Gotta love a special paint scheme for the ace! It needs some red, white or blue smoke trailing from the exhausts. Or is it more Red Baron than Red Arrow?

there is a GW created Thunderbolt ace who favours a red scheme- suspiciously orky, but unless he is a villain a la Mission Impossible mask, it is inspired by the WW1 ace. I happy to have the ace splash some red in my interceptor wing

A quick update shot- not much happened for Imperial progress, just decals on the thunderbolt furies.

I subtly included my Eldar or Aeldari airforce wip here too ( about as subtle as their paint scheme anyways).

They are those green stuff world colorshift paints. The blue is all the same paint. The lining is blued up with draken nightshade. My enthusiasm ground to halt at the gaudy (bordering on garish to me) colour scheme, especially after I got the large FW plane and found I prefer the simpler blue base, light blue & wraithbone.

The aeldari are banned to the webway until I can decide how to proceed ( ie down the to do list).

Any comments, ideas welcome, with the perfidious xeno or the boxy & punchy imp navy.

I quite like the look of the colour shifts, though I think the accent colours are a bit gaudy. Perhaps white/bone/black would tone them down a bit, mainly because I quite like this craftworlds look

some progress at last. All the best to Dakkaites for 2023.

I spent some quality time over the Christmas Break doing some modelling.

Firstly, the Imperial Navy interceptor wing is complete. I had a near disaster getting carried away with matt varnish, brought the planes back from frosty brink by gloss coats but it limited the wash options. Even oils got caught on the uneven matt finish; you may work out which plane had an oil wash. I ended up using pin lining with a floor wax wash with liquidtex inks- even here the uneven surface had bleeding.

Matt varnish is not the same as a gloss varnish peoples, and will not save you time as a substitute

lessons learnt .

anyways the Interceptor wing...

and the full might of my Imperial Navy Air force...

And now, Ork Air WAAAGHH in mini miniature.

i belted through my ork air waagh planes for Aeronautica. I still had some purity seal spray for these ( ends up satin type finish), so using that up for da ork planes set stage for Imp navy matt incident.

these are ones I finished off painting over Christmas break.

and here is a closer shot of the Ace type fightas. I do like look of the orkified Thunderbolt- not much added to the model but at this scale I going with less is moah.

here's the ground assets. a quick base coat spray with Army Painter red spray and mostly done already. the Red seems very prone to blobbing up so more care when spraying with that vs gw spray cans.

and finally, the Ork Air Waagh in all their Glory...

Superb work vestibulata, both air arms sit together well. Good work rescuing the varnish frosting, it must’ve been frustrating for the oils to misbehave

thanks Gobert. I blamed a Christmas diet related brain fart for frenzied matt coat overspraying

I did get some other things done- I had a Tortoise kit sitting around for a while for a conversion into shadowsword. I like the Tortoise for its shape and it is lotsa fun in World of Tanks. Finally over the break I completed the kitbash:

came together pretty well- working out the spacing with the baneblade extra gun sprue took the longest though i do feel ahead of the game as the tortoise shadowsword has gaps in the bottom.

I also got around to taking a photo of these models for Taurox stand in:

They are chibi type models of vehicles from the wandering earth movie, with 3rd party taurox 6 wheel kit conversion. I lost steam when I realised my guard codex was 1 or 2 versions out.
The chibi models are very close in size though keep in mind they come with small wheels - you can check out more here http://www.meng-model.com/en/contents/59/269.html

I also completed a small Lord of the Rings Far Harad Mahud force. I'll get some photos uploaded.

The tortoise shadowsword stands up well against the baneblade. How did you construct the bits at the front, were they spare in the baneblade kit ?

thanks Gobert.

any bits coloured the same dark green as Tortoise kit superstructure is from that kit- so that's the little roller things on the front.

any Goblin green bits are square and rectangle green bases from Perry kits.

the white is plasticard.

There is green stuff as filler.

The gw grey is all their kit. The original baneblade kit accessory sprue for extra sponsons actually has much more than that- the front panels with headlights, side panels, rear barrel things and some crew.

That’s super cool. I love seeing a kitbash work so well and you getting enough bits to make a recognisable tank from different bits. Nice one
