Magnetize banners that you remove during the enemy shooting phase if they mess with LoS.

I like(d) the sculpted banners. Paper ones no.

Consider; Games Workshop rules not so much games but as toolboxes for players to craft an experience from, and open/narrative/matched play just examples of how things can be put together.

A Tyranid banner could be... interesting? Not GSC, the main swarm itself.

Right! Nids, of course!
You could always count Spore Mines as little living banners....now I'm picturing Spore Mines with little banners

Meanwhile I'm envisioning colorful neck frills & wildly colored individuals within broods (imagine a Baboons rear end - but as a whole gaunt).

Not a banner, but he certainly loves waving it around like one

Or you can just keep buying chaos everything, and not play them. Just sit alone in your room for years, painting and detailing, and detailing some more. Then keep doing that for years until you own upwards of 10000 points of chaos. Keep shining their swords and sharpening their knives. Then some day, some wonderful day, when a new book comes out that will realize your armies' potential, come out from hiding. Everyone will have thought you had left warhammer 40k for good, but no, you had been training, preparing, and brooding for this moment. Return with such vengeance and hatred that you will not hold back, and you will destroy everything in your path. Like a true chaos crusade, wait for the right moment, then burst forth from the Eye of Terror and unleash your pain on the whole universe. And when they cry and complain that you are OP and that it's not fair. Reassure them that it's true. It isn't fair, but it's what they DESERVE. All of them, each and every one of them deserve to be obliterated into oblivion. And if they ask you to play with a fluffy army, tell them you will do so. But on game day bring the meanest nastiest, ugliest army you can. Give them no opportunity for victory, give them no opportunity for enjoyment. Your only goal is to inflict as much pain and suffering as possible. And when they cry, and they will cry, laugh at them, drink their salty tears, and bath in their sweet, sweet blood.

I love banners, but they are a bit of a disadvantage now in modern 40k since a unit can take a massive hit "right in the heraldry". I modeled a bunch of my Tactical Marines' sergeants with back banners when I was building up a Battle Company of Dark Angels, but then the edition changed and I never got around to painting them.

I think banners on characters are cool and thematic and really bring home the "medieval fantasy but in SPACE" theme of 40k. If I can get my freehand skills up to par I hope to eventually paint some elaborate banners on stuff.

The people I play with use main bodies for LOS, not banners and poky bits. I like the way kill team arena requires you to draw line of sight to the base.

I often play in tournaments, which by definition means a lot of WAAC stuff happens. In casual play it's usually not an issue though, as you say.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/22/19, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~13000 | Space Marines (Blood Ravens and others): ~1300 | Space Wolves: ~3400
Astra Militarum: ~500 | Officio Assassinorum: ~500 | Imperial Knights: ~800 | Sisters of Battle: ~200
Tau Empire: ~6600 | Chaos Space Marines (various legions): ~2900 | Death Guard: ~2800 | Chaos Daemons (all types): ~1900
Check out my P&M Blogs: ZergSmasher's P&M Blog | Imperial Knights blog | Total models painted in 2019: 62 | Total models painted in 2020: 5 | Current main painting project: Sisters of Battle

I used to build those until I discovered how they would always break during transport, so instead I put those banners on bases and now I got cool markers/objective tokens!!
Different color for each banner, though I think if I could paint some nice gothic style 1, 2, 3... to identify the banners it would be even better!

Maybe... Maybe the real banners where the friends we made along the way.

His pattern of returning alive after being declared dead occurred often enough during Cain's career that the Munitorum made a special ruling that Ciaphas Cain is to never be considered dead, despite evidence to the contrary.

I really like to put banners on my marines. I'm working on a little Kill Team where everyone will be getting a back banner of some sort. After all, it's all about looking flashy and cool.
