I find this is something that's more overwhelming because of the way its presented than in actual practice. I'd strongly suggest picking up MayaNet, as it gives you the ability to click on a model in your army and just see it and what its rules and weapon does. Also, just play. In game there aren't nearly as many rules and options available as there are during list building.

How I see it, I think if you get the basis of Infinity's rules the rest usually comes with practice and games under your belt. If you are not oppose to having notecards, I found writing some of the rules out as reference does help.

I would also only really try to learn what your stuff does. Don't try to learn what your opponent's stuff does as that will be information overload.
