The next trooper is ready for the hunt. She's equipped with a pulse rifle and some extra cockiness. Somehow, she reminds me of Sarah Connor (the Terminator version, not the singer ).
Some more are built, but are waiting to be painted. Also, I'm trying a fitting vehicle.

Max, always nice to check out your painting and modelling threads. Every model has been scratch built or converted so your army has no twins and triplets.
Gwyn chan 'r Gwyll wrote:Yeah I can see Sarah Connor in the glasses and the haircut for sure.
Yes, must be the glasses and the hair. The rest probably has more terminator influence.
youwashock wrote:Shoot, how did I miss Hunter-gal? She rocks! That xenomorph creepin' on her may have bitten off more than he can chew. Even with two mouths.
Guess her cloaking device was activated.

Thanks! That's what I like doing lately, mostly unique individuals. *secretly takes out the notepad for modelling ideas and adds 'twins'*

When exploring space colonies and giant starships an adequate vehicle saves time, offers protection and provides additional fire power as well as stowage. The infamous M577 APC from Aliens seemed to be the obvious choice for my alienhunters. It would have to be converted somewhat of course to fit in. A little less Aliens and a little more Predator if that makes sense.
A quick scan of the miniature market and the models proper in the right scale (Prodos, Halycon) turned out to be about a hundred bucks or more here. Too much for me considering I would most likely ruin them. Would also be a waste of the models, which are both out of print. Lacking a 3d printer, good ol’ scratchbuilding it was.
Short version: Here it is. Long version: see spoiler.
Spoiler:
Searching the web for measurements and construction plans of the M577 I found very good papercraft plans (by Jan Rükr). Papercraft… my old nemesis. In the beginning my papercraft things always look nice, promising and clean, but the more parts I add, the more the distorting, mutating forces of chaos manifest themselves in my ‘creation’. Although it’s not a true creation, because just like Morgoth I do not create, I turn beauty into abomination while accursed flutes whine monotonously next door… Anyway, it still seemed to be the best option for the APC.
As expected I managed to mess up the scaling of the first parts already and decided that following construction plans is not for me. Made the thing a little wider and turned the 4x4 into a 6x6 in the second try. I put PVA glue soaked cardboard onto the paper to make it sturdy and it works, it really can take a beating now. Well, it would not survive me stepping on it, but neither would a GW rhino (which is just one reason why I do not step on models).
The original turret turned out to look rather small, so I scaled it up and out of a sudden had two. In Aliens you can see the turret can be moved along rails and be stored behind the back of the APC to reduce its height in order to load it into the drop ship or to pass low bridges and doors. I built a flat sleigh with four magnets and added wire rails on the apc. The sleigh can be moved along the rails and it also got a screw while the two turrets got a nut each, so they can rotate and be easily switched.
As axes I used three nails and three butchered pens so they can rotate.
The wheels are toy wheels I copied with oyumaru and added cardboard panels. Finally, I glued on lots of plastic parts out of my assorted-thrash-I-might-use-one-day-bin wherever I saw fit, mainly from food packages and the carcasses of the three pens. Also added a few bits of a converted rhino and yelled at people.
Priming was the best part of the project. It also instantly stopped the weird sushi smell.
Me thinks: Doesn't look so mush, when it rumbles through the bush. Well, it’s quite literally thrash (90% thrash, 10% glue, putty, skin and bits) and so I named it ‘Scrapper’. Scrapper has obvious flaws, but I like the general style and I think it fits very well with the girls. The scale of the vehicle (as well as the scale of the girls) is about 1:45. It is significantly longer than a GW rhino, but I’m confident you could actually fit about 10 passengers and 2 crew inside.
(the small turret on top and stowed)
In-universe Scrapper, the apc, was built from scratch using salvaged hi-tech scrap. It is 7.9 m long, 3.8 m wide and 2.6 m high (with stowed turret). Due to its lightweight construction the combat weight is a mere 13.000 kg. It’s armed with an EM shield generator (the bump in the middle), a smoke/chaff/decoy flare dispenser, a pair of rotary cannons in the forward cupola on the starboard side, two smart missile launchers and can be equipped with either a larger turret with a pair of mighty plasma cannons or a smaller turret with a pair of twin laser cannon. The turret can be stowed at the rear of the vehicle to reduce its overall height. The power source of Scrapper is a mini fusion plant.
Think I am continuing with the troopers now, maybe someday I am in the mood for another vehicle. A properly scaled dropship would be a project too big for me, but I think I could add an armoured scout car in the future, something like a lovechild of a ferret (the car not the ADD pet) and Batman’s tumbler or maybe finally build some proper space colony terrain from thrash.
Thanks for looking. Constructive criticism – as always – welcome.
Holy freaking cow! You literally built the Aliens APC whilst eating cookies- the fething turret even redeploys to the rear of the vehicle like it should and it looks like it was the 100 euro kit you found online! My hat is off to you, sir!
This was the weapon system I wanted for my Athena build (Hanomag conversion) and couldn't manage. Now I have to try another one to see what happens.
I don't know what these flaws are you mention, because I don't see them. Criminey- even the WIP shots when you can still read the cookie packet look like factory production stages during the assembly process. The scale in relation to the squad is spot on and the camo scheme is perfect.
Great balls of fire, I am now inspired to go and eat tea biscuits and cookies (several varieties, until inspiration really sets in) until I can build something like this!
More seriously; Really well done.

Thanks! Much appreciated.

Thank you! Wishing you fun with the cookies What I used were not cookie packages though, it was the cardboard package of a fish filet meal and of salt for a dish washer. I did not consume either of these items, but since I lacked proper cardboard, I aquired them from community thrashcan for paper at night much like a racoon would.

Thank you, Captain!

Brilliant stuff now while a dropship might be too big a 10 man drop shuttle wouldn't be that much bigger would it?
"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

Yeah, that stuff is simply amazing. It also repels mosquitoes AND is available in seven different scents. What is bikini wax by the way? Google is NOT helpful with this.
To be fair, body armor didn't help the marines in Aliens, while Ripley got out unharmed and we all know the outfit Dutch was wearing when he finished the Predator.
Viterbi wrote:Great addition to your gang! And isn't a bikini wax another term for hair removal... down under? I can see how googling it is not helpful
Thanks! Figured that much, but did not entirely comprehend it.

Another troopie joins the gang straight out of Infinity. Could also be named Alissa, I guess.
Also started another scratch built vehicle, a scout car this time. Not much to show so far. Considering to make some scouts, thinking scifi Selous Scouts, but it's not that easy to get proper short shorts. Would also need different torsoes, because short shorts and bare midriff might be a bit much designwise.
