People without their heads in the sand could've predicted 9th and additional bloat happening.

Considering everyone knew that GW is going to be replacing all classic sm models, what did people expect from something like the marine book. That GW is going to suicide itself by making classic marines legends or that they don't try to milk marine player by spreading the update over 2-3 editions.

This way they can slowly sell all primaris models to marine players, rotating their power over a few month period. I mean who thought that plasma primaris dreads and jump pack guys are going to be the unit to have at the start of 8th ed? Or that eliminators are going to be run as often as they are being run right now.

If you have to kill, then kill in the best manner. If you slaughter, then slaughter in the best manner. Let one of you sharpen his knife so his animal feels no pain.

Point is, no one here ever accurately predicts what GW will or won't do, did, or does because GW is a Rabid Honey Badger and it doesn't give a crap.

Well anyone who's not a complete dumbass can predict that there'll be a next edition of the game. It only happens every 3-4years on average....
Here's my predictions for 10th ed:
1) About summer 2024 (I figure the pandemic has slowed them down by about a year, otherwise you'd be buying new books in '23)
2) And the lead army is.....
Spoiler:
Space Marines!

I dunno, now that you have predicted it, the magnetic tape server based hive mind that is GW is already calculating the cost of making a DoW4 Style of Table Top DOTA WH40k, starring the lead army of Macha and her long lost love, Gabriel Angelos, with their awkward love triangle sidekick, Jain Zar. You might mock this, but I can see GW doing something completely stupid and ridiculous that not only attempts to appease a faction no one cares about (Necrons) while simultaneously Shotgun blasting us in the face with an entire faction's worth of models that were completely unnecessary and lore breaking, say Primaris Marines....in the next edition. Only it will be:

This is a totally random aside ....

But I wish GW made their own digital tabletop platform. I'd even be in favor of a system where you would buy digital models for your army, and also have it so that purchasing actual physical models gives you a game code/key to unlock its digital versions.

Of course, I wouldn't trust GW to not make the whole system terrible. You'd need a much more competent and sophisticated developer than GW's usual digital outings. If it's not better than Table Top simulator, it would be a big fail IMHO.

They can't even make an app that functions at a basic level, I severely distrust any "program" they would come up with to do this. Table Top Simulator would be the best idea, if they made a sanctioned 40k DLC.

I'm so confused by GW's choices as to which chapter is getting a focus as to scare me. There are currently people who would drown GW in money if they released primaris GK or Primaris LoD. But instead it's IF/Sal/BA/DA. I honestly can't understand who is deciding where to focus the love beam. It's like a Miss America pagent but instead of any of the finalist, the judges pick "It's PAT" from SNL.

They're focusing on the Chapters they can do with a book, a pauldron sprue, and one character. GK would need whole new kits.

Indeed. For all the angst the flood of marine releases are causing I see them as schedule filler. Something to keep the hype train rolling and allow them to maintain the impression of a steady stream of new releases. For logistical and sales reasons GW want to spread out the release of unique factions, especially those with lots of new models. Kicking out a supplement where the bulk of the work has already been done in the core codex along with a special character or faction sprue every few months is an easy way of doing that.

Whilst a lot of people are upset that Marines seem to be getting all the love at their own factions expense I don't believe we'd be seeing other codex releases in place of these supplements if they weren't there, just a gap without much to get hyped about. I expect the schedule will continue to be:
Unique faction with large number of new kits
<Marine supplement filler>
Codex without large number of new kits
<More marine supplement filler>
Codex without large number of new kits
<More marine supplement filler>
Unique faction with large number of new kits
Repeat as needed....

The point I am referencing is people saying Xenos are fine because look, necrons just got updated.

It is obviously a problem, it makes lots of people unhappy, and it would be good if GW did something about it - but I don't expect them to.

My advice to Xenos players is to give up on the dream of being treated any better than you currently are and lower your expectations. GW sees Xenos factions as fourth rate factions, fit only to be beaten up by the real stars of the show. It is a weird way to run a multi faction game but it seems to work for them.

Most people in this thread haven't been saying that, though - they were pointing out that the OP was factually incorrect when his opening post claimed we'd had 4-5 codex released wthout a Xenos book.

As it stands, a Xenos book was either the 1st or 2nd release, and we've got another on the schedule (though, thanks to COVID, we're unsure when it'll drop, exactly).

I think we can all learn all we need about the validity of the general head in the sand-ness of Dakka Prognosticators by the sheer fact that after the release of sisters, people were claiming that 8th would be a "Living edition" and there was never going to be a 9th. I remember people getting in fights about even the possibility of 9th. Point is, no one here ever accurately predicts what GW will or won't do, did, or does because GW is a Rabid Honey Badger and it doesn't give a crap.
Ehh, I think the theories that stand out in a discussion and thus tend to be remembered later are the more extreme and the more controversial. 'GW feels they made a more modern design for Sisters in 8th and so they will not get a 9th edition codex this year' is an entirely reasonable and almost certainly accurate prediction to make right now, there isn't much to talk about. No one would remember I made that prediction a year from now. If I said 'GW sees that codex marines are a problem and will give them a new codex before the end of the year' THAT would generate some back-and-forth, and is crazy enough for someone to recall a year out.
