Yes. They flat out said on the Facebook that SM/BA/DA/SW can use them. DW was not included on that list.

I would think the War-Com article that shows an Infiltrator in SW, BA, and DA colors should be a pretty good indication. Especially since those images are likely pulled from the Codex Adeptus Astartes: Vanguard Space Marines.

I imagine SW BA and DA will swiftly be given access to them and within the month death watch will be given a free "vanguard kill team index" that provides death watch rules for vanguard marines

Are you kidding me? Have you looked at the Take Aim? The unit targeted gains re-rolls, and the target of that unit gets zero cover saves. Mind raid can kill characters and give you a CP for doing so.. Curse can stop charges in their tracks. Temporal corridor can give units basically free charges on turn 1.


Even eldar has a version of mind war. So nothing special. The negs yo cover saves don’t matter for things like eldar that can give negative modifiers to hit and have easy accessible invul saves. And curse doesn’t matter for things that won’t be charging anyway, which I would rather shoot you off the board with my superior pointy eard guns.


Then it's a really good thing that eldar are one of like 20 factions you might get to play against in the game.

I'd be concerned if Primaris and Eldar were the only armies that exist on the table top...

Bad example. In competetive play which is all that matters these powers will do jack. You’ll see mostly space marine, orks, and knights with dudes. You will lose. These will not stop that from happening



Orks are completely neutered by the new vanguard marines though, Knights won't be affected, that's true though

So, I'm kinda confused. It looks like these guys will be added to the troops section of SM base chapters. That being said, you will have Scouts, Tacs, Intercessors, and then all three of these new Phobos Bozos. Six troop choices? That can't be right...

My question now is, why are loyalists getting all the infantry, and NO new vehicles. Meanwhile, my friend gets a new spider daemon machine, (Which is the stuff of nightmares and he is not allowed to bring it to my house). Can we please have a new medium tank, or Primaris Predator?

The only Troop unit in the Vanguard are the Infiltrators.

I have just collected and in the process of painting over 2000 points of RG, and now GW releases units and abilities that truly reflect the way I wanted them to play, rendering most of my units...Outdated. Well, take my money, GW, I guess...

I just saw a react video by a unboxing 40k channel, that stated:

GW has stated in interviews that DW will NOT be granted Vangaurd troops.

Has anyone seen where that was referenced?

GK and DW are not able to take Vanguard units in the same way that Thousand Sons and Deathguard cannot take Daemonkin. It's in the mini-dex. Pictures in the main Deathwatch tactica thread.

Don't know if this is mentioned anywhere... but Hallucenation + Culexis makes the ultimate tarpit unit. Hallucenation on the enemy, then Culexis charges in. He forces them to be WS6+, which goes to 7+, they cannot actually hit him unless they have some sort of special rule. Granted you'd have to position carefully so the Culexis isn't within 18" of the Librarian, but these two units could theoretically lock up an enemy unit forever, just keep charging back in when they fall back.

It seems these guys are the first part of Primaris wave 2 and when the rest comes we'll get marine dex 2. But as it stands, as far as I can tell, they have to be taken as a separate detachment, they can't be taken in the same detachment as the rest of your marine army (whichever flavour of marines), as they currently exist in their own mini codex. Or would the keyword adeptus astartes allow them to be taken in the same detachment as the rest of your army?

At this point I expect a primaris codex. Because Every different Adeptus branch gets their own. Adeptus Astartes, Custodes, Phobos, and whatever the latin name of the GK are. That being said, it would make good financial sense for GW, if they are going FULL primaris, to make them their own codex. Adeptus Primaris.
