I swear I was already planning on painting my Monolith next even before we found out about the Lord of War buffs in the new Chapter Approved coming out this weekend. Anyways, gotten started on the first few pieces of it. Two coats of gold on the smaller front and back bits, only one coat on the big middle piece because I foolishly thought I wouldn’t need to put the extra bottle of gold paint I’d picked up in anticipation of the amount this behemoth would go thru into my paint box right away. Sorry for the potato cam photos, the rear facing camera on my phone is busted and I had to use the selfie cam to take this. I dread the potential price tag of getting this camera fixed…

Got the Sepia Shade down on these Monolith components last week, and now I’ve painted up the weapon bits and wiring and it’s all ready to be Nuln Oiled, which I will again do at home to avoid interruptions because it’s so large.

Got the first parts of my Monolith all finished up. Will get started on the two side pieces next week. Painting the Blackstone parts last as I’ve got a special paint in mind for those and waiting for it to ship.

Got past my procrastination block and got back to work on my Necron Monolith and put down the initial basecoats of gold and silver on the two big side pieces. So. Much. Gold. Paint.

Got the sepia shade down on the Monolith sides. Do hate doing that on vehicles, it just never looks as good on the large flat surfaces as it does on the infantry. I was careful with the gold to make sure it didn’t pool badly, but I clearly underestimated how far it would run down the silver vanes. Luckily that’s all mostly on the inside areas you won’t see that much. Got the guns painted up, and now I’ll do the whole thing in Nuln Oil shade tomorrow!

Black wash on the Monolith sides done. Just need to get all the glowy bits painted up tomorrow now.

Got the two side pieces of my Monolith finished* up. Gonna need some slight filing on the connection points to clean those back up but otherwise pretty good. Just have the four Blackstone chunks that go in the corners left to do, but the fancy paint I ordered for those has been sitting in Chicago for two weeks now, so I don’t know how soon I’ll be able to get those done and finish this thing up completely.

I actually finally started these at the beginning of last week, but as I didn’t even get the first coat of gold on all three and then procrastinated the rest of the week, I didn’t feel it was worth making a post for. Picked up The Infinite And The Divine audiobook and settled back into them today while listening to that, however, and now the initial gold and silver coats are done and ready for their coat of Seraphim Sepia shade tomorrow. Still waiting on the shipment of colorshift paint to finish the Monolith, and incidentally one of these guys has a bit that’ll need that too.

Thought I would get the black wash down, but it took longer than I thought to paint the wires. So. Many. Wires! Do that tonight and then start working on all their glowy bits.

Painted up the bases and got the white then yellow base coat down on the glowy bits. Do the coats of Tesseract and Nuln tonight to get these all finished up.

Finished the Canoptek Spyders, baring the gloom prism on the leader which I’ll do whenever that colorshift paint decides to show up. Also worked on the final batch of Canoptek Scarabs to go with them, which themselves are so quick to paint they’re nearly finished already as well. Just need a second coat of black on the base rim, plus I forgot to paint their flight stems black, and some Nuln Oil to outline the glowy bits.

Got myself another pair of Plasmancers to form a triumvirate, ready to lay waste to my foes with arcs of lightning. Modded up their arms to repose them a bit so they’re not identical. Perhaps gets them painted up yet before this weekend now.

Making quick pace on the new Plasmancers, as well as two more pairs of Crytothrall bodyguards, who are actually more intended for a Technomancer Canoptek list I’ve got planned, but they they were convenient to paint up as the same time as these two. But yeah, base gold and silver done and sepia washed, black and silver base on the weapons, silver then blued cloaks on the Crypteks, green and blue wires, all set for the all over coat of Nuln Oil (insert meme here). It’s my long morning so probably do that at home yet today, then do their bases and glowy bits at work tonight and they’ll be all set for Mortal Kombat this weekend.

You're making awesome progress on the army AduroT!

Lot of dudes on the go in here.

This is a wonderful scheme. Really love the turquoise on the guys lucky enough to get some, great contrast. I think the washes actually came out really well on the Monolith, which is an impressive task given how flat those panels are! Really looking forward to seeing what you do with colorshift paints on the Big Block.

On a non-painting note the coloured base rings for different scarab units are a brilliant idea.

Are you playing a game this weekend? Good luck! Remember to hide your freshly painted minis, they are always the ones to die first...

Thanks! Turquoise was an evolution over the years that began with black cloaks drybrushed blue to highlight them. Later changed to shades of blues washed black. Finally with this iteration of Necrons I wanted the cloaks metallic and made use of the new contrasts over silver, then washed black.

The colored rings are from KWDesigns3D on Etsy. I do rather like them for marking units that are otherwise identical hordes.

And yeah, one of the new Plasmancers will be taking to the field tomorrow alongside the original. Trying out a pair plus Deceiver at 1k to spam Mortal Wounds. Otherwise…

Additional Plasmancers and Cryptothralls finished. Amusingly I didn’t notice before that one of the additional Cryptothralls I got off eBay awhile back came on the wrong size base. I suspect someone out there has a Plasmancer on a 32mm. I do have some spare 32s at home so I’ll have to get that fixed.

The colorshift paint I ordered from Green Stuff World finally got here! Tried it out last night to mixed results. While the overall color came out really well, I got it on there a bit too think and it turned milky in the cracks and a couple surfaces. Gonna strip this and try it over again with a much lighter touch. May go so far as to almost dry brush it on and avoid having it go into the details at all.

I'm not very familiar with the different Necron dynasties, but the contrast between the green and metallic blue is so good! Great execution, it really makes the models come alive.

Well I’m more Nephrekh Based in my scheme, as the dynasty lacks many actual examples of what they look like, so stuff like the blue cloaks and silver shoulders are additions of my own.

And after long last the Necron Monolith is completely painted and glued together! Still need to do the base though… And it’s not glued to the base yet either so I can get under there and work that up. I’ve got all the stuff I think I want so I’ll work up a couple test stuffs here soon to see how I want to do the crystals and gather opinions, then the Monolith base will probably be the first of my Necrons to get based so I can glue it down. Otherwise the colorshift paint worked out ok, not great, but not bad, and that’s more because the big chunks of Blackstone here just aren’t a good medium to show off it’s quirks. Still tempted to start a MonPoc Invaders from the Nth Dimension army and paint them entirely in different colorshifts…

That's a great looking flying pyramid, AduroT. Love the green energy effect on the orb.

Glad to see the colourshift experiment in progress - i think they look great in the first video! Interested to see where else they pop up.

Going to do the Gloomprism on the lead Spider with it, but you won’t really see it very much. The big one will be Silent King’s laser turrets when I get around to doing him.

Not quite done, but sufficient for proof of concept test subjects for my Necrons’ fancy basing. I want to have at least my initial forces fully based before the 40k Crusade Campaign starts this weekend. Two nights should be enough to base up just north of two dozen foot sloggers.

Texture paints down! Now to wait a day for them to fully dry and cure. Most of them don’t need that long, but some of them went down thick, especially where the cracked earth effects are present around the crystals. Hit the bases with Nuln Oil to shade them (carefully avoiding getting it inside the cracked earth) and then repaint the rims black. Really a whole lot of time spent not actually painting them and just letting simple stuff dry. I guess I’ll just have to watch more tv.
