Will just add that page 5 had a big long post by Tre about his plans for the game.

I know it's from way back, but are those sculpts just sitting in a drawer somewhere - they were never released, right?

Could just use them for a start and go from there, rather than using these newer (and much less interesting) sculpts.

I was at Reapercon around the time of the start of that thread and Tre was there showing things off for SDSP and stated that he wasn't satisfied with any of the sculpts and designs. Some of the figures he had sculpted 10 times and still wasn't happy with them. Not sure if that's the reason why he's not using any of them. Could also be people's scale expectations have changed and these are too small to really sell in today's market (I really can't buy old sized RBG stuff as everything looks like halflings compared to the rest of my stuff) or that he's changed a lot of the concept and doesn't like any of the old designs anymore. 4 years is a long time.

I wouldn't worry about that too much - I doubt anyone was overly influenced by your posts here, or anyone else's posts here either.

It was more down to not having any samples to show of this new super secret awesome 'resin', not saying who is doing it or showing samples of their work, people being leery of that, and the selected warband being mostly a 'been there, done that' aesthetic.

Multipart metal might be a pass for me, unless as noted above he really has the connection points well defined and designed to go together well, and securely.

I think this totally would have funded if he had just put up some more head designs and sent emails to his previous campaign backers. I think the generic and culture ambiguous bodies could have been over come by interesting head designs instead of just rehashed Helsvakt heads.

When it comes to the secret resin, people only had misgivings about the "secret" part, not the resin part.

Sign me up on the "multipart metal is a pain" list too!

Even in the Facebook comments the material was clearly not the main problem. It figures that the established customer base would have a preference for metal over resin. But then they're also going to prefer the Norse/D&D-type Fantasy of his existing range over whatever type of Fantasy this new project is.

Tre's been getting by mostly on a core group of regular backers. That's not a great business model anyway, but it'd be a really dodgy basis for a new product line. There's got to be a market out there for the new range, but you have to reach them, hook them and convince them.

I said it a few times before - I like the way Tre does female figures. I'm interested in an Amazonian warband, or other female-only group. The priestess was heading down the right path, but could have done with a bit more distinctive jewelry. I don't want or need male barbarians. They're everywhere. The only thing that would a male group apart from all of the others is elaborate clothing, armour, weapons, and/or relics and other cultural bobbles. The ones we saw in this campaign were too generic but again, I liked the priestess.

Same, except I very much want to see Tre do some male Greco-Roman- (“Atlantean” if on the more fantasy side of things) style things. His style I think it perfect to make them way morw dynamic and interesting than the vast majority of sculptors accomplish.

Relaunched: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1103158358/warbands-of-wrath-and-ruin-0

This time they're in metal. The goal is only $2,500 so it'll easily get funded.

Set of 8 Foot Warriors, with modular heads and weapons, for $40.

The Priestess (or any of the individual Warriors) is $8.

Not sure how I feel about the switch back to metal.

Will have to think about this a bit, as I'm not sure that 'regular humans' were going to be one of my factions of choice for the SDSP anyway.

If they weren't multipart I would probably back just because I like tre's stuff but thinking of trying to keep those hands glued in has me hesitant.

Sorry if I've missed it, but will these new, metal barbarians also be on the small-ish size? How will they scale alongside old GW WHFB human models (not AoS stuff, which I'm not interested in)

Thanks!

I play...

Sigh.

Who am I kidding? I only paint these days...

they are in scale with regular RBG humans if slightly ont he larger side. they do not scale well with GW. The matter is not height it is the grith of the limbs and torso and lengths there of. To make figures scale well with GW I have to basically make GW figures and that would mean they would not look like RBG figures. Sorry man. :(

Thanks gusy! I am excited about this! Regading the joins there will be piloted holes in both the wrist and hand along with a cup and ball to helpt eh join.

I backed! Will we see any of the new non-helsvakt helmet styles? Or more WIPs during this project?

I'd love to see some of the guys get sandals.

footwear has been a real point of contention for me in this project. Sandals are TERRIBLE for combat prowess, BUT they are period / civilization accurate for the world these guys belong to. I am still somewhat undecided what to do with their feet really.

Non Helsvakt Helmet styles? Like what? I am always open to suggestions. I had considered usign the frazetta style square face cut out bowl helmet style.

and yes there will be more WIPs added to the project very very soon. hopefully tomorrow.

Of course, being your world, you can make up/change/add to your heart's desire, so if you decide that leather/fur boots with or without metal toes and/or shinguards are a thing for these guys who obviously are able to work metal because helmets and swords and axes, then they're also period/civ accurate...

I linked several pictures upthread of helmet styles that I think would be very cool. The Frazetta square cutout would also be cool. Basically any design inspired by ancient civilizations (Sumeria, Babylon, Egypt, etc.)

All of the helmets we have seen so far look like the same design you've used on a lot of previous barbarians. For example, these guys:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1103158358/barbarian-hordes-by-red-box-games, or these guys:
,
even look at the icon from a different past campaign:

They have the same shape, the same eye cutouts, same flared flange at the bottom. They are the same helmet design, just without the horns, and an added ridge.

I haven't heard that sandals were bad for fighting, but I'm no expert. I think the Romans wore them into combat. I think sandals on a few would really set them apart from other western/middle ages inspired barbarians in boots.

What about a head with a big huge oiled and curly beard ala Babylon? There aren't enough bearded barbarians out there!

PS. Man, linking those earlier campaigns of yours really makes me wish I had the money to pledge for them back then.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
What about changing one of them to have a leather brief thing rather than a loin cloth? Like this one:

Hard to get more iconic desert barbarian than that. I don't think there are many other barbarian minis out there that use that look.

I like the WiP of the lesser Chosen. I’m waiting on seeing the Chosen sculpts to figure out what I’ll pledge for this time. It’s a bummer we won’t see these in the new material but I’m glad the campaign is going well enough to get funded already and get the more interesting sculpts revealed.

truth be told I am wondering if the change back to metal was a good idea after all! It seems as though it is the designs rather than the medium. Which for me is disappointing. But I suppose it is just a matter of making better designs.

I am going to be working on the lizard man sculpt over the weekend.... I have had to work a day job this past week and will be back at the day job next week again so I wont have a whole lot of time to get any sculpting done as the day job is a very highly labor intensive job in severe heat and humidity so it wears me out. I am hoping I can get the Lizard man done and another Chosen done as well and maybe a few concept pieces to show where the idea goes from here.

Stay tuned!

I feel like the feedback here was pretty clear on that :/ - I was a bit disappointed to see basically identical barbarians and priestess in the re-launch when so many people here mentioned how plain they were being an issue.

Exactly!

Just about everything in that thread should still be available as a 'preview' and possibly even on offer?

Because just about everything in that thread is awesome!

yeh it has been a long time hasn't it?

Well that Lizardman was not quite what I wanted it to be then and is definitely not what I am looking to achieve now. I think that the new version I am working on will " hit the spot ".

But I believe if you did a kickstarter for the models that you were showing off in that thread, you would probably have a healthy number of us come back for it, even if they weren't eventually used in your game!

Tre, one point of inspiration to consider regarding unit composition (not art style, as you have your own distinct and awesome one!) is Warhanmer Underworlds. People buy lots of warbands because they're all unique and interesting, and they're all also mono-pose.

If you're making a skirmish game, rather than starting with very generic minions that could work in any warband (and thus have very little character) consider making awesome minions specific to one warband.

Maybe you only start with two "factions", but they've just got to have more interesting sculpts than what you started with here. I think it was an intentional choice on your part, but the market has changed, and I think your concept needs to change with it.
