I have not been in the painting mood recently. Sat down for about an hour last weekend and spent the entire time going "Man I would just rather be playing video games right now." So I went and did that instead. I have a video game backlog as well to think about besides just my miniature backlog after all!

Anyway, I painted Moot Green Sept markings. Next time I sit down hopefully I feel more up to detail work and I can start painting the visible troopers/pilots on the vehicles so I can get these suckers finished.

Sometimes the hobby mojo just isn’t with you. In those cases it’s probably best to cut the session short, it’s meant to be enjoyable after-all! That green and purple looks aces though!

Well I finished up those Tau models last weekend. I'm hopefully going to be stripping the paint from some hammerheads this weekend if I can find somewhere with the stuff my friend recommended to me in stock. Otherwise, that is an after Christmas project (and may be anyway based on the weather for priming)

I've got a single Sniper Drone (from an eBay purchase) that I need to paint once I figure out its color match so it can match the rest of its squad. The Orange I am 90% sure is fire dragon bright. but we can't figure out if the Blue is Vallejo Prussian Blue (which I don't own) or just their standard Vallejo "Dark Blue" (Which I do own).

then I have a box of Kroot that needs examining and possibly some fixing with glue and maybe stripping/priming depending on how they fared in the storage box and a Tidewall set that will need repairing and painting (but no priming hopefully). As well as a Commander that needs to get magnetized and glued back together so I can finally paint him (he also was already primed). and that not counting the several boxes of models that haven't been built or primed yet. It's really encouraging that I have pretty much no grey plastic or primed plastic models yet though and am very close to being able to claim my backlog is entirely NIB though.

So not a lot of work getting done during the holidays. But as a small update. I painted up that drone but the Blue still wasn't exactly right. Other than that I stripped the paint off some ebay Hammerheads and got out my Tidewall to start working on.

Alright back in for the new year. Hopefully, I will be able to keep up my minimum of 1 night a week of painting, and if I'm lucky I will be able to increase that for some faster paint progress. Last weekend I managed to get a whole 5 hours of painting done over a couple of days. I even pulled out my Wet Palette for the first time in a while to try and encourage going down sometime this week before work. I got the base and first highlight of purple done on the terrain. The next step is the green segments and to figure out what is staying black and what is going to be painted gray. I'm also debating painting some kind of blue glow effect on the railgun coils. I don't want it to look too much like plasma though, which is probably what will happen. Thoughts?

I reckon to give the blue a go. It’s all space magic, so why not blue glowing rail guns? A nice bright green could work too

That's a good argument lol. I will give it a shot when I get to that detail phase.

Managed to sit down for a little bit last weekend and slapped the green on. Just need to touch up the black and then probably panel line a little bit to give some shadows there.

So life has been getting in the way of painting recently. Hopefully, I can sort of get back into the groove soon. For now last weekend I finished up painting my fortifications, all I really had left to do was clean up the black and panel line the purple with some wash. So the differences between these photos and my last ones are negligible. Next time I sit down I will try and paint some blue glow on the railgun then these are done.

All done with the tidewall. Not sure what is next. If the Kroot are in good shape I may get started on them, but if they need to be primed again or stripped then I may work on a different project. I'm also going to start gathering the last materials I need to get my airbrush up and running hopefully next month. So that should be a fun project.

I'm really proud of how the railgun came out. Oh I also put snow on the base of these kroot hounds I got off ebay. They were already painted, and I didn't see any reason to give myself extra work by stripping and repainting them.

Looking good Balmong, especially the rail gun. The blue works well imho. I wonder if the panel lining on the purple could be a bit more stark? Good choice on just adding snow to the kroot hound bases

Yeah, I used the purple wash on the panel lines but it didn't really seem to darken very much. Not sure why.

I struggle with coloured washes, I tend to use them to tint metallics. Nuln Oil or Agrax Earthshade tend to be my default for most colours

So I am taking a small break from painting to deal with another of my long-standing pet peeves. Citadel paint pots. In my infinite wisdom I ordered 100 dropper bottles to transfer all my citadel paints into. This was a great idea. Except for the fact that bottles are 17mL and contrasts and washes are in 18mL and 24mL pots. So I may need to figure something else out there. and then I'll have a good 25 leftover dropper bottles for the future I guess. lol

Whilst it takes a while to do, it’s well worth the effort. Make sure you stick an agitator ball in there and a bit of flow improver too if you gave any.

GW seem to do short measures so you’ll probably get the contrast in the 17ml bottles. I didn’t bother with washes as I don’t thin them or use a palette with them

Between running out thinning medium for transferring the paints to dropper bottles, and side effects from my first shot of the Covid vaccine. I wasn't able to get much done on my off days. But I did repair some damaged kroot models, and magnetized my commander model and some crisis suit weapons. Still trying to figure out what the best strategy is for where to place the magnets.

Still working on transferring paint pots. I only have five pots left. So hopefully this weekend I can get back to clearing items off my backlog

I'm back! Took some time off from painting due to some personal stuff. But I am back and I have a new desk and paint set up that hopefully helps me get some better results since I'm not trapped in the freezing cold basement anymore.

and like all smart humans. I decided to jump back in with a wonderful assembly line of my ebay rescue kroot. I don't know what I was thinking lol.

Ooh I don’t envy you batch painting those! I used the Midwinter Minis speed paint guide for my Blackstone Fortress kroot. It works pretty well and is FAST!

I have finished the Kroot! I was going to do some additional highlighting, but like, I just can't bring myself to commit to that level of effort for grunts. lol

Now onto my commander.

Those wintery kroot look brilliant mate! Great job to smash them all out in one batch - it's a painful process while it's happening but how good does it feel that they're finished!

Excited to see the commander come up too. Really love the purple/green scheme, and think its loudness will be a nice contrast on the table to the muted/natural kroot.

Great work mate, keep it up and thanks for sharing!

Cool horde of Kroot, they look good on their winter bases. Nice one

Man I forgot how quickly a single model can be knocked out when I spent a month trying to assembly 40 Kroot. Just gotta throw a wash on the base and put some snow on it, as well as a few small touch-ups and spots i missed on the main model then it's done.

I finished up the commander last weekend, and then I finally took the plunge and put some paint in my airbrush. I grabbed as many unprimed models as I had within reach and started spraying until I accidentally clogged up the nozzel and could spray no more. So I guess I need to watch some airbrush tutorial videos so that I don't do that again. lol. But man it's so nice to finally have the airbrush going.

Been a while since I updated. I got busy, had to do some travel for job interviews and now I am gonna have to do more to look at places to move (yay) so my hobby time took a bit of a hit. Got some more experience with my airbrush and threw down the first base layer. I usually do the GW "layer up" method. and I can't decide if I want to use my airbrush to do that on the tanks or not because then all the recesses will fill with my highlight color whereas if I brush paint it, those recesses won't fill up (if I don't mess up water down my paint too much or something).
