I prefer Star Wars as it was during its theatrical release. While I was excited for the Special Editions (I saw them in the theater), I hate them now. Boba Fett appearing as one of Jabba thugs, the additional CGI around the Mos Eisley, the extended singing of that ridiculous alien in the beginning of Return of the Jedi, and of course, the worst part, Greedo shooting first, just to name a few. I am ok watching older movies and their limited special effects, and are more annoyed with the revisions trying to catch it up with the times than to just leave it as it was originally produced.
If they could have added anything in the Special Editions that I would have liked, it would have been the deleted scenes of Luke and his friends and even the chic with Solo before Ben and Luke sit at the table.
I personally love the idea of everything going on in the universe of Star Wars AROUND the characters. Love the cantina aliens, and imaging what their stories might have been.
In my mind, Lucas was re-making the movie NOT as he intended, but for a new generation of kids. I think his mind changed on how the events should play out for them and upgraded the effects to keep them interested.
And Episodes 1-3 are terrible. If Star Wars was awesome because he lost control over it, then Star Wars was an accidental mess that turned out to be awesome.
In my Star Wars universe, its just Rogue One, A New Hope, surrounded by bookends. I love Empire, but don't need it.
