I dunno man. Rebooting a franchise that's been gone for 15 years or something is almost always a bad idea. The longer ago it is the worse it can get.

I do like the matrix but I saw it so long ago I can't really judge it by my adult current age how good it is. I actually thought it was interesting except if you really dug into the idea of the humans as batteries idea. They'd certainly give energizer and duracell a run for their money though ;P.

Thought it was overrated claptrap back in the day but it had some really great moments - the burly brawl, war-suit thingys, the highway chase and Hugo Weaving just having a great time. The music was pretty damn good at times.

Its not as clever as it thinks it is, but it was a lot of fun when it lets its hair down, and for that count me in!

Casual gaming, mostly solo-coop these days.

The fight choreography in those films was excellent. Even the sequels.

Yeah Neo VS Morph in the original was pretty darn trippy first time seeing it.

Yeah the fight scenes in the first movie were some of the best done at the time in Hollywood and still hold up very well, I think it was down to them training the actors to do the majority of the fighting themselves rather than trying to disguise stuntman as the actors.

Also blending real martial arts in with the whole super hero punching through concrete gave it a different feel to previous attempts at super heroish fights.

Your last point is especially laughable and comical, because not only the 7th ed Valkyrie shown dumber things (like being able to throw the troopers without parachutes out of its hatches, no harm done) - Irbis

I remember trecking for nearly 2 hours to see the original as a teen after seeing a snip of the film on Channel 4 news as they were crying about the long trench coats were similar to those worn by school shooters. They showed a minute or so of the lobby shootout (To try and persuade people from avoiding such filth!) and when I saw those pillars disintegrate under a barrage of bullets I knew I had to see it. (Thanks channel 4 news!)

That first film blew me away. I absolutely loved it, like... everything about it. I must have gone to see it more than a dozen times at the cinema. It remains one of my favourite films to this day and nothing has topped that cinema experience since.

I also love the Animatrix and was interested to learn that the Wachowskis had originally planned for films 2 and 3 to be what eventually became the fantastic shorts 'The Second Renaissance Parts 1 and 2'. However, the studio stepped in and insisted they continue the plot of Neo, Trinity and Morpheus because the film had become such a monster hit.

Like most, I found Reloaded and Revolutions to be disappointing (Although I'm not sure anything could have matched my level of hype for them), they are still filled with some great ideas, amazing action and set pieces.

I for one am super happy about this news. The Animatrix showed that this could easily become an expanded universe if handled correctly and Lana was/is the driving force and more creative of the siblings. I'm so curious how they will approach this film as there is endless ways they could go.

I didn't know that, but it explains SO MUCH.

I honestly don't know what kind of mental gymnastics it's going to take to make it plausible for Neo and Trinity to even be alive, let alone aged, but I know this is going to basically be Terminator 3 levels of bad.

It takes very little mental gymnastics really considering alive is subjective in a setting where a big chunk of the movie is potentially in a simulation that is controlled by one of the protagonists.

Off the top of my head:
The machines recreate Neo and Trinity to run the matrix for them.
The machines recreate Trinity and Neo as figurehead leaders for them.
The machines recreate Neo and Trinity to lead/support the humans.
An unauthorised Cold War between machines and humans is taking place in the matrix, the machine faction resurrects Neo to lead them and the humans find away to resurrect Trinity to lead them.
Neo wakes up some unspecified time in the future in the Matrix gak still not sorted so he resurrects Trinity and sorts it.
Neo wakes up some unspecified time in the future the Humans and machines are living in harmony something is wrong with Neo he resurrects Trinity and goes ape gak and is now the bad guy.

That’s a couple of minutes and while there not all great coming up with away to bring them back is not an issue.

Wouldn't be hard at all... It would be cool if it was the new story of the next anomaly (The one) waking up (With Trinity taking Morpheus place) and the new agents took the form of Keanu... we find out that Smith was a digital recreation of the one that came before Neo.

That’s an interesting idea; lends an almost tragic tone to the previous films.

When there is literally no spoon, bringing them back is barely worth discussion, other than to try and narrow down the bajillion possibilities.

What I desperately hope they don't do is try and maintain the continuity and use any sort of digital de-ageing, unless it's done as a conscious real life presence Vs Matrix avatar thing.
