Im really disappointed with those Glaives.

Heck Im not even super impressed with the Terminators themselves. There's some good potential, but idk they fall short. I feel like their side skirts should have wrapped around the back at the very least.

Someone previously said it was joke. (which is admittedly in poor taste, given GW's track record)

8th edition has been out for 2 years now. In jest or not, it seems right that 9th would be announced. After all, we're on two year life cycles now for editions right?

Plus... They just made a bunch of Choas players buy a new codex. It's only fitting that it had the life span of one month.

All the codexes are out... Time to obsolete and re-release. feth you Sisters CA:2018 counts!

That's from last Friday's 8th edition Retrospective video. Given that GW aren't illiterate and remember to capitalise the name of their channel, unlike in that image, I'd say it's fake.

on the forum. Obviously

I wouldn't be surprised if 9th ed was just 8th ed with the CA Approved rules / beta rules integrated. It would be odd if they did away with 8th ed when they released a CA and FAQ for it not too long ago.

But then again, they did release 8th ed books for various factions in whfb, so idk

Other things spotted in the Twitch stream:

These will all be available for purpose next weekend at Warhammer Fest. The new Dreadnought Drop Pod was also on there.

Cute tidbit on the drill: the front can spin.

I'm not a fan of that new titan, mostly because it looks a little oversized in its arm and leg proportions, but I think its the photo angle and real life or in other angles I think it might well look great.

The drill looks freaking fun

Basically forge world stuff (there was some HH stuff, a middle earth character, Mechanicum knights, and Necromunda).

No AT stuff - full-size Knights, 30k, LotR, Blood Bowl & Necromunda.

Not Samurai. The Keshig were the bodyguard of the Mongol Khans. In the context of White Scars, they're the Legionaries who are atoning for some sort of wrong or dishonour and have volunteered for the most dangerous duties.

The event exclusive items concept is terrible IMO. Making and showing off items that are inaccessible to >50% of your customer base is simply bad business.

Not really, the idea is that it encourages people to spend more money going to the event. Of course with the ease of buying and selling online anyone is able to get these anyway, usually at a marked up price, but gw doesn't care about scalpers as that money is eventually making its way to them regardless.

This argument is getting tiresome.

Let's say there are 4000 of us here in the states that want these items.
Let's say 400 people attend the event.
Let's say 40 of those 400 come from the 4000 people in the states.
Let's say these were for sale at 40$ per set.

400 people will buy them. (40 * 400 = 16000$)
40 of the 4000 will buy them. (40 * 40 = 1600$)
3980 people still want to buy them but cannot. (3980 * 40 = 159200$)

16000$ total sales.
1600$ sales from the 40 of us who got to go.

159200$ in LOST SALES due to those who could not attend and will be unable to purchase the product.

Please, put this insane "BuT iT MaHkes Us MoNeYs" crap to bed. It doesn't. It's an outdated sales ploy from decades past that has long outlived its usefulness in the digital age.

Hey, I didn't say I agreed with it, I just said why they do it.

Who does the painting for FW these days? It's not the 'Eavy Metal team. (Was it ever?)
It is consistently sub-par. The terminators themselves are of good quality, but those weapons. Yeeessh. Not good. The metal is patchy, the binding on the hafts is rushed and the blue power nodes are just an afterthought.

No. Forge World's painting has always been in-house. Mind you, a lot of the stuff in White Dwarf and the Codex books isn't by the Eavy Metal team either.

I believe the "army" team for GW aims to copy the Every metal teams scheme, but simplifies it somewhat to a more sane level of detailing and quality for painting whole armies.

I think its also a means by which GW aims for a professional clean appearance to their army models on display which mimics what many can more easily learn to achieve themsevles; rather than showing every model with a world class paint scheme that many gamers can't recreate.

I can wager more average gamers achieve a GW style and level of painting than those who might try to go after something like Infinity's level of detailing on the models which they advertise with - which are in a whole other league.

We've had one edition so far that lasted a whooping 23 months. It's probably best to consider 6th ed 40k an outlier and the three years 7th ed and 1st ed AoS lasted the new standard, until proven otherwise.

9th ed will use the same framework as 8th ed and allow for basic compatibility, but will introduce an edition specific gimmick along with a paradigm shift that will make a new round of codices desirable. That paradigm will last for 6 to 12 months and be replaced halfway through the edition, make all codices from that point on either noticeably more or less powerful than the previous ones in that edition.

A new rules framework will only make an appearance after one of two things happened: GW hires new design staff that wants to make their own mark and ditch the previous design team's or lead's framework, or the design staff piles on so much gak over a couple of editions that the game is no longer salvageable and needs to be rebooted.
