Random guess is that they're using GF because, last I read, Archon doesn't have the rights for USA release (CMON is doing that), and they're limited to 2000 units. Also, KS may take a higher chunk of the funding.

Ah, yes... I forgot about the split rights with CMON. Also, likely the board game specific smaller platform allows Archon/Prodos more control over things like comments so that they can potentially nix those reminders of their early crowdfunding missteps too (but that's just conjecture on my part).

Gamefound is trying to expand their market and I'm sure giving some sweet deals to high profile games as a lot of stuff over the past 2-3 months have announced they're going to be there instead of KSer.

Yeah you'd think the point of this whole operation would be to get 28mm Masters of the Universe but no.

Would you? I would have thought that if that were the point, they would have made a 28mm miniatures game instead of a boardgame.

Not every boardgame is made for miniature gamers.

my guess is figures without a game may well be tied up in the action figures licence

adding a game makes it something else to sell

hence why the LE archon figures are all going to have a game roll even tho most will have been bought for display or nostalgic hording

Aside from lifestyle games, I think boardgamers, as a population, have far more money than miniature painters and collectors.

HeroQuest: $3.7M
Zombicide : Undead or Alive : 21K backers / $3.3M. Boardgame.
Bones 5: 18K backers / $3.3M. Miniatures.
Lasting Tales: 12K backers / $1.2M. Miniatures skirmish game.
Dungeons and Lasers: 9K backers / €1,4M. Miniatures and terrain.

While there will always be more differences, another Zombicide boardgame pulled in twice as much money as two other miniature-heavy KS, both of which had more miniatures. A standard Zombicide release had more backers and as much money as major releases of the three other companies. HeroQuest, a nostalgia game, pulled in more money than a Zombicide game.

Archon has boardgame design experience and there's more money in boardgames, so, why not make more money? Also, while 28mm is a standard miniature size, boardgamers don't really care about scale when it makes some pieces more easily distinguishable from others. (Although if they still have a 2K limit, they'd probably sell out of whatever they'd offer, and mebbe just sell whatever makes them the most money...?)

More likely for the RPG.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

shows what the 'pawns' are going to be like in the main game too,

not undersized minis but bust things so it doesn't matter what size they are (although it still takes away 'value' from anybody who doesn't care about the game and is in it for minis only)

New Launch Date - 10th of August
Short update explaining postpone of the launch date.
Hello, brave champions!

We're bringing you unfortunate news. The start of Masters of the Universe™: Fields of Eternia The Board Game campaign has been postponed. The game itself is finished and tested. We sent all available prototype copies to the reviewers. However, we are preparing more amazing content in the Daily Unlocks. That's why we decided to move the date to the 10th of August. We hope you'll love the results!

It also works well as Netflix's new MOTU cartoon comes out this Friday (23rd) to drum up excitement. A shame I can't get these in the US. I would have definitely sprung for the mounted figures. Le sigh.

If it doesn't shout 'I have the power!' on a successful roll, is there even any point?
