Well, by the time a Coldstar can get to my Lootas (after all the Grots bubblewrapping it are gone), they've, hopefully, already done their job. And even if they haven't, the Coldstar just saved them from getting nailed by whatever shot out the Grots. So... thanks? Only other shooting option worth it's time using the pseudo-charge is the SSAG, and that boy can be a tough cookie for a Coldstar to take out in CC. Of course, if I'm really in a bind and need to shoot with either one, Da Jump can get them out without burning a Fallback.

He can do it turn 1 so.. you’re lootas do nothing. And if he wants to shoot at the lootas he just disengages the Coldstar.. and boom lootas die. So.. thanks?

How's he gonna get to my Loota on T1 when it's bubble wrapped by 60-90 Gretchin and 80% of Tau guns only get one shot outside of 18"? Coldstar ain't killing all those Gretchin by itself. Like... do you think people deploy Lootas and just leave them out in the open and vulnerable to charging and getting shot?

move 40 inches. Blast hole.. and there will be a hole with tau shooting. Shoot with commander. Move 6”. If he can’t get to them with 46” movement then idk what kinda table you’re playing on. He can jump over models. Fly keyword. Auto lose cause orks. Thanks.

He can. Good thing I can choose how to remove my Grot models when they're slain. So I can keep the Grots closest to my Lootas and get rid of the ones furthest away. To ensure a hole the Coldstar can fit into exists, I hope you're ready to devote a minimum of 100 shots into that Grot bubblewrap. Cuz if I see what you're trying to do, I'm pulling from the edges and forcing you to devote more and more of your army to tying a single Loota squad into CC with your Coldstar. All to have me use "Da Jump" to take them out of CC on my Psyker Phase so I can use "Moar Dakka" and make that whole endeavor a waste of your time. And your Coldstar cuz he will 100% be the target of that shooting.

Honestly fine. You’re orks. You’ll lose even if I only targeted grots purposely.

A fact doesn’t help me sleep at night. Your book has been and always will be the punching bag GW makes it to be. Now back on topic, we can easily make sure we have the opponent play to the fear of it happening. Sort of like the psychological effect of Vect. It’ll be nice to watch the players not know what to expect or how to deal with it.

You alright there, pal? This seems like a little more than just playful ribbing and competition. Been here awhile and this is the first time I've seen someone just flame a whole Faction unprovoked. Might wanna consider taking a step back and remembering that everyone here is just trying to enjoy a game and world together. No one here is your enemy, buddy.

Can we get back to the topic at hand please?

Sorry about that, boss.

On topic: barring an FAQ or houserule changing how this works (which I kinda doubt won't happen), I don't think it's gonna change how people play much. In the end, you're bringing a unit that really isn't that good at CC into CC. A unit that is kinda expensive AND that you put a Relic on. I kinda think the value of doing so is gonna be limited, and comparing it to Vect is incredibly hyperbolic. The latter is just FAR more versatile and threatening. Best case scenario, you make your opponent bubblewrap a little more tightly against you, and (again) since Tau aren't exactly great at CC, that's not really gonna hurt them like it would against some other armies.

I doubt it’ll get an FAQ. It isn’t game breaking. Also, comparing it to vect isn’t hyperbole. Many reasons it doesn’t matter he isn’t good at cc. Tie something up from shooting. Nice tank, nice big block of lootas, nice artillary etc etc. (he isn’t expensive st all, trust me, and you’d be taking the relic for the Swiss Army knife type of utility so.. yeah) and now it loses a turn of shooting and also can’t kill him. If it doesn’t fall back, he can. For 20”. Is it AS strong as vect? No. But it’s extremely short sighted and narrow minded to think it can’t be used appropriately or a diversion tactic.

I mean, Mobbed Lootas weren't really game-breaking either (Imp Soup and Flyer Spam were still dominating tournaments), but here we are.

The thing is, he's expensive for what you're doing with him. I don't have the Tau Codex, but if I recall correctly he's a little over a hundred points. With the Relic you're either spending CP or he's your Warlord. And you're using him as a suicide denial unit. Cuz, if you move 46" into your opponent's deployment zone, he's not gonna survive your opponent's turn. He just ain't that durable and you gave away your character protection by moving him away from all his pals.

In the end, it's gonna be a situational strategy at best and a suicide run the rest of the time.

You realize competetive tau lists sometimes use 2-3 Coldstar commanders AS suicide units right? Fly in, kill, more than likely die? This just adds one extra layer to their tool kit. Fly in, kill something worth triple or more their points cause strong guns and amazing BS, Brie a unit up from shooting for a turn. It’s legit a win win

I can see that working out for ya against vehicle heavy lists. I still feel like it'll be situational. But it seems you agree, since you said it's "giving them an extra layer" to your toolkit and that it wasn't busted. So, I'll leave it there, before we go off-topic again.
