Thanks amazingturtles! I've been finding myself dreaming up scenarios and stories about the miniatures that I'm painting during this project, and it's almost like I'm racing to finish them so I can jot down my thoughts. I'm glad you like them so far.

With the rest of the nurglings finished this morning, I only have the 20 pink horrors to go before the move and I've achieved my goal! The progress will probably slow right down after the move and return to work so it will be nice to have a decent start to the army pretty much ready for the table.

+++ Canphor System - System-Wide Imperial Acclamation XVI.86641 - Emergency Medical Procedures in the Wake of the Viridescent Slough Epidemic +++

Many members of the general populace in the Canphor system have now heard of the outbreak of Viridescent Slough - also known as orbrot, scarbloom, and greenhex, among others - after the return of the Belber IV probe to the orbital disease control center on Luna Tresellus.

The Officio Medicae have conducted an extensive study on the disease in question and have discerned its exact point of origin, and its method of spreading.

We know how to contain it - though we learned far too slowly - and reducing the spread of the disease will require the thorough circulation of the following information.

1. The symptoms of Viridescent Slough are consistent and noticeable. Within 24 hours of being exposed, the skin of the infected person will begin to blister and display discoloured lesions that form in a repeated, recognisable pattern. Attached is an image of the lesions of a typical victim for ease of identification.
2. All persons suspected to be contaminated must immediately be isolated from the uninfected, and reported to the Officio Medicae immediately.
3. No physical or visual contact - even through glass or plasteel - is to be made with persons suspected to be contaminated at any time.
4. If you believe you may have made contact, physical or visual, with an infected person - you must immediately report yourself to the Officio Medicae as you are at severe risk of infection.

With the help of Imperial citizens and via the ministrations of the Officio Medicae, the spread of Viridescent Slough can be contained to the Canphor System and its victims treated in a timely and efficient manner before being returned to their families and communities.

+++ System-Wide Acclamation Ended +++

+++ Tightbeam Canphor O.M. ODC-LT3 to Terra O.M. BDC-T3 - Viridescent Slough Containment Procedures +++

Please find attached a copy of the system-wide emergency proclamation being presently forwarded through the Canphor system, as well as images of the diseased persons currently in transit to the Officio Medicae offices on Most Holy Terra.

Similar processes are to be followed for the samples being sent to Terra. It is advised that they are not removed from their containers until contact can be safely avoided.

+++ Tightbeam Ended +++

+++ Tightbeam Terra O.M. BDC-TC to Canphor O.M. ODC-LT3 - Re: Viridescent Slough Containment Procedures: HIGH PRIORITY +++

Please find attached a summary of this morning's events and a copy of the system-wide declaration presently being forwarded through the Canphor system.

0601 - O.M. Officer Tako Halifax receives message and images forwarded from ODC LT-3. Information is passed directly to Halifax's superiors and the delivery wing prepared to receive live samples.
0817 - Officer Halifax begins to show signs of discolouration at the wrist and neck, despite remaining entirely within sterilised Imperial facilities.
0833 - Officer Halifax self-reports to the Infirmary with symptoms typical of Viridescent Slough.
0845 - Infirmary is quarantined - Officer Halifax and all staff who treated him are removed for cleansing.

Canphor O.M. ODC-LT3 is required to stop broadcasting images of Viridescent Slough immediately. All members of the medical staff who have treated victims, and all surviving members of the Belber IV probe - even those who made no contact with Specimen 0 - are to immediately report themselves to the office of resident Inquisitor Hyrical Vex.

Further information will be transmitted shortly.

+++ Tightbeam Ended +++

+++ Canphor System - System-Wide Imperial Acclamation XVI.86647 -

The Officio Medicae of Most Holy Terra are ordering a System-Wide Emergency due to the presence of Viridescent Slough within the system.

All citizens of the Canphor system are to remain indoors until otherwise noted as officers of the Officio Medicae carry out planet-wide detoxification processes from the air. This process is deadly to humans, both infected and uninfected. For your protection, it is of paramount importance that you maintain quarantine with the uninfected in a safe, enclosed area.

Another Acclamation will be broadcast when the detoxification process has been successfully completed.

+++ System-Wide Acclamation Ended +++

+++ Tightbeam Terra O.M. BDC-TC to Terra O.O.X. VC-1 - Canphor System Cleanse in Progress +++

Lord Inquisitor,

As per your request the system-wide orbital cleansing of Canphor has begun. Cleansing should be completed within three days.

All images of victims have been destroyed and a list of all persons who had seen them has been forwarded to your office.

The Officio Medicae appreciates your vigilance and assistance in the matter.

The Emperor protects.

Well, I got the last 20 horrors done today, from base coats to basing. After that slog, I'm convinced that these little terrors really do have a negative impact on your sanity...

The herald has been rebased on a 32mm base, as standard for heralds on foot. The other base in the photo will eventually belong to a herald on a disc.

Here's a couple group shots of the army pre-move: 1 herald, 30 pinks, 20 brims, 10 furies, and 6 nurglings. Not bad for roughly 2 months work!

I'll be a fair bit slower on the updates for a while with the move and work taking precedence as well as rugby starting back up. I did sign up for an AoS escalation campaign though, so I have an extra bit of motivation there - to learn a whole new set of rules as well as make a list that won't get wiped off the tabe on turn one!

From a preliminary look around, blue horrors aren't as bad in AoS as they are in 40k, and pinks can split for free, so I'll have to make a few blues up. I'm thinking the first 500 points will be a herald on a disc, 10 pink horrors, and 3 flamers. Keep the horror points for summoning as they get picked up, and run the herald with the flamers for that sweet Locus, and try and cast the add-extra-units-on-a-2+ spell to buff them up even more. No idea whether it will work or be effective, but it sounds like fun!

So the first session is on February 10th, which means I need to build my flamers and the herald on a disc by then, as well as hopefully some blues - although I could always sub my furies in if I don't get around to them. Exciting times ahead!

Awesome progress dude, great looking crew of geometric death

Also mad props for these fluff pieces, I typically skip over fluff bits in modeling blogs but damn, you are nailing it. Viridescent Slough Epidemic in epistolary form is particularly impressive (and horrifying, and reminds me of Bird Box to some extent, re: visual infection).

Looking forward to some batreps once you get around to some games. As a Tizz daemon player I've bounced between AOS + 40k a couple times, still up in the air which feels better. AOS isn't as good of a game for me (too simple), but Destiny Dice and free summoning both make the experience of playing a Tzeentch army richer than in 40k, where daemons have quite often been bewilderingly straight forward.

Agreed, that bit of fluff really makes the nurglings work, and has got me sold on how you did them now. i do love a bit of inescapable, incomprehensible horror.

All in all, you've done some very inspiring work here, and I hope the campaign goes well!

Great concept, well executed. The colour scheme really makes it work. I also love the crazy daemon cubes of death from back in the day and I think your take on the idea is superb. Thanks for Sharing.

Thanks mate - I can see the Bird Box similarities now that you mention it. All through that movie I was expecting them to show the aliens and to be really disappointed by how they were portrayed - I was actually pretty impressed that they left it up to the viewer's imagination. Don't get away with that very often in film/tv these days. That bit of fluff was actually inspired by a short story I read in a sci fi mag years and years ago. I can't remember the name, or the author, but it was essentially a sci-fi take on the Medusa's gaze - a bunch of delinquent kids had discovered this particular pattern that killed whoever looked at it, and were going around spraying it on all the walls and the cops had to track them down and stamp it out. Really cool stuff.

I'm really looking forward to playing some games, will have to remember to try and take some photos. I don't expect to do very well, but the group seems like a good bunch of dudes - very helpful, and I'm sure I'll learn a lot through the process. Summoning does sound great in AoS, particular at higher points levels when you have more opportunity to rack up those Fate Points. Destiny dice remind me a bit of the Portent mechanic from DnD's Diviner Wizard - one of my players runs one, and subbing the dice seems to come in handy just about every session.

Cheers Cain! I'm honestly very surprised at my pace so far - there's no way I can keep it up once I get back into real life, but I am glad I've got a bit of a head start now.

Thanks turtles! I am still umming and ahhing about the nurglings - even though there's really no need to, as they won't see play in 40k until ~2000 points, and I don't know that I'll ever use them in AoS...

Flinty wrote:Great concept, well executed. The colour scheme really makes it work. I also love the crazy daemon cubes of death from back in the day and I think your take on the idea is superb. Thanks for Sharing.

Thanks Flinty. I've gone back and checked gwaahr's thread five or six times since starting the project - I wish I could see where he's up to with them now. That last teaser pic in particular gives me shivers.

I know I said I wouldn't get any more models done before the move, but last night I finally worked out what to do with the last hexagonal ring - the other 3 are going to be Exalted Flamers, and I wanted to make something with the leftovers that I'd only ever need one of.

I'd thought about making him a herald on a disc for a while as the hex ring fits nicely over a 60mm base, and I'd tried a ton of different set ups - blu tacking on scrabble tiles and small marbles and big marbles and christmas decos in a ton of different combinations, but not really liking any of them. Last night I worked out that I was approaching the problem from the wrong angle - literally. The hex ring with a small marble in the centre looks great when flipped vertically - kind of like a funky Starmie vibe. It's been textured and primed and I'm gonna try and get it finished tonight - I already promised mrs tzurk that the nerd stuff would be packed away last night at the latest...stay tuned for pics 8-)

I really like the painting on the Round one (herald?) with the swirling storm effect against the black middle.

The little bits of fluffy you are writing add some lovely background to the models

Hahaha - my boy is only 3 months, so things might still change, but he has been an angel since Christmas - sleeping through til 7/7.30 every day. Dad is still getting up at 6 to get stuff done - and lately that 'stuff' has included an awful lot of hobbying

I was hoping to get this finished and my modelling stuff all packed up tonight, but I think I've hit a bit of a wall and at least the washes will have to stay out. The disc herald is so much bigger and has way more faces than the models I've worked on so far that I'm a bit lost as to which colours to put where. Do I do the colourshift left to right instead of top to bottom, to avoid the dreaded 'butthole' effect? Do I give each panel its own palette, or ignore the faces and just put colour wherever? Which colours do I use? Can I get away with using them all?

I think I'm gonna have a think about it for a day or two...any ideas that you guys have would be much appreciated!

EDIT: you've probably noticed that patience isn't my strong suit...this is really the last absolutely final no doubt update for a week or two! I promise...
