Nice, I much prefer the old XV15s, the new seem to big and clunky

Definitely one of the models that suffered from the transition to plastic. You can tell they were designed to fit on as small a sprue as possible. No wonder the old metals go for a huge premium on eBay (I got all mine back in the day).

Some Kroot Carnivores!

These lads were given to me by a friend, who got them from a former friend, who did a terrible job of cleaning and gluing them together. So much cleaning and such happened to make them presentable. But hey, free minis!

I did a fairly quick paint job on them. Khorne Red, Carroburg Crimson wash, drybrush of Wild Rider red. The spines are INSTAR's Golden Brown matte with some Agrax Earthshade (chosen because it's got great coverage for a yellow-brown over red). The Vests are Reaper's Orange Brown with some Feugan Red wash. They're painted to match Farsight Enclaves as well as the terrain I use for FSE because they're sneaky bois. I kinda regret the wyldwood contrast on the gun grips but I didn't want to use the Orange Brown on that. Other than that I'm pretty happy with the result compared to the effort, in the past I tried way too hard with Kroot and it's not something I want to spend 3 hours per model doing

Very striking red there, you got hounds to go with them?

I think I have a couple packs of 2 metal hounds from way back when I never opened.

I dug out an old metal Kroot Shaper (came along with the free Carnivores) to lead the squad to lunch.

He's a bit shiny because the varnish is fresh, but I'm not leaving a metal model in the dangerously unvarnished state, especially when it's as tippy as the Kroot Carnivore, I should have stuck him on a 32mm base or something.

Those old stealth suits are so much better than the new ones. I agree that some grey would help break up the piranha nicely.

For more Kroot variety, Dahyak Grekh from Blackstone Fortress. I'm sure he'd do great as a Shaper with the new relic kroot rifle.

I gave him a bit more color blending and highlights than your average Kroot Carnivore, though I didn't want to spend ages and ages on him. Pretty happy with the end product.
