I think much of that may be a matter of evidence too. It's one thing to try a general from an established state force and find official orders and communiques that support the prosecution, especially those who were trying to make names for themselves, many were quite showey with their activities (good and bad). Often detailed records of where they were and when, what information they received and what orders they gave are available. It's another when it's a milita group where no records were kept and half the members are dead and the rest aren't talking.

It's not that long ago I read an article about one of the Serb Generals who bragged in front of foreign press about the success of his forces etc. When asked about the town his forces were currently besieging he said "if it becomes a problem...", then drew a red X over it on a map he held up. His forces took the place within a few days and their actions after that is pretty much the reason he's in prison now. So yes, some of these guys didn't only leave evidence but also stated in advance that they were going to carry out gruesome war crimes.

Yeah, a lot of people involved in those wars were pretty open and boastful about their actions, it kinda boggles the mind the irrational levels of both arrogance and hate involved there.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

I spoke to my father-in-law about Praljak's suicide and then about this thread. He was born in Croatia, he migrated here in his late 20s for work. He was disappointed Praljak escaped justice for what he did, just as he was disappointed some Serbian's escaped justice. He said the names, but I didn't catch them and I wasn't sure what he was referring to. Then I mentioned some of the things said in this thread, and he lost his nut. Long story short he is very disappointed in a lot of you, and thinks selfish and stupid attitudes like yours are exactly what allowed 'all bastards to start the war and is what will make it happen again'.

Anyhow, just look at these two quotes, both from the first page. The courts are terrible because they let the Serbians off, and the courts are terrible because they only punished the Serbians. Ridiculous, really.

There were some judgments to Serbians, yes, but for the most parts it were always the lower ranks. Only one Serbian general was ever convicted for crimes commited to Croats. Furthermore, the formulations of the verdicts were entirely different. In the verdicts against the Croats, it was said that the Republic of Croatia had planned for these crimes to happen, although when and where were never mentioned. On the other hand, Serbia is completely absolved of any guilt, with the reasoning being that it is no longer the same state, despite the fact that the same people are still in charge.

The Haag trials were never more than show trials. A huge amount of Serbs have been convicted, and virtually no Albanians or Bosnians. They make it seem as if the Serbs are the guilty party, while in truth atrocities were committed by all sides.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Adam Smith, who must have been some kind of leftie or something.
