I really like your ambot counts-as models! The legs look great, they're the perfect size. And, as an ork player, I really appreciate converted and unique armies. I agree with the story telling philosophy. It's why I play the game.

Thanks Waaazag! Funnily enough, years and years ago when I started a small ork force, I first joined Dakka to get some ideas. It was based purely on the fact I got an old airfix Messerschmitt as a christmas present and I ended up covering it in plasticard and turning it into an orky flier. Built the whole army around it, wish I still had them! I think although my current army are ad mech, deep down my heart is still big, green and orky! Of all the 40k armies I used to have (Eldar, Dark Eldar, Imperial Guard, Tyranids, Space Marines and finally Orks) the guard and the orks were my favourite. The guard were my largest 40k force and the orks were my tiniest. Barely enough to play 500 points, but I had such a blast converting them up.

As a side note I realised that thanks to my ambot conversions finally happening, all my original plans have now finally come to fruition, apart from the Kettenkrads. I need to find a 3D printing thing to make some little enough tracks for them and then I can build them right up.

My latest little project however, is building a Kill Team. In order to do that I'm using the Delaque models from necromunda.

So stay tuned for that.
At some point I'll paint all these projects too!

Cheers.

The ambot looks cool showing off it’s full height. I have a pair that need building at some point, getting a mixture of heights might be cool. Cheers for the idea!

Hey thanks No problem Gobert, looking forward to seeing yours!

Just a quick update today, a test for my Kill Team.

I was thinking for a while about using the Delaque ganger bodies for some of my Ad Mech.. They have a lovely Blanche vibe.

This is just a bog standard gunner just to test the waters.

My overall theme is that they are going to be surveyors. Armed specialists who head in first to assess any potential techarch and kill anyone who gets in the way!

Cheers!

That looks great, can honestly say I have never seen this done before and those bits go really well together. Would love to see a whole kill team like that.

Hey thanks a lot folks, really appreciate it!

@Flapjack - I'm sure someone has done it before, when I was concocting some ideas for the Kill Team that was the first thing that popped into my head. I think when I posted this on reddit someone said they'd made some rangers like that.

So while I've been building away I've not been completely quiet on the painting front.

Here's my second Kastelan.

I really like 40k lore of Kastalens, these massive ancient automata that are programmed to unleash hell. Reminds me very much of Pratchett's golems from Feet of Clay. Forget to change the words and they'll just walk off a cliff!

I particularly like this idea of itinerant robots that just turn up to help kill stuff. That's why I went away from the yellow scheme for these. Gave me an opportunity to switch up the colours and the simple colour reversal gives them a very different identity.

So I present to you Kairos Ilyich Rho-07 (in red) and its comrade-in-cybernetica Toxotum Miletus Prime. Together they make up the Sollengrad maniple. The pair were found early on in the explorator fleet's journey, on a small abandoned asteroid mining station.

Halfway through painting the priest and I'll continue building up my kill team.

Cheers!

Cheers Gobert, wanted it to look like it was in full dakka mode.

So I've been up to a bit more converting and kitbashing and the result is the first 5 members of my Kill Team.

My elite team of surveyors, they can sneak in advance of the Explorator Fleet to hunt out lost archaeotech and are packing heat in order to defend or defend against whatever they find.

The lady with the pole carries a high tech piece of equipment that can sends an incredibly powerful signal that can be locked onto no matter how deep in a tomb they find themselves. It counts as an omnispex in game.

I also had some fun making some close quarters weapons like a radium submachine gun and a radium shotgun on my Skitarii Vanguard to do some close quarters fighting.

I wanted the shotgun most of all because it just isn't a Kill Team unless there is a shotgun.

When they aren't in the Kill Team they are just part of my normal 40k rangers and vanguard units.

Hope you guys like them.

Cheers!

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the lovely comments, I'm real happy with how they look. It's one of those things where I had the idea planned in my head and it actually came out how I wanted!

I'm currently painting up the cybernetica datasmith for my kastalens. Been working had at the new company I've started with so progress has been slow. Hoping to get an hour or two in tonight!

Hey folks couple of updates today. I've got the week off so I've been managing to actually do stuff which is amazing. Having time off rocks. We should do that more often. If you're at a certain age like me, free time is a sweet gift never to be ignored.

Kairos Ilyich Rho-07 and Toxotum Miletus Prime have finally got their shepard. I've got to say I struggled with the Cybernetica Datasmith, very cool model but loads of little details.

Currently finishing off the Kill Team and the kataphrons as well.

Will post more updates soon!

Thankee kindly, Gobert!

Now for some of my last builds before I start the task of painting up the whole lot.

First up my dunecrawler. Nothing too special with this one, just a few bits and bobs to the base.

Next up, a shot of a conversion of the Wolfquad from the Atalan Jackals as a Kataphron Breacher. As you guys saw I used the tracks for my techpriest so needed an alternative.

I figured the mining laser was a good alternative for the arc cannon. This guy is the lead surveyor for the explorator fleet. The mining laser will cut into any tomb or old imperial ruins.

Just got half of a Kataphron to build and then will get the lot sprayed.

Let me know what you folks think.

Cheers!

Very nice updates. The dunecrawler looks cool. Simple additions but they work great, the reaper looks just like it belongs there.

@captain brown and Flapjack - thanks both, really appreciate it!

Just a little update because I realise I've not done any. Been very busy getting sorted for my wedding so haven't really had a chance to sit down and paint little plastic lads.

Did a little extra work on my techpriest enginseer the other week. Most importantly, found the servo skull on the carpet! Clearly the Omnissiah blessed my eyesight.

I took Guardlings advice to try and make the freehand look a little better

Be back to more updates in a little while,

Cheers!

Excellent work, both on the conversions and the painting! That kill team is a standout! I love the Dune Crawler as well, it's a great looking model to start with, but that old banner is just a cherry on top. I've got two suggestions though: you could cut the box on the base a bit so that it sits at an angle, buried in the ground (looks more organic that way). It might also be cool, if very fiddly, to add some kind of bionic bits to the reaper banner to make it more Mechanicus (or maybe Mechanicum..).

Hey, thanks CB! I'm glad I sat back down to add a few extra details.

Cheers! I had thought about doing that, I think when I add the basing sand I plan on making it drift against the box. And great idea about adding some bionic bits the banner, I'll have a look through some bitz and see what I can do!

Yeah it's funny I didn't think I had a particular style but looking online that's what it seems to be. I suppose 40k is brutal so my painting looks it too. I try to make my models look realistic I guess. I think though that means it doesn't look very good compared to some stuff I see online and on this forum!

Don’t sell yourself short, it’s a great style and works really well. I think I’ll be trying to go darker on my next project as most of my stuff is bright like 2nd Ed!

Thanks Gobert, I really appreciate that. You're painting looks incredible and I always want to try to do a much cleaner approach but I think I always end up grimy haha.

Now for something a little different..
A friend of mine from work wants to play a game of WHFB and I'm very excited. So I've been painting my High Elves. When I started being sucked back into Warhammer it was really just this one project where I was gonna restrip my very first army that I started collecting back in 1999. As I was merrily dipping in my toes I accidentally got that Ad Mech that makes up this plog.

That spearelf was one of the first models I ever bought (the box was 4 spears and 4 archers) and I'm really glad I can finally give the poor sod a paintjob he deserves. The original roughshod look of my childhood didn't do any justice.

The next are some 4th edition shadow warriors with a simple conversion. I didn't have the small kite shields they have so instead I trimmed down some old Dwarven shields I had spare. I think it works really well as the helmets have a very Grecian feel and the circular shields really add to that aesthetic. Now the poor Elves of Nagarythe haven't exactly had the best luck over the years so I wanted them to look very pale and battle worn.

Hope you folks enjoy, cheers!

Inspiring kitbashes. Combining admech with the new Delaque models is a great idea. I seem to recall it being rather common in the background as well for certain mechanicus adepts to stretch their bodies to increase their height when they want to look imposing.

Those poor elves look like they need some help with cleaning them from dust

You just need to ask in the Swap Shop if someone has spare kite shields. I just sent someone a pile of them a few months back.
