This particular fan base makes death threats to authors of children's books and freaks the hell out about women and minorities being represented in the game.

No, it doesnt. A small and vocal part of this fanbase (a part which would include the man-children referred to in the tweet that inspired this thread) does that.

Please retain from tarring all of us with that same brush. Most of the fanbase isn't like that at all.

Well I'm not talking about everyone who has an interest in tabletop games, scifi, fantasy, video games, etc...I mean...here I am. I certainly don't have any issues with fair representation, nor do my friends. That said, I don't know that I'd say it's a small part of the community that does. There are YouTube lore channels with 100,000+ followers that regularly post videos complaining about feminist, and minorities trying to change the hobby as opposed to just being happy with the prospects of getting more model options.

I'm not saying that you're wrong and I'm right... I certainly hope you're right and that I'm just over reacting to what I've seen. It's just disconcerting to see, what I perceive as sooo many nerds being racist and sexist over something that everyone should be able to immerse themselves in without any concerns about nerd ragings.

Something to consider about this is that GW has limited production capability as well as obligations to its shareholders. Let's step back from these real life representation questions a bit for something that's an actual problem right now:

Do you think Ork and Eldar players that would like to get their old metal/Finecast models should be happy with the prospect of getting more models if those models are Marines?

As has been the case oh so many times because Marines are what pays the bills, GW prioritizes Marines again and again and fans of other armies have to watch them get the fourth updated Tactical Marine box before even one of their units gets updated to plastic (talking about Sisters here - you just know such reference needs to be in a thread like this). Meanwhile, less popular ranges get a slow trickle of updates.

The issue isn't (always - obviously radicals exist that oppose fair representation on principle) that there is a prospect of getting more models, it's the prospect of getting different models. It's the thought of reassigning resources from something you like to something you don't like (at least as much), and not getting the latter on top of the former, that drives many people to oppose change. It's accepting the realities of a limited business with limited time and resources. If everyone could get everything they want, there would be a lot fewer voices that begrudge others their stuff.

Can we all work to make this the most exaulted post in Dakka history?

We can certainly try.

I'm so outraged I'm going to try and find the doom rider books to buy because I've never heard of them and that guy looks epic, then I can rage more when they kill him off. Gaaaarhhh anger...

OP:

I suspect The GW fanbase is actually far larger than 1,000 people. I'm surprised you didn't know that.

Perhaps I misunderstood; are you saying you know there are more than 1k GW fans, but JR thinks there are only one thousand?

Otherwise, how on earth could you possibly believe that JR is discrediting the fanbase as mewling man-children?

It is abundantly clear to me his comment is directed at a noisy minority of complainers.

My good sir, thank you for this information. I sacrificed myself combining the words "not sexy enough" and "thundercats reboot" in google and.. people are far too creepy about their cartoons...

Time to scrub my eyes and childhood with bleach.

I dunno, from what I recall the Thundercats were naked for most of the first episode of the original series.

Couldn't see much because of the fur, but still . . .
