Good to know I can use a couple spikes and chains to create entirely new face masks, a new leg style, a new cannon type, extra piping, different exhaust ports, and subtle bulging to suggest spikes/mutations attempting to burst out of metal.

There's a lot more to this kit than "spiky Questoris".

In a few years, do you think they'll release a version of the chaos knight with a fused pilot in the cockpit? XD

I would have liked to see more 'daemon engine' elements with flesh fused in, but that is more of a personal thing. These look really good; at initial glance I thought they were just an upgrade sprue but the closer I look the more I see.

Possibly old news, page says 9th May but I haven't seen them on Dakka yet and I only check a few threads. Claw looks like the AdMech knight kit.

Yeah course. I did a quick scan of the FW thread but I don't see them there, thought this is as good a place as any to put them for anyone that hasn't seen them yet (first I've seen of the Armigers at least but like I say I don't read many threads).

Yeah the Rhino spiky bits sprue has a combi-melta and a fancy gunner, it still just makes a spiky Rhino, and this kit still just makes a spiky titan that will be indistinguishable from a regular titan with chaos bits glued to it from two tables away, whilst eating up production resources that could have been used for something new and interesting, like a modern version of one of those ancient Epic chaos titans. It's a major step back to 'loyalists with spikes" for Chaos after finally getting a few original designs in the last edition or two.

But they're supposed to be loyalists with spikes in this case. They're knights that have fallen to chaos, they should have stuff bursting out their carapace and shoulders whilst being a dark mirror of their kin. This kit is exactly that.

I understand your stance on wanting something more... different, in the guise of the chaos knights from epic. There are multiple issues there though which the lord of skulls demonstrates perfectly, since it is one of those redesigned knights.

First and foremost they're daemons or possessed at the very least. In game terms this makes the stupidly good since they get buffed to high heavens by the other chaos books for next to no investment. The other issue is theyre god aligned, so unless you're running an undivided or khorne army, no superheavies for you in the chaos marine codex. Slaanesh subjugators etc would have the same issue.

Seems to me that this Chaos Knight isn't meant to represent a proper Renegade Knight, but a new unit altogether. From the looks of it the Knight's gonna have only 2 CCWs and the cannon thingy, so there's a chance it'll be only as expensive as the Paladin. I hope, for my wallet.

Could have been...blah blah blah.......resources put to better use...blah blah....something more interesting for me.....

Ok love.

I love the look of the new Chaos Knight kits, very cool. Theres a more unkempt, brutal feel to them, exposed pipes on the upper carapac, the spikes/horns bursting through shoulder pads, the murderous looking chain weapon and grisly hanging paraphenalia. Then there are the masks. Those masks!!! So characterful, really love the designs, especially the Judge Death lookalike, I had been planning on doing a convesrion in a similar vein a while ago for a nurgle knight, just never got round to it

Chaos Knight looks great but only has a paladin loadout so far which means it lacks the weapon atop it´s back. I will buy the kit when GW releases a new Imperial Knights Renegades box which includes two Chaos Knights plus weapons for the back. GW, I also need rules for the Chaos Knight for IKR.

I would love it if we could equip a Greater havoc launcher.

That weapon isn't a battlecannon. It looks like a laser destroyer.
Spoiler:

I imagine a battlecannon will be the alternate assembly.

It'll be very disappointing if these Chaos Knights don't have access to carapace weapons. Shocking really.

Personally, 'looks indistinguishable from 8-12 feet away' is not my standard for a kit being similar enough to warrant that criticism... were it even true. Look at the comparable knight kit; the leg structure is totally different, the upper carapace is a different design, the placement of the head is lower, there are a lot of notable distinctions that would be visible from a fair distance. I also wish they had gone further, but objectively speaking this is not the same as the tanks.

They might have access, but I imagine that if they were in the kit they would have been shown in the previews.

In terms of dedicated models, it looks like Traitor Knights are going to be in a similar position to where there Imperial counterparts were a few years back. With one kit that has two builds. Hopefully they will do well enough to warrant the same sort of investment the Imperials have had and we will get more divergence between the two sides in the future.

They said all the previous entries for the renegade knight were still valid with the new codex, so thats something at least.

+1
I think that it would have been really easy to either add a sprue and/or replace the main hull one with a chaos version, rather than changing out the rest which really does look the same.

Haha, that's exactly what I've been thinking for a few days now. I think we're hoping for too much here. After the new-age GW deals in recent years (start collecting) and recent xmas deals like the Titan battle force (of which I bought some) and all the others, I'll be surprised if we get back to the amazing value that was IKR. I think it was buy one Kinght + a scenery piece, get a free Knight (that comes with an additional sprue of weapons!). Will we ever see the like again? I'm not so optimistic but I'll be glad if they surprise me. And I suppose if it happens it'll be sooner rather than later. I'm definitely putting a couple of hundred aside for this possibility.

It is not an outlandish notion as you might think. GW released IKR in the past on two separate occasions. They will do so in the future too because their customers know that single IK boxes are way too expensive to purchase.

While I would have prefered something more chaosy for the
close combat weapon (battle claw, energy whips of old),
the kit looks interesting.

Hope they can have carapace weapon, and that one of the face
masks is Slaanesh Marked.

Overall i am loving the direction they have taken with them
No fleshy corruption, just mecanical goodness
Apparent compatibility with the existing questoris knight (confirmed?)
The las weapon main gun. I always felt knights were, logistically, more suited to energy based weapons.
The chicken legs
The right hand fist
The thigh plates

On the other hand, a few things bother/concern me
The pauldrons and top plate are broardly the same as the the imp version. It would have been nice to have a bit of variety so as to change the silhouette a bit.
The legs seem monopose. Both pics have the same pose and the crotch banner doesn't seem conducive to posability.
There only seems to be a heavy stubber as a point defense weapon. Again both versions shown have the same
And no carapace weapon either, seemingly.

As much as i want one yesterday to mechanicus up, seems prudent to wait and see if they take the same route they did with the imp knight and add a sprue a year or two down the line

I was really hoping for something like the Sentinel where you can really re-arrange the legs into something else, but it's really cool to see a transitional thing between Questoris and the FW type.
