Not where I should be

Sweet, lucky boy. Looks spot on. Sure you will manage to finish it off nicely.

I have myself been gifted a similar thingy, not even sure how much I have but I have a large box full of R2D2, really not sure what to do with it. Hundreds of pounds worth of magazines. Guys just said he wanted me to make something interesting out of it. Seems a little sacreligeous to make it into anything other than R2D2, but do you remember that ork model in R2 camo a couple years back, well that has me wondering about an ork stompa, but hey ho.

Sure yours will be amazing, always fancied a "falcon" might scratch one before I am done.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far, away...

Has it really been so long... wow...

Well, here we all are, making the best of it all as we can. What have I been up to you ask? Well, truth be told, not much hobby wise. I did try to get my Bolt Action US paras painted up during early part of lockdown. Was work from home at that point, but didn't get too far as work kept me busy. In June I went back to the office as deemed mission critical staff and found hobby time non existent... the year flew by it felt (for me anyway)

And now we're caught up. So, whats on the horizon.... 3d printing is what. Got an Ender 3 v2 for Xmas (bought in black friday sale). Had a few misprints and frustrations with bed adhesion, but on the whole, this is a good experience and getting me slowly back in the groove

Ender 3 v2, pre-assembly

Obligatory Benchy test print
[/url]

Millennium Falcon keyring

AT-AT kit - had some issues with pieces lifting and warping from the bed, but fairly happy with the result

Asides from needing to learn 3d modeling, I've trawled thingiverse for ideas and files, got a few saved down - primarily terrain. Idea is to churn out some multi level platform type terrain that I can use for necromunda, SW Legion, Infinity, etc... also looking at sci-fi corridors, for Space Hulk. Watch this space I guess...

Good to see you back

I didn't realise just how much the printers came in "kit form", that's quite an intimidating pile o bits.

Always tempting to get a printer, but I think you really need to commit to it, hope you get those teething problems ironed out.

Something I have seen a lot of people do is lining the print bed with blue masking tape, not sure if that applies to the Ender or not, though...

Yeah, been trawling through the multitude of YouTube videos on the subject and plenty of good advice, including blue painters tape. Will keep plugging away and find out what works best for the various prints I do

And, I just saw the 3d forum here on dakka....

and, 17+ hours later we have the biggest print I've attempted.

Death Star laser turret dice tower....

not a 100% perfect print, but not far off. One of the laser guns supports fell over as the print reached the level, meaning the printer was trying to create this part in mid-air! Surprisingly, it was partially successful. An easy fix though, can either clean it up and greenstuff it, or print a separate gun for the turret...

That looks really nice - Smooth edges and nicely crisp.

The quality is pretty damn good, layer lines are there, but they kind of add to the model IMO. They can though be smoothed, either by sanding or a light application of acetone(depending on the filament used) . Printed a fe non-hobby related modes the last few week, but today is back to business. Zone Mortalis style walls/doorway - this is one of half of a thingiverse mode

When complete, will have been around 8.5hrs print time. Will set the other parts printing overnight

Wow, the quality of prints never ceases to amaze me. This is great stuff, and so early in your adventure in experimenting

Looking forward to seeing some impressive layouts!

Thanks for sharing

Yeah, loving the 3d printer - even with the odd frustrating failed print thrown in...

Found an awesome x-wing at Legion scale so sliced it and started to print

Plan is to turn this into a crashed x-wing similar to the one in Rogue One - Jedha battle scene with Chirrut vs Stormtroopers

And we're done... had one failed print on wing tips so had to redo those - one of the wings fell over during print and I was left with a lot of grey spaghetti!

All fits together nicely though, now to glue it - kudos to the designer though, the model is lovely

That is a gorgeous model. I am really impressed at the quality of such a kit! Now to paint it.

Time to resurface, been mucking around with various stuff and had a couple games of Bolt action and xwing when covid allowed... Bought myself a few 28mm Sarissa precision ww2buildings for Xmas and the build is on...

Not going overboard with detailing, but will add some rubble here and there. Will get some better pics as these progress

Here we go again, time forvanother revootbto kick-start the old hobby mojo (hopefully). Wennt to SELWG games show last year and bought 02 Hundred Hours starter set from Grey For Now Games (designed by Graham Davey). This is a WW2 skirmish game based on night raids and comes with Wargames Atlantic multipart figures for German sentries and British SAS. Very characterful minis, loaded with details. Should go well with my other WW2 minis and the mdf buildings I started last year

Spoiler:

I also bought a new board game - Sniper Elite : The Board Game. Based on a video game of the same name. Looks fun from the gameplay video I've watched. Yet to have a go, but should be seeing my gaming buddy mid Feb to give it a whirll

I want both games please! They sound fabulous. And I know that some of that wargames Atlantic gear is brilliant and very good value for money. Been looking at getting so.e as imperial guardsman proxy.

The WA figures are very nice. As good as Warlords Bolt Action plastics I'd say. I think the Germans are an older design compared to the SAS, slight scale screep noticeable, but on the table they'll be just fine. Not sure about their other ranges though.

I'm hoping to get some paint out this weekend...

Moved up to 1:1 scale with a build of stormtrooper armour ongoing this summer. The kit was sourced from a UK maker, RWA Creations. I have all the armour (plus helmet) in 1.5mm ABS plus webbing and popper kit to put it all together. Also have belt, holster and neck seal and a whole load of work ahead. Onwards to 501st approval
Box full o'plastic...

Spoiler:

Plus 3d printed e-11 blaster - lots and lots of sanding ahead on the many, many parts....

Wowsers, that's exciting!

Loving the E-11, without all the sci-fi bits on it yet, you can really see that it's just a Sterling SMG
