Maybe it wasn't a ghost but a skeleton hiding about. I've even heard that there is a skeleton hiding inside all of us but I imagine that is just an old wives tale to frighten us.
Archaeological digs have proven that the world was once covered in skeleton people. They must have outnumbered us flesh folk by huge margins, since you rarely find any of the latter group except in bogs, mummified, etc.
Kinda scary to think about an entire civilization of bony beings just walking around. *brrrrr*
I wonder what wiped them out? Maybe aliens?
No supernatural encounters to report here. Had a few episodes of sleep paralysis in my younger years, which isn't a supernatural phenomenon although many mistake it for one. Oh wait..I once dated a girl that didn't show up on film. This was pre-digital. A friend of mine took pics of us, and all of them came out like there was a light leak in the camera. Thing was that they were the only bad pics in the roll, and weren't even sequential.

I have never experienced night terrors but I did once experience sleep paralysis and it was vividly real and emotionally harrowing, much more "real" to me in a certain sense than the prosaic, materialistic hand-waving of the daylit world.

Did you have any accompanying hallucinations?
During my very first experience, I saw a dark shape over me, and 'felt' some kind of unfriendly presence. But that was the only time I experienced anything beyond the paralysis itself. Some people have absolutely horrifying hallucinations with their episodes.
It's interesting to consider just how many ghost stories and abduction narratives might be fueled by sleep paralysis episodes.

Yes, I had the full experience. My "presence" was something akin to Captain Howdy. In the dream state, I was able to get up and move around while my physical body remained paralyzed. It was a flight or fight situation and it felt like I was simultaneously trying to do both. I recently watched Phantasm for the first time and the way the main character (the little brother, Mike) acts made perfect sense to me once I realized the significance of the film's title.

Well, that was definitely more intense than mine.

Are you sure it was sleep paralysis and not an internal bone person holding you down? It's easy to confuse the two.
Seriously though, sleep paralysis and waking dream phenomena are some freaky stuff.

No, it wasn't a rattling calcimte. The presence (initially, standing outside the window, scratching the pane) was more like Richard O'Brien cast as the aforementioned Pazuzu. That was during the main paralysis stage. Later, during the astral projection stage of the experience, it was more like psychic suffocation rather than a figure.
