The sinking of the Blücher in Kongens nei. So much more tasteful than most modern movie explosions.

Spoiler:

EDIT: And, of course, Bruno Ganz's performance as Hitler in Downfall, even after it became a meme.

Surely appeals more to Norwegian or perhaps also Scandinavian viewers knowing better the situation around it.

But the scene is just imense. Really let's you feel the gravity of the situation. The chilling anticipation. And then the enormous silhouette is suddenly there. And then not overplaying any explosive scenes (arguably they likely couldn't afford much more CGI either but still)

I liked it.

Overdone explosions are so cheesy, especially the ones where they replay the blast from different directions. I get it, it's blowing up XD

The prayer to Crom in Conan the Barbarian was surprisingly awesome (and so was the fight afterward), the musical score is responsible for 92.3% of the awesome in this seen.

The broadside in the otherwise ropey (but ultimately fun) Battleship.

The climactic final battle in Avatar was pretty awesome, with all the natives riding their flying beasts fighting against futuristic helicopters to save their home. Cool music in that scene too.

Pretty much any of the battle scenes in Mad Max Fury Road. Probably the closest we'll ever get to seeing an Ork WAAAGH! on the big screen.

The Darth Vader scene from the end of Rogue One was pretty awesome too. We truly get to see why he is so feared by the Rebels.

And of course, we can't forget "Puny God" from The Avengers. Loki's standing there saying how stupid Hulk is and then Hulk just owns him so hard. Might be my favorite movie moment ever right there!

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000

Y'all are wrong about the best scene in LoTR. In The Two Towers, when Theoden is talking to Gandalf after Theodred's funeral. "No parent should have to bury their child." Like a knife to the heart, no matter how many times I watch it.

Related: Robocop walking through the house, slowly remembering who he was. Also, in Robocop 2: "They built this to honor him. I don't know you."

Now showing The Fellowship of the Ring, along with some Dreadball Captains!

Painting total as of 4/13/2024: 31 plus a set of modular spaceship terrain

Painting total for 2023: 79 plus 28 Battlemechs and a Dragon-Balrog

Star Trek: The Motion Picture. The scene where Scotty flies Kirk to the Enterprise, extended cut. Actually, the whole goddamn movie.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Yeah, whole damn movie.

Star Trek: Insurrection. The scene where Picard confronts Admiral Daugherty over the morality of the relocation of the Baku.

Star Trek: Into Darkness. The whole scene on Nibiru. Also, the ass chewing scene with Spock and Kirk in Pike's office.

I was laughing so hard when Hulk did a Droopy Dog on Loki I missed what was said afterwards... for several minutes. I laughed so hard I cried!

Starwars Episode 2: Yoda is actually a death machine? I laughed my ass off in this scene retrospectively, it's a terrible point in the franchise by transforming Yoda from a wise and pacifist teacher into a standard hero that likes to kill. Yoda should have been a great warrior because he wins fights without really fighting. (but that's just me thow).

The funeral of the murder victims in Mississippi Burning was one of the heaviest and best moment in a heavy and great movie.

The scenes in Forest Gump where his friend Bubba list all the shrimp recepe in knows off and the other one where Gump describe the weather in Vietnam.

The final fight in the sequel of Drunken Master. I don't think any martial art movie ever came close to touch that again even with more modern filming and editing techniques (then again all the stunt work of that movie was amazing).

The ending of the movie Unbreakable. (I found it better then the ending of the Sixth Sense)

In the superhero genre I think Wonder Woman assault on the German trench line is probably the finest "big hero" moment in the genre (honorable mention to the return of Thor in Infinity War).

My favorite of all time is the "prank call" scene in the French movie Le Diner de Con. The entire movie is hilarious and this scene takes the cake. (it does require come cultural context though)

Oh man, not sure how I forgot to mention that one. As a Thor fanatic I absolutely love that scene. You see that flash of light, then Hemsworth's glorious mug, and then the music swells. It's absolute perfection.
