And why do capital ships when fighters work better for such a game system?

Imperial ships are really big and slow right? I feel like they wouldn’t really work in that system at all.

As opposed to sail ships which were notorious for their ability to turn on a dime.

Pirates was never a game of accurate naval combat, But it was just a fun game that got alot of people buying packs either to collect cool models, to use in other systems, or to just mess around with a few quick games.

reskin it is traders gathering archeotech, or use the rules from wizkids own pulp space version which included fighter squadrons.either way it seems like doing something unexpected like that that can act as a comic shop pocket money gateway to the 40k universe would yield better results for wizkids than yet another dice masters set or limited run clix line.

As to why do capital ships? Because they look cool and they're a good aesthetic shorthand for what the 40k universe is. Big, lumbering, gothic nonsense in space.fighters would just be x wing with ships most people don't recognise.

BGG thread. Buried inside is that Zev Schelsinger (sp) formerly of Z-Man games made changes to WizKids, which may not be taking effect.

So... under new management, possibly. Whoever GW partners with, if it keeps the old GW boardgames in print, is fine with me.

It’s a grimdark mash-up when Games Workshop’s iconic Warhammer 40,000 meets WizKids’ Dice Building Game in Warhammer 40,000 Dice Masters, which streets next July. The initial wave will include the Battle for Ultramar Campaign Box, the Orks – WAAAGH! Team Pack, and the Space Wolves – Sons of Russ Team Pack.
Set in the dark sci-fantasy world of Warhammer 40,000, the game allows players to build teams of iconic characters and warriors to battle it out for supremacy using custom dice and cards. Warhammer 40,000 Dice Masters uses the game system designed by Mike Elliott and Eric M. Lang for Dice Masters, and will be completely compatible with other games in the line. There will be four factions available at the start, and players can build teams using a single faction, or mix and match to create their own Dice Masters team.

The initial release of Warhammer 40,000 Dice Masters will be centered around the Battle for Ultramar Campaign Box. This starter box will be a fixed content set that includes everything needed for two players to play the game: a force of Ultramarines, a force of Deathguard, Sidekick dice, Basic Action dice, and dice bags for both players. More than 12 characters appear in the set, including the Ultramarines Primarch Roboute Guilliman and Chief Librarian Tigurius, as well as the Deathguard heroes Typhus and Mortarion. MSRP is $39.99.

Players can expand their games with two separate Team Packs, each introducing another faction to the game. The Orks – WAAAGH! Team Pack offers the uncontrollable Orks, with the infamous Ork warlord Ghazghkull Thraka and the Boyz and Warbikers under his command.
The Space Wolves – Sons of Russ Team Pack, meanwhile, introduces Logan Grimnar and the Venerable Dreadnought at the front of a Space Wolves Space Marine force.

The two Team Packs each include 24 cards and 16 dice. They are intended for use with the Battle for Ultramar Campaign Box. MSRP is $12.99 each.

WizKids announced plans to produce a series of games set in Games Workshop’s Warhammer 40,000 universe back in October (see “WizKids, Games Workshop Join Forces”).

Warhammer 40,000 Dice Masters follows a new DC Comics Dice Masters release in April (see “Harley Quinn Pulls a Bait and Switch With ‘Dice Masters’”) and a Marvel Dice Masters title in May (see “‘Marvel Dice Masters’ Reaches ‘Infinity’”).

Are Dice Master games actually any fun though? I've seen them on sale, and I'm afraid to say all the pretty colours and random looking dice leave me really quite baffled!

Dice Masters was fun, but the prepainted minis WizKids put out are just about the ugliest paint jobs ever created. A blind cat licking paint onto a model would put out a better paint job. When you see a ‘Clix model in a cabinet selling for $30 and the eyes are painted in the hair and the hair is actually only painted halfway? Sigh...
Don’t know whether to be interested or scared. So I guess I’m cautiously interested.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Dice masters is pretty fun - just a fun little game at the end of a night. There's only dice and cards, not prepainted miniatures though

When I saw the original announcement I had a huge feeling this would be the first property. Not terribly surprising to anyone I'd imagine.

I love dice, so tried to get into Dice Masters when it was just Marvel, but it just never clicked with me.

I did like HeroClix, but this was back in the day, and the whole "flier can carry someone, and then that someone can attack" ruined it for me.

Dice masters is an ok game, it's really just a deck building game that uses dice, so if you like the deck building style of game. you might like this one. The problem is that Wiz Kids did such a horrible job rolling out dice masters that the game died shortly after launch. In my local hobby stores, after the initial launch, no one could get starter sets. The booster packs were cheap, so a store would have to sell a lot of them to make any money. Speculators ran around town buying the very little product available and putting it on ebay for large amounts of cash. It then took about 3 months to get a restock, and by then the hype was over and people had moved on. This was a classic example of how not to do a launch. At the end of the day, people who play GW games are miniatures gamers. They don't usually branch out to card games, though they sometimes play board games if there are miniatures in them. Wiz Kids products are appearing less and less in my local game stores. I think it is because their pre-paints are terrible, they have redone their super hero game several times and it is still not a great game, their other games are terrible. Really, right now the only hit they have are the Deep Cut minis that sell like hot cakes!

Honestly, anyone with cash could probably get a GW licence and offer to produce non miniature based games.

No point reading too much into this one. Wiz Kids have some cash to splash on a licence and have a readily available back catalogue of games they can just transpose a few images onto.

Dice Masters is one.

Dont expect anything new to come out of this tie up.

Love dicemasters. Very cheap, affordable, collectable, fast, easy to learn, and great fun if you have a family.

I'm all in for 40k dice masters sets. Great way to introduce the kids and wife to the 40k lore, heroes, etc.

Was disappointed when I tried the game, as others said like a deck building game. You don't even get to roll the character dice, they just sit on cards as a point value yawwwwwn

Uh, no? Once you have purchased a character die in Dice Masters, you get to roll it whenever it gets drawn from your bag.

I don't know about this one.... Looks like crackhammer, or Battlefleet Gothic Assault Wing in the works. We'll see what the new year brings.. Just make sure you hold onto your Family Jewels.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

Hm, guess GW doesn't expect much from WK.

Would have liked to have seen something more from this...but then again, I wouldn't have given WK any more than this either.

I'm back!

I really hope that they don't make Battlefleet Gothic. I preferred the rules to Battlefleet Gothic over the X-wing/Attack Wing Game.

With the specialist games coming back: necromunda blood bowl , and titanicus upcoming. My guess is any Battlefleet gothic is gna come from within GW , that's just too much miniature money to leave on the table.
