Agreed. Waiting to see what it's more comon in the black line the troll or the owlbear.

Well their keeping both lines and claim Black requires different tooling so they can't use the same molds so I'd say no.

Keeping both lines for how long? Until the white line is entirely replaced?

On the original announcement facebook page they said they don't plan on remolding many white bone figures into black and they still plan on white for the largest of the large things as it's more affordable.

I don't think it's really worth the cost of the remold for most of the white line. After the first Bones KSer Bryan posted some figures for the costs of their molds:

http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/47575-plastic-injection-molds/&tab=comments#comment-675764

I can believe that a mold *can* cost $250k. But I know that so far we have not had a mold cost over $45,000. I think our cheapest mold was right around $18,000.

They've already been raising prices. Human sized Bones figures are a dollar or two more expensive than they were two years ago.

Going by the owlbear in me grubby mitts - it is a different material.

Harder, better detail, easier to clean off the flash - but there appears to be slightly more flash. And maybe a hair less unbreakable.

Think of it as a competitor for the unpainted minis from WizKids, rather than as a rebranding of the Bones line. (I like both the WizKids owlbear and the Bones Black owlbear. If absolutely forced to choose between two... I would have to give the WizKids owlbear a very, very slightly higher grade. Not even half a star. (WizKids owlbear 4.55 stars. Bones Black... 4.5.)

They really should've used different messaging on the beta site, then, if there aren't going to be any more Owlbears available - it currently implies there is a restock of them coming :(

It's not an LE. These "promo" figures are just an early release until they hit general distribution with Black later in the year.

You were mistaken in the first place.

Bones minis are made in China. Reaper have bought a plastic injection machine with the intention of moving manufacturing to Texas, but so far the one machine is insufficient to fill the demand for Bones (they use their machine to produce their bases- so if you buy bases from Reaper, they're made in Texas).

Reaper's metal miniatures are all cast in their Texas facility (they'll give you a tour if you go to Reapercon).

Reaper has continued to have long term plans to move manufacturing of all their plastics to Texas, but I don't think we've seen a lot of progress on that front (at least not publicly). And with the size of the Bones line, it might take them a very long time before they make that switch.

And a serious capital investment - not to mention either hiring or training professionals to run the machines.

Pretty happy with my owlbear - it is both similar enough, and different enough, to the WizKids Nolzur's owlbear that they can be used together without looking like either completely different creatures or clones.

The Auld Grump - they will also be seeing use in my wife's Forces of Nature army in Kings of War.

I'm from the future. The future of space

I've noticed some bones in stores are already in darker material. Not dark grey or black, but more grey than white. They look better than the white bones, but I don't know if it's just easier to see or if it's actually different.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

They talked about that in the youtube video announcing Black. The dark gray was to make it easier to see detail,

Just to note, the bones black appears to be more susceptible to breaking (would required a lot of effort still) than their original bones material. I think it was stated in a video that they likely will keep both lines with the original bones being a better material for large sculpts. I am still waiting to see how human sized figures in bones black material will be (some of my kickstarter order should contain them).

Thanks for the clarification. I thought I remembered something from around maybe the first bones kickstarter that the plan was to have the initial fulfillment done in China for the Kickstarter pledges and some retail stock and then do restocks in the US. I just assumed after all the years that had happened.

I've noticed the sci-fi ones are in light grey as well.

With all this talk of Bones Black, Bones White and Bones Plaid it's easy to forget Reaper has models coming out in God's own casting medium METAL

The cat folk get some more fleshing out

Reaper also shows they're ahead of the curve with Jade Fire a new line of female orcs!

Because um... you demanded it?

Yeah let's go with that.

They can also serve as half orcs with some minimal conversion.

And um, some wererats. Y'know what would be cool a whole army of wererats with like plague rats and stuff. That would be amazing.

On the Bones White front we get a knight, riding a horse!

OK, yeah, well how about a Gnome Wizard!

He can also pass as a gnome illusionist with some small conversion work.

OK, still kind of meh, I hear you. That's why I saved one for last...

Now first I want to say as a properly woke citizen of the 21st century I am not a fan of Reaper appealing to the lowest common denominator with scantly clad or even nude models being sold for their sex appeal but I think in this case we can all agree it is entirely appropriate.

Spoiler:

The mighty mudgullet!

A bit pricey at $30 but if that's what you need, there ain't too much competition.

In all a bit of a meh month for me. Yeah I'm sure somewhere there's a gaming group exploring a swamp with a female orc barabarian and a gnome wizard whose ship has finally come in, but nothing really calls out to me.

Thanks kid!

That mudgullet, at least in Bones form, was a $10 frogemoth in the recent KS. Glad I got mine! (Not so glad I haven't gotten to painting it.)

$30 seems pretty steep for that, unless it's bigger than it looks.

I can attest to both the size and weight of the Frogemoth.

It ended up a LOT bigger than expected.

...that's what she said.

30 before discounts isn't bad for it.

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!
