Inquisitors and their retinue as well as rogue traders have access to power armor, it's just very expensive. At least, that's how it is in the lore.

No more absurd than creepy crawly sitting on legions of primaris for 10k years.
Makes perfect sense that one of the, if not the richest organisation in the imperium can throw some moolah at the mechanicum for some sweet swag. Between enforced tithes, compulsory tithes and voluntary tithes, the powered armoured needs of the sororitas are probably loose change to the ministorum.
If nothing else, refusing to supply the god emperors church with the means to defend itself is probably frowned upon as heresy and treason.

Probably because Scions are supposed to operate in a more self-sufficient manner. Carapace armor and hot-shot lasguns (and grav-chutes) probably don't require much in the way of maintenance compared to power armor.

Probably a lot more Scions than SoB as well. Sisters just move around in bigger clusters.

To continue with what John is saying, the sisters also tend to operate near a base location more often, so they stay near their logistical base. Much like space marines though, a good part of a sister's daily duties is seeing to the upkeep and repair of their armor. Unlike most space marines, that also includes cleaning it.

Also, though there aren't any rules for them, in fluff there are other power armored organizations, such as the occasional mercenary force, rogue trader body guards, some of the crusader houses, and even some guard regiments and PDF's.

In fluff the big reason is the High Lord of Terra at the time Goge Vandire was using the SoB as his personal bodyguards and were known as the Brides of the Emperor. He found them when they were a small cult (at the time Daughters of the Emperor) on one world and he tricked them to gain their loyalty and being the High Lord of Terra and eventually the head of the Ecclesiarchy, as he was known for dirty politics and assassinations. With Vandire being the High Lord of Terra he could easily acquire the funds to arm them however he pleased.

High Lord of Terra Goge Vandire, Reign of Blood, Age of Apostasy. He would order the execution of entire populations if one random person looked at him funny because he was paranoid As Fuk. As High Lord of Terra he could get pretty much anything that he wanted on a whim.

I have a box in the closet with lots of them, slightly larger than a shoebox. Stripped them all down with paint stripper, washed and dried them and put a little CLP on them. Haven't touched them since 2004. Have never used them in a game. Don't even have bases for them.

Now you can call me a jerk, but no- I don't want to sell them yet. I am keeping them, and not using them. For a reason.

When Plastic Sisters do become a thing, we will see scores of guys saying how much better and cooler the old metal models were. Whether this is objectively true or not, I don't care- but I bet I'll find at least one idiot willing to throw down some money to get his 'retro cred' on the table.

While I do have a few Squads (and some unbuilt ones, too) I use Raging Heroes models instead of GW for the infantry. And yes, that includes Celestine - the new Celestine wouldn't really fit, and RH has a really awesome model that works perfect as a stand-in..

Haven't yet had the time to grab Immolators and Exorcists, so I usually run Whirlwinds/Razorbacks as stand-ins for those.

Remember that the Ecclesiarchy is the only Imperium organization that can raise it's own tithe galaxy-wise and that basically all their expenses are vanity projects.
And that the Ecclesiarchy is also the only organization to have MULTIPLE high lord seats.
So yeah, they have more money than tempetus scions.

The Ecclesiarchy has enough money to do this fairly routinely and everywhere.

I'm sure purchasing power armour and power armour accessories is well within budget.

It is pretty interesting that there seems to be a lot of third party Sisters options available soon. Raging Heroes already have theirs, and now Anvil, Wargame Exclusive and Shieldwolf are making Sisters product lines too.

It's capitalism. They saw a niche, and are exploiting it. This is actually the biggest reason why GW would squat the sisters, much like they did with tons of units in other codexi.

Its my first and only 40k army. I have somewhere between 2500-3000 points I think. Maybe more.

All sisters, though I have a squad f Sisters of Silence in the box still. And all GW sisters, but I do have a Ramshackle Games APC to fill in as a Repressor.

I have been playing historical miniatures for a while and have an Ancient Greek, a Medieval Hungarian and a Later Imperial Roman army all in metal, so the metal may not bother me as much as others. However, I did a recent ECW army in plastic, so I definitely look forward to plastic sisters if they keep the same aesthetic. But the current cost!!!

I know its personal opinion, but to me the models themselves hold up pretty well, especially when painted with an ornate Gothic style. (Of course, some of the current GW models in plastic, esp for AoS, just are not to my taste at all).

I love the Sisters. I find the lore fun, the models great. I may paint another 40k army someday, but probably will just keep adding to my sisters. Maybe another order with another paint scheme.

Here is a question for Sisters owners, what is the best way to start collecting them in terms of building a cost effective and playable army?

I couldn't get behind Sisters even if they were released in plastic because being a loyalist faction immediately drops their appeal to me and they don't have an astoundingly cool aesthetic to make up for it like AdMech does. Which is a shame, because frankly I'd be quite happy collecting an all women faction... I'd ask for Chaos Sisters but I just know that it'd get Monkey's Paw'd into a Slaaneshi cult.

I don't own a Sisters army, but I've looked into it. Here's my thoughts:

Immolators as transports for Dominions.
Immolators as Rhinos - the extra cost for the Iconography and doors is worth it.
Exorcists as Exorcists if you like them, otherwise Whirlwinds with Sisters doors stolen from Immolator kits.
Ebay or local scene to get metal sisters models.
GW as last resort source for metal sisters and for St. Celestine.

Actually a quick look on eBay.ca shows that it really is cheaper and better to buy your Sisters fresh from GW.

4 very badly painted seraphim, $80 plus shipping.

Raging Heroes hot nun model, $70 plus ripping er uh, shipping.

GW. Actual box of Sisters, unpainted not ruined by amatuers, $90 plus shipping which can be free if you buy Cannoness Veridiyan too.

For once GW is the cheapest, best place to get an army. Mind you it's the oldest second most expensive line in production but...

Try Ebay.com, where squads of 5 dominions are bidding at $15 USD. Obviously Ebay is going to be up and down, and it's not the only second hand market. Assembling a full army off Ebay could take a week, a month, or a year, depending on your luck.

While I'm not as big a fan of shield wolf's sisters models (as SoB, their otherwise fine), I do love their tanks. I wish I could just pre-order a bunch of those.

I have enough to run an ally detachment back in 7th. If they where plastic I would probably buy more but they are to expensive.

I picked up Sisters in 2nd ed upon release, was bummed when they didn't get plastic troops in 3rd ed like every other armies (bar Grey Knights) and by 5th ed I didn't see a point in using them anymore.

I have around eighty infantry and two tanks, which by Codex Witchhunters was somewhere around 2000 points I believe. No doubt it's less than that nowadays.

I hate metal and only bought metal Sisters because that's just how it was back then. Since then GW has switched to plastic for pretty much everything else and I couldn't bring myself to expand my army with more metal models. Which, given how points got decreased and the prevalence of heavy weapons in armies has skyrocketed since 3rd ed, would be necessary to even play the same game with my army as everybody else.

I bought Veridyan and Celestine (not the least to tell GW there's demand) and up until the very end of 7th ed I would have bought a new army of plastic Sisters without batting an eye. Had the money save up and ready to be thrown at GW as it were. I am thoroughly dissatisfied with 8th ed, though, and I honestly can't say if the appeal of the models would be enough to buy plastics now. Part of me still wants to, just to have pretty models (I bought Custodes for the same reason). But I can't claim to actually want to play them right now anymore than I want to play my existing metals.
