Pleased to have had photos of my miniatures accepted into the GW Flickr Group pool!

I'm a bit surprised GW considered them worthy given the standard of the other painting on display but I'm not complaining

My plan for this week is to get the Whirlwind shaded and dry brushed. I'm not sure if I'll get time to do any more.

Tanks just take so long. Not really difficult, just so large and daunting. I always run out of stem halfway through the project and have to force myself to return to the bench to finish them off.

Given the colour scheme I was already calling it the fried egg launcher but I can't unsee crayons now

The modern WW has nothing on the old classic one, which looks exactly like someone just lashed a bunch to the top of a rhino.

Good question. I want to get a photo of my whole army together, and also get a few more games in.

After that I'm not sure

So here it is - 600 points of fully painted WYSIWYG skirmish army

Congratulations on hitting 600pts painted so quickly. The models looks really good together, very clean and consistent.

You get those people who complain about over reliance on drybrushing, but this just goes to show how wrong they are when it gets large groups of models on the table looking this nice.

What's the next step for the army?

Thanks - that was my aim and I'm happy I chose a technique that was fairly quick and gives good results for a novice like me. Even so, the skirmish army above plus the First Strike miniatures I painted before have taken me a total of about 50 hours to complete (5 hours per batch) over 3 months.

I want to get a few more games under my belt with this army first, but after that I think the target has to be 750 points. GamerGuy has already come up with an excellent suggestion on this thread:

https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/762789.page

Having said that, as a less competitive option I'm also quite tempted by a Terminator Librarian - I don't yet have a psyker and I really enjoyed painting my Terminator Captain...

That seems like an excellent suggestion. If you did go that way, I'd suggest using parts from either the Ultramarines upgrade sprue or Sternguard kit to model up the Lieutenant. Both have parts that would be good material to convert a lieutenant from a regular marine.

If you do end up with a Terminator Librarian instead, obviously you would need a squad of Terminators to go with them! No idea how good they are in the current edition, but your HQ choice will get lonely without other Terminators to pal around with!

It's tempting for 1000 points but I'm not sure how competitive it would be...

So my next challenge is a Landspeeder Typhoon. I'm not a fan of non-helmeted marines, so I used the spare gunner's helmet from my Whirlwind

I've also ordered a Space Marine Commander which is ready to pick up at my local GW. A bit of an expensive purchase (for a single miniature), but with that I'm going to build a Lieutenant with storm bolter and lightning claw to continue the WYSIWYG theme.

I’m not sure how well CA18 treated the speeder, but I think they got some point cuts. I was disappointed in mine’s performance in 8th, but a flew the heck out of a pair of TML/HB speeders in prior editions. Nice mix of mobility, range, and firepower. Effective enough to get the job done, but not so nasty as to bump themselves up the target priority list. I’ve got one sitting in my to-paint pile I really should get to one of these days.

The SM commander box is a nice one, but a bit dated. Tons of cool bits, but showing their age. I really wish they would re-cut the sprues, but it seems like mono-pose HQs is the way of the future.

Why a lightning claw for the Lt.? He already gets to re-roll wounds of one, so you are paying a premium for the ability to re-roll the other results. You might be better served with an axe, or other higher S weapon instead. With the axe, you pay less points, and wound MEQ on a 3+, re-rolling 1s, rather than wounding on a 4+ , re-rolling all. Or go big with a powerfist.

Fair enough.

I’ve modeled thing is the past I knew that were sub-par on the table, just for looks. Unless you are playing on the top tables and need to squeeze ever last ounce of power out of your list, there is plenty of room for including cool stuff in your army.

The gamer in me, rather than the hobbiest, like to ask why though. Just to make sure.

“Looks cool” is a totally legit reason to model something. Especially on something where it’s only a few points, and not useless, just a little sub-optimal.

Yeah it's just one character's close combat weapon. TBH my whole list is a bit sub-par, but having interesting models with interesting rules is a big part of why I'm in the hobby.

There's something really cool about having a Space Marine with a lightning claw and storm bolter. To me they seem like they ought to be terminator weapons.

I just finished priming the landspeeder and should be picking-up the commander on Tuesday...

That’s either the “Onward to victory!” pose or he’s about to slap some heretic. Either works with the LC. I would assume that anyone at the rank of Lt. has achieved veteran status, and qualified to wear a crux terminus. Looks good on him.

Not to be that guy, but you missed a mold line on the strap of the SB.
