Nice, very atmospheric.

I need to "Pick up the Pace" on my entry. I can't believe it's the 19th already. Of the five models, four of them are plain black with the skin areas blocked in. I might not finish all of them, but hopefully I'll finish one or two.

I'm still waiting for my models to arrive...damn this month is gonna be tough..

I hear you, Modock and felt!
I'm going to try a little Necromunda scene with the models below...however, I go away from the 22nd until the 1st of next month so I don't know if I will get any of it finished!
Anyhow, proof -

Phew! I made it. Here's my entry. Man, this month was hard! Not so much time constraint or difficulties with painting the miniature, simply choice! I found this category difficult to select something for, but at the end of it I'm glad to have gotten something done. This is why I really enjoy this challenge - it really keeps you pushing your limits of the hobby in every which way! Good luck everybody!

I'd say go for it, an 8" move is still pretty fast.

Well here are some WIP shots. Not real thrilled with how they are turning out as an entry, but its not a bad quality for a horde troop unit and I learned a few things. I mainly learned that trying to highlight black on small surfaces is a nightmare, but I did enjoy painting the carapace. I'll probably add some blood effects to the snow to try and give the base a little more life before I call them finished.

Might want to put a little more into the base so it doesn't let down the stellar paintjob.

And refuse to love the Spinosaurus because it is a hamfisted attempt at taking what you loved, making it TREX +++ and trying to sell you it.

For those wondering where the subject poll is for next month, there isn't one as it's going to be the traditional Halloween spooktacular! The variation on that for this October's theme will be:

Nice. I should get back to cleaning mold lines off Nighthaunts. I do have a trio primed for October, Time for the spooks to come out and play.

Well I'm finished. Happy with the unit, but not the picture. Can't seem to get the lighting right to capture the blue of the eyes, and the white stripe on the sgts helmet. I will try and get a better one but in the mean time;

I've just slapped brown on the base for now as I haven't yet decided what basing to go for, lol.

@JamesY, the light looks very “head on”. Are you using a flash? Diffused light from the side and slightly below head height might work?

Still, really nice looking models; I like your version, Howling Griffins tend to look like toys to accompany an 80’s Saturday morning cartoon to me. Yours actually look like a realistic application of heraldry.

@Jadenim, cheers! No I don't use the flash, I have lit them from the sides. I'm thinking that the lights were too close, so will try moving them further away. If that doesn't work, I'll try and diffuse it a little more.

Some fantastic entries again this month!
I've just finished a ten-hour drive to get to Sydney with three kids and a wife in the car, so I'm wrecked but here are the pics of my Escher rider. I wanted to do a rider for Necromunda - the jetbike could act as an objective or such...so here it is.
The paintjob is not the best I've done but I tried to concentrate on the way the light reflects off surfaces like the armour, gun and background and am fairly happy with the osl. I don't think I have really been getting much better as a painter but I am definitely getting a lot faster.
Finished...

Good luck everyone!

PIP pics coming on the storm-grot as soon as I can borrow a decent camera (basecoat and shade done, but highlight still needs doing), but first a quick question about the contest in general -- does throwing a quick brown wash on a white-primed miniature (all over, just so you can actually see where the details are and find mold lines etc) disqualify it from future competitions?

Everyone's entries on this page look incredible! Big fan of Chris56's piece, really loving the panels and OSL on the vehicle! Also that Plague Drone looks amazing, Zergsmasher, very impressed with howly cleanly you've made it look disgusting!

Unfortunately, I will have to withdraw from this month's competition. I just realised I have 6 days to wash, scrape, spray, and fully paint 5 Assault Marines while also negotiating back to uni days, work and concerts. Just not happening this month but I will be on board for next month 100%!

@chris56 - that looks amazing. Great combo of figure, scene and colour scheme.

My own PIP below. I should just about have enough time this week to.finish them.off to a standard I'm happy with.

All 3 are base coated and the blue is washed. Tomorrow I'll move on to washing the grey and silver bits hopefully.

Base coat and wash has been allowed for me previously, so I assume it's still fine.

WIP for the storm-grot -- needs highlights still. Forgive the awful photography, and ignore the cat hair

He does actually have a head, but it's on a little stick and hard to photograph.

No idea how to highlight the balloon, I may just end up getting a smoother red coat, and hitting it with satin varnish (after hitting the whole thing with matte).

So a bit behind this month, and the false start I had earlier in the month didn't help. Tried to do some stuff quickly but well, and just kinda got frustrated at errors and had to reboot with something else. So, back to the same well as the last few months:

proof pic:

(the red pantaloon brigade in the background are actually my first try for the month)

WIP to today:

Doggos may not get done, really need a bunch of highlights and I'm kinda short on time for them. Bird I'm debating whether to call done and base, or risk put a drybrush of MSP amethyst purple on the edge of the feathers (and risk getting waaaay too much on and ruining the kinda black-purple effect)

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Sorry for the double post but: Silly thought on the balloon Coh Magnussen, but possibly either do some kind of pattern on it, just to break up the big red area ("dakka!" and starbursts possibly?), or just shade up from a darker red to a pinkish at the top?

Finally done, this was more difficult than the dreadnought. It would spin on the base as I tried to hold and paint so I ended up holding it on the seat panels then when I needed to change position the paint would peel and I has to touch it up (very frustrating)

Come on in Stormwall, always room for more.
Rybrook, yeah, paint peel feom handling is always annoying, getting some of that on the tail of my bird.
Dropping a WIP, just gotta do some work on the bases, and take some photos over the next few days...
