Second squad shaping up well!

Thanks Don. Work has made this squad's progress a good deal slower.

Please forgive the picture quality. I was in a bit of a rush to get some photos taken before I had to quit for the day. Most of today's time was spent scouring my bits boxes for necessary components. Arms are attached for each Thunder Warrior and the proto-bolters for each one are nearly complete. Enough heads for this batch have been cleaned up and had their plumes attached. I still need to attach some necks for these guys. Progress is slow, but it's moving along.

This is a really cool project! I'm a huge fan of the Thunder Warrior lore, and kinda hopeful that GW does something with it at some point, miniatures-wise.

I'm not sure if I like those huge muzzle brakes on your bolters, but otherwise excellent models! I'm in awe of your sculpting skills!

Thank you! I would love it if GW started a Unification Wars line. So much to explore there. I know what you’re saying with the bolters. That’s my biggest hang up with these guys right now. I’m just not sure where to go with them.

The project progresses. Very slowly, but progress nonetheless. I’ve finished the modeling process and now it’s time for cleanup before I toss some paint on to them.

Great production rate on these chaps - you really are convincing me that GW should do a Thunderwarrior kit

Thanks for sharing

Thanks IGtR! I’m really hoping for a Unification Wars expansion from GW.

All cleaned and primed. I’ll leave them to dry for a bit, then on to blocking in colors.

Slow work lately. I’ve been trying to sneak in some time on these guys as much as I can. Still early in the process, but they’re coming along.

Still working on these guys. They're almost there. This batch will bring the total up to 12. There's still a good deal of work left on them, but they're starting to fit in a bit more. I also pulled a MK IV Marine out and an Intercessor for a size comparison. They're definitely beefier than I thought they'd be. I expected them to still be smaller than a Primaris.

These look awesome, I think you've done a great job capturing the theme, very distinctive.

I'm not surprised that they're that much bigger. I always imagined them quite sizeable, just not as sizeable as, say, Custodes. Which I think you've captured quite well in your build. You could consider using Custodes rules to field them too, btw. Sagitarrum Guard are FW Custodes armed with only guns, they'd fit your guys to a T.

Thank you! It's time consuming, but I like how they're turning out.

I've got some unbuilt Custodes somewhere that I could put together to compare sizes there. I don't actually play 40k very often. I barely have time to put these guys together, but this is my favorite part of the hobby anyways. If I ever had enough of these guys to put into a game, I was planning on going with Custodes rules. Their model count is small enough and they're the closest thing in 40k to Thunder Warriors in my opinion. Or rather, Thunder Warriors are closer to Custodes than Astartes. I'll have to get my hands on a Custodes codex to look through their unit types.

Once these guys are finished up, I think I'm going to try a different unit type next. This is what I've come up with so far:

- Grenadiers. 3 man unit armed with dedicated grenade launchers.
- Heavy weapons teams. 2 man teams toting around large, crew served weapons. Even considered large for Thunder Warriors.
- Special weapons teams. 3 man teams armed with volatile Dark Age technology.
- Trench/Siege/Breacher squad. Armed with melee weapons, shields, explosives, and shotguns.
- Troop transport. Big. Ugly. Lots of guns.
- The ghost of all murders. Regimental Primarch.

What other unit types do you guys think the Thunder Warriors would have?
