Progress!
Its funny how work on a mear tiny piece of terrain absolutely clogged up the entire free flat surface for 3 m in all directions.

2 - I was hunting for cool DE shapes, more angular and minimal offset shapes, think of Sith.
And got great idea to use piece of plastic cocktail stick for an "glow" inset

3 - Making use of collected trash, cheepo dollarstore krazy glue empty containers and caps.
Glued, cut at an angle with a backyard band-saw, spray painted everything with whatever spray can was in the shop.

4 - Sculpted the (Slave) guy from DoW just good enough to look ok-ish. Decided to swap the head, this one was already painted
and just fit better.
I relied on deformed and tortured body shape and the paint contrast to deliver
overall look and feel, because the sculpt is very quick and dirty.

5 - Spray caned foam pieces after a single coat of polyurethane, water based of course, found old jar of it in the shop, why not.

6 - Old test piece of colored sand and Mod-poge + some sort of egg half thing + foam structure + blade containers.
Before this step I was not very exited about the terrain and had no idea where it was going.

7 - The containers are not Xacto! But cheep 1dollar off brand. Super glued them together, and filled areas I needed flat with DaZ Air dry clay.
I used a bit of super glue on the clay after it dried, to make sire it wont flake out.

8 - Dry brushed the pieces, and on the back of the containers I drilled a row of holes through the joints, and worked JBWeld on both sides and through the drilled holes,
So JBWeld is holding from both sides, and is filling the holes in between the pieces, because initial super glue just would not hold the plastic containers together.
Even this, is a "poor" joint, hopefully it will serve long enough

9 - Use my colored sand to have uniform look with my DE https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/30/760381.page
And dry brushing the egg half turned out SUPER COOL! I had no idea it will look this good.

Getting closer to finished piece, maybe one more full day over a week.

@Mothsniper: I really like what you did with that dome. And I agree, projects and their bits have a tendency to spread out and fill the entirety of a crafting surface.

Thanks mate!
I still remember that cool little table with cards and beer!
Are you joining us this round?

Everyone.

Just a reminder that the contest deadline in approaching.

Final Entry: Select six of your photos for the final entry, showing top, front, both sides, back and all the important parts - not to be posted in this thread. You can send more if you like, I just want up to six flagged for the Dakka poll. PM me with links to your galleries, albums, photos, etc. Together with your photos, I would like a statement of the items (a photo would be ideal) that you used. This is not a must, but would be helpful. Feel free to include some fluff or an explanation of the model/setting to allow the rest of us to fully appreciate your work. As previously noted: if you want to add some figures for scale purposes to one of your photos feel free, they are worth no points in the judging.

If you have to drop out for any reason, just send a PM or post on the thread. Just so we am not waiting for your submission for a week after the closing bell. There is no shame in withdrawing...real life happens and is more important.

Sincerely,

CB

PS: One entry already received.

Not I. I'm going to shoot for magnets, roofs, railings, and maybe LEDs over the next few nights... hopefully finish this weekend with time to photograph.

Wow that's really flattering that you remember that. I am very happy with how that piece turned out. I love these LoER terrain contests, but I'm living abroad right now a hemisphere away from all my crafting supplies. There's no room in these tiny Hong Kong apartments to fit crafting materials. I can barely fit my sculptures. I tried joining these contests once since moving, but it's too difficult having to buy every little material I need, walk to the beach for flocking with sand, borrow someone's glue, borrow paint. And there are no brushes small enough. It mostly leads to frustration and a piece that I'm not very happy with if I try. Once I'm back home, I will definitely be joining these contests again.

Ah excuses!

Makes sense, sculptures are fine, but the terrain just takes too much space!
Well can't wait till you are back home then! Safe travels when the times comes.

Pretty sure I'm going to have to drop out I'm afraid, unless I manage to create a tiny piece at the last minute. Hobby time seemed to disappear recently, plus some rl issues cropped up and there's no way I'm going to get anywhere with my project.

Sorry to hear that, monkeytroll. This month has seen too much crap stuff and not anywhere near enough hobby time for me, too.

Keep your head up. Hope your issues get some resolution soon.

Everyone is feeling the squeeze... politics, COVID, back-to-school(?), etc. We definitely don't need any extra pressure from our hobbies. Hang in there, y'all!

That said, I think I'm going to have to hustle to get this thing over the line. I've given up on the monthly painting contest and I'm giving this entry everything I've got. The whole thing is assembled, the electrical is done, and it's painted except for a few touch-ups. I just need to build and paint a quick med-servitor and I'll be there!

Results of the Public Opinion poll has decided MacPhail is the Peoples Champion.

As for my pick for the winner, using the scoring scheme listed on the first post, it was much closer than the public poll would have it.

MacPhail was the winner LoER Terrain Contest Round 32 and newest inductee into the League of Extraordinary Riveters with 93 points. The little details in the medical building were fantastic and pushed it over the top. While there was a large use of GW bits from a lot of different places, these were all brought together in a common theme (although there was nothing common about all the little details added in) of medical station on the frontier, complete with what is needed in a good Imperial hospital (holy scripture to help the medical robot carry out it's duties). The lighting was also a bonus.

First runner up was Mothsniper (and a very close runner up I might add) with 91 points. His entry really pushed the materials envelope, using scrap and things that would normally be tossed to make a really cool looking Soul Harvester. My daughter pointed out the painting of the cage lighting as particularly neat.

DJJazzyJeff, you really pushed for a gran terrain piece, however it did look like you just ran out of time to get it all together. There were many good pieces and you have a great board to play on, not just a single piece of terrain.

416_SpaceWolves, a good start and nice to see you branching out with water effects and an impressive use of duct tape to create some mud and a canvas tent covering.

Anyone who wants their individual scores, send me a PM and I will send it to you. Although my critiques are a bit

Well done and congratulations to all of you who reached the finals by finishing your terrain!

Congratulations, MacPhail! And to all of us. For me, just finishing something at all seemed an accomplishment in itself this month.

Mothsniper, the winner of the round decides the theme of the next round. We'll have to see what MacPhail comes up with!

Many, many thanks to everyone... if it weren't for the motivation and interaction I get from the Dakka community my hobbying would be far short of where it is. This was a challenging theme and project and I definitely pushed my own limits a bit; I'm pleased and honored that so many gave it a nod.

And I'll get right on the sequel! I may take a look back in the annals of LoER history for guidance and inspiration...

Thanks especially to Captain Brown for another excellent round!
