The Shire(s)

It has got to be the Revenge for me, the ship captained by Sir Francis Drake against the Spanish Armada, and an exemplar of a new kind of ship. It's final moments were truly gallant.

Always had a bit of a soft spot for the CGN-9 Long Beach, partly because it was the precursor to the Aegis-equipped Ticonderogas and Burkes that are ubiquitous to modern US CSGs, being the first naval vessel in history to have a phased array, but also because of just how utterly weird it looks:

Seriously, even teenaged me who saw a picture of it in Jane's Fighting Ships couldn't believe that it wasn't some abnormally detailed illustration of some new future ship.

Since we're including Sci-fi vessels, I like to nominate the Bengal class strike carrier, the TCS Tiger's Claw

Concordia and Victory may be superior ships, but if you were in the Vega sector in 2654, you'd want to be on the Tiger's Claw.

Lotta punch but armour vunrable to 8 inch fire.
And that fire damaged her fuel conversion system...

It was a heavy punch, but it hat a thinner jaw tha. Ships packing similar guns.

Great cruiser, and convoy hunter. Long as she kept her disetence working her big guns. Closed.. Her armour was not up to fire of armoured and heavier cruisers.

A very situational powerful warship.

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all.

I kept a complete log of every mission I flew from Wing Commander through Secret Missions and all the way through to the end of Special Operations 2, because when you're a teenage sci-fi fan in the early 1990s nothing makes playing PC games cooler or more fun than tacking a bit of unnecessary admin on the end.
