I can see why people wouldn't like it to be fair. It's not in any way sophisticated and does rely on getting you on board with the concept early.

“Good people are quick to help others in need, without hesitation or requiring proof the need is genuine. The wicked will believe they are fighting for good, but when others are in need they’ll be reluctant to help, withholding compassion until they see proof of that need. And yet Evil is quick to condemn, vilify and attack. For Evil, proof isn’t needed to bring harm, only hatred and a belief in the cause.”

Entirely serious. It was bad dick jokes, gore effects and the constant drone of a really boring monologue. Though 'trying too hard' is pretty on point as well.
It clearly was written as a spoof of a character drama, but came off as the actor just reading lines in a bad suit, and a couple cardboard cut-out extras.

How did you get "profoundly bored" out of his performance? He was...invested in the character. I could see "unfunny" or "annoying" (though I disagree), but "profoundly bored" is a total non sequitur that makes it sound like you're talking about a different movie..or maybe smelling toast. I was just confused.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

Yeah, it's hard to be objectively wrong when discussing entertainment preferences, but saying the guy who spent years trying to get a film made and did most of the marketing for said movie himself because he's so invested in the character and has so much fun playing him was "profoundly bored" is as close as you'll get.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"Your society's broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it? No, lets blame the people with no power and no money and those immigrants who don't even have the vote. Yea, it must be their fething fault." - Iain M Banks
-----
"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

Well, it was pretty spot on from the source. The bad suit was on point for the Deadpool suit and it is kind of Deadpool's thing to monologue constantly, especially during a fight sequence. Because you know, he is one of those special characters in Marvel that is allowed to break the fourth wall.

Knowing the source material would probably help. The only thing it was missing really were the yellow and white text boxes arguing with each other constantly. Which I am happy they ditched. Not because I hated them, but because it would be so difficult to implement in to a movie it would be easy to ruin it.

Edit: So, maybe some spoilers here for the next season of Daredevil. But is anybody else kinda sad.....

Spoiler:
that Deadpool is jumping straight to his Cable arcs and not staying with his solo stuff? Don't get me wrong. I love the Cable & Deadpool series. But after I saw the announcement that Typhoid Mary would be in the next season of Daredevil, I was sad that we would never get to see her arc in the original Deadpool run. It was certainly interesting how it played out and in the end, it was a very very sad arc. Also, needs more Taskmaster, but that is a different issue.

Huh. Thanks, Voss. Today I learned that it is possible to have a wrong opinion on the internet! Everything you just said is completely untrue, Reynolds worked with the creators of Deadpool to make sure the character was top notch, he invested years into this project, and busted his ass to make sure we got the Deadpool film series we deserve. If you don’t like the character, then all power to you. But it was a VERY good adaptation of the source material. Were there minor changes? Yeah. Bob should be in HYDRA, Ajax should be working for Dr. Killbrew (not being in charge himself), and Weasel should be the weapons guy, not the bartender (Patch). And leaving out the Hellhouse crew in exchange for no-names wasn’t necessary. But those are nitpicks. Minor things that might even over complicate the movie for casual moviegoers. This film? This film was alexcellent. And the second will be too. Because they are projects of love by the people working on them.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Ah.... yeah. It's Deadpool. That's pretty much how the character works. If you were expecting more you were probably in the wrong theater.

Did you not know anything about Deadpool before seeing this one? Because that is pretty much Deadpool's schtick- he frequently mocks himself/the genre/the writers/etc. I can see how if this was your first exposure to DP, you wouldn't like it (DP is not for everyone!), but it was very true to the source and definitely a labor of love for Reynolds.

Same, just happy they said X-Force.

Also, I either forgot Terry Crews was going to be in it or I had no clue. Pretty happy about it though.

The IMDB Plot Summary for this is pretty amazing.

On a side note, is it weird that the thing I'm most excited about is that Dopinder isn't in jail and will actually be in the movie? Cause I was watching the teaser and my firs thought was "Dopinder yes!"

Terry Crews? Is that you?

Now I know why Tiki Barber replaced Terry on the second season of the Ultimate Beastmaster!

New - FINAL - Deadpool 2 trailer:

I've enjoyed everything I've seen of this so far, and this trailer just makes me want to see it even more.

"So dark ... You sure you're not from the DC universe?"

And of course there's a slow-mo crotch rub

I've watched a few times and the last 20 seconds or so make me crack up every time... That regular guy skydiving. I'm not a comic book guy so no idea if there's something more to him or if it's just something they thought would be funny.

Just a guy it seems. Deadpool has a revolving door of normie sidekicks like Weasel, Bob, and Blind Al. Probably just a new one for his Norm's Gallery?

I miss Bob now. :(

Left me totally cold.
And was pretty much the first time I've not found RR funny as DP.

Guess I hate the song, care nothing for the singer and thought the DP angle was straining the otherwise kind of acceptable DP level of trying too hard ...

I'm going to agree to disagree.

I feel they did that perfectly. The thing I always worry about when Deadpool comes up, is them diminishing the others around them but this is a great example of them avoiding that. - The song is essentially taking one hundred percent 'real' and seriously, the same as any other song with Celine Dion. And then you add Deadpool, who does Deadpool-ey things but everyone else is still acting pretty legitimately.

Thumbs up.

I can agree with that. It's hard to do the things Dead Pool does while coming off as charming rather than demeaning and Ryan Reynolds gets it even if I can agree his delivery in the video feels a little phoned in.

Alright, that was awesome. Props to CD for doing that. Great performance, and great job putting DP in his place at the end.

Always open to having my opinion changed, and just rewatched it 2x with that in mind ... but, nope ... I guess I just don't like the song (that "kind" of song, maybe) ...

Maybe .. maybe if RR had been dancing ... that would have been all kinds of awesome!

Maybe I just don't fething get it

Still can't wait for DP2 to come out"

DP2 is going full troll and going for an Oscar as a superhero movie. They got a famous, Oscar winning artist to sing a beautiful, original song in a movie genre that has historically been snubbed by the Oscars. On top of that, it is for a movie about maybe one of the least classy comic character to ever live.

This whole thing is beautiful genius.

First reactions:

It's.. okay. It's the same tone as the first, and it ratchets up a lot of the humour (and there are some genius comic moments at times - one post-credit sequence drew a cheer from the audience) but I think the plot is a little bit disjointed, although it just about works in the end.

“Good people are quick to help others in need, without hesitation or requiring proof the need is genuine. The wicked will believe they are fighting for good, but when others are in need they’ll be reluctant to help, withholding compassion until they see proof of that need. This.... this "joke" has so many layers.... it is brilliant. I agree with Dreadwinter 5 or 5.5 out of 11.
