It's also pretty much a lie because of what Gearbox stated earlier.

It's hilarious how he keeps contradicting official statements though. First he said Gearbox wasn't responsible for moving exclusive to Epic and then just.. straight up doubled down hard on accepting them and being glad he accepted the offer. (May be misremembering what he said on this one though0

Most video game developers don't have unions. It's why they're most hired as contracted and mass laid off at the end of a game.

Job security is actually pretty gakky in the video game industry. I'm no fan of unions mainly because they have just become alternate corporations in a lot of places more concerned with making money than protecting worker's rights, but I consider them a necessary evil. When it comes to the video gaming industry, they fall more into the 'necessary' side right now.

As for the union that's likely being spoken about, that'd be the voice actor one (or guild, as they may call it). That is a big union that have gone on strike a couple of times in the past half decade IIRC.

And while we're on the subject, the dance continues!

PR responded instead of Randy too, we've hit serious matter on that allegation.
Gearbox has responded to our request for comment. It continues to refrain from commenting on the $12 million accusation, which was a reference to a lawsuit from January. It has responded on the physical assault allegations with this statement: "Gearbox takes any and all claims of this nature very seriously and we will abstain from commenting on the allegations Dave is making because it is a personnel matter. We appreciate David’s contributions to the Borderlands franchise and have continued to assert we would welcome him back into the mix as the voice of Claptrap and other future opportunities."

BL3 is likely far enough along that its "safe" even if the CEO has a metldown.

That said the way the allegations are flying back and forth on twitter and the way its suddenly gone from. "I'm not being paid for a role so I'm not doing it" to full on assault and scam claims makes one wonder if the claptrap voice actor is being totally honest or is now digging a knife in and twisting it because he can (and because the CEO so easily blows up even with casual insult let alone heavy ones).

Then again it could all be true and Gearbox might well see legal action taken against them/their CEO which could be a nightmare.

It doesn't help that Randy Pitchfords already been caught in several lies at this point that doesn't help if someone were to come out with an allegation like this. What's worse is that his own contradictory statements have been against Gearbox's own PR team which makes it easy to catch.

Which means we may see Pitchford once again basically push against the PR team on this regard as well because he doesn't seem to be able to pry himself from twitter.

Ayy, that will be a problem for randy, granted i can't say i wouldn't be surprised if the actor is right.

You got shares in Gearbox or something?

The allegations against Randy aren't new.

Shame its Epic exclusive for a while, but waiting is always an option.

As for the drama around it, maybe 'm just unfamiliar with the specifics of US law around a lawsuit, but is there anything prohibiting Gearbox from just issuing a flat out denial regarding all this? It seems strange especially in regards to the 12 million issue that all they're doing is saying "we can't say". It just seems to add fuel to the fire when its already smoking heavily.

Also I can't imagine they aren't trying to kick out or gag Randy. Letting the head of the company/team have such meltdowns in public isn't good for business, why hasn't an adult stepped in...

Sorry for my spelling. I'm not a native speaker and a dyslexic.

So it’s computer system locked for now? I won’t get it til it hits Xbox. It’s on a system I’ve never even heard of until this game. Seems like a piss-poor move by Gearbox.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Actually last news is that they might pull out of Epic Store.

Epic store basically decided to do an early big sale in advance of steams summer sale. They even decided that they'd discount the prices on games, but wouldn't lower the price paid per unit sold to the developer, so they were eating the cost of the sale themselves.

Except Epic decided not to tell the developers they were going to do this and they put on sale loads of games not even released yet. So they devalued the game product in the eyes of the customers before the game was even out yet. A big issue for many developers who are keenly aware if they sell a game at £20 today then tomorrow when its back up to £40 it won't sell because everyone will be waiting for the "sale price" to come again.

So Gearbox pulled Borderlands 3 and other developers have also pulled titles. Now it remains to be seen if they remain pulled or if they come back at the end of the sale (more likely esp since gearbox has already paid huge sums of money for the exclusivity).

It's just another sign of how Epic is just throwing money around at this whole running a game store idea.

Epic is pretty much robber baron capitalism at this point, buy out the ressources off your opponent, altough i doubt that paradox will return to Epic after what they have pulled.

I just recently played BL2 followed by the Pre-Sequel. Throughly enjoyed both and after BL2 it did take some time to get used to the mechanics of the PS, but I actually began to enjoy it more than BL2. I play just solo, so never any online play.

I will never buy a game brand new when they are asking top dollar, so it will be a wait for me and that is fine. I am on the PS4 platform, so there is that consideration. When these games can cost and make more many than a successful Hollywood blockbuster, you better believe the egos and the shenanigans will all come out.
