing: yeah it's pretty cool
Design: 'pretty' cool? Pretty cool? It's freaking awesome, it's almost exactly halfway between the 2 tanks, it's got sweet weapons, and it fits the Space Marines aesthetic perfectly.
Marketing: ah, yes, aesthetic. Did you get the memo?
Design: what memo?
Marketing: you know, the memo. Space marines are, like, sooo last millenium. So we've ditched them for the new super duper marines.
Design: you did what?
Marketing: yeah, they're like space marines, but super duperer. So while your tank is nice, it isn't super duper enough.
Design: right...
Marketing: yeah, super duper marines are just better than marines, so this won't do. *sips latte, adjusts impeccable eyeglasses, gazes onto the distance* can you make it fly? That'll be super duper
Design: yeah... I suppose... But that take a few weeks to fully redesign
Accounts: oh hi guys, was just passing and heard you were going to redesign something you'd already done
Design: yeah, we didn't read the memo. We need to make this awesome tank more super duper by making it fly, but it'll take a while...
Accounts: hmm. That sounds expensive. Can't you just take the treads off and glue them to the bottom of the tank - just say it's how it's supposed to look
Marketing: yeah, cool xeno tech on a super duper marine vehicle do it! We're off to brainstorm a name for it - want a latte?
Accounts: is that company latte?
Design: fine, whatever, super duper marines yay!

Thbbt. Give me the Custodes skimmers over that any day, the "staple a bit of a Land Speeder onto a Rhino" thing isn't working for me.
(Though after my experience with the vehicle-stunlock mechanic that is "retreat from combat" I expect this to be the edition of Skimmers/Fly-capable vehicles, so it isn't that surprising that the super-duper-Marines are getting one.)

I mean...I shouldnt be, but I really wasnt expecting a ChibiRaider/Predator/Land Speeder lovechild abomination.
I really dont know why they allow anyone but FW to design new vehicles at this point, it's clear the main design studio is hopeless.

Aside from the excessive missiles/mortars, I actually kind of like it. It reminds me (vaguely) of the skimmer tank made from spoons and deodorant from the original rogue trader book. Plus it's the first space marine vehicle that, while excessively armed, actually looks like it could hold all the ammo for its weapons. 3 energy weapons powered by the same power plant that fuels the grav system, what look like one-shot mortars and defence missiles, and an auticannon or heavy stubber whose bullets are comparatively tiny. The pintle mounted gatling gun's spare ammo is bolted to the exterior of the tank. I would venture a guess to say its transport capacity is a combat squad.

With out the turret missiles (and assuming the hull launchers are Assault Launchers) its got roughly the same number of weapons as a Predator.

the IoM may not use anti-grav tech much in 40k, but it's certainkly there, every ship in the IoM employs the tech, land speeders employ it. and the Tau use it, and it sure looks like we might be seeing some reverse engineered Tau tech in play here. or even Necron Tech (given Cawl was digging around in what sounds like some of their ruins towards the start of GS3)

Yea it just seems like these people should be playing flames of war or something. All I see these days is how everything is so 'over the top' 'cartoony' 'not grimdark' '5th edition is better' and quite frankly its boring me. I'd counterpoint saying this is the same universe with the goofy mad max orks, but quite a lot of people these days don't even think they should be in the game because 'too silly'. You can't win.
Its just a land raider with a predator turret. No, it doesn't look more tau or alien. You want sillier grav vehicles that look even weirder? Look at the custodes and sisters of silences ones.
Yea, chop of all those antennae, they look dumb. But overall its a cool hull.

The Custodes vehicles to me look hideous. Like spray cans put together.
The Sisters of Silence ones in the other hand, they look horrendous, but in a good way, because what they are supposed to represent.
And in general FW vehicles look like real world vehicles, not 40k in any shape or form. But thats what some people like, and thats totally OK for them. For some people Tau don't belong to 40k. To me they add a contrast that by comparison makes everything else looks even more grimdark. But " anime crap" or " Herobright"
For the matter, on twitter Tom Walton.

I agree the missile boxes on the turret are out of place but I prefer the remote style turrets for marines more anyway (so first conversion make it more razorback less predator)
If I was really feeling converty I'd want to do a shout out to the Custodes grav tanks and their grav "pontoons" so maybe rebuild the front end to look like the sicarius' track "horns"
and make the lascannons another remote turret ala landraider Heavy Bolters.

one thing for those saying it looks too busym, this is presumably, as most studio models are, the vehicle with "all the trimings" there may be a lot of stuff that is optional. (pintal mounted guns are almost always optional)
