Seems they have got it unstuck and engines started. Now checking damage. And it's been straightened so ships can go past to at least some degree.

I was really hoping the life-sized Gundam would get a shot at fixing this.

Maybe next time.

Does make you realise just how precarious global trade can be.

No anti-global sentiment intended, but it’s always fascinating to get a glimpse at stuff we typically take for granted.

I mean, I doubt many people hadn’t heard of the Suez Canal given history. But this puts it in clearer perspective.

It also shows why we need to invent teleporters. Mostly because teleporters are cool.

There have been attempts to get zeppelins back for years. But its an idea that's never really got off the ground in a big way.

They'll never have the speed of aircraft; nor the sheer bulk of sea. Their benefit is no reliance on ports and the ability to unload and load at smaller sites than airfields or ports, but in the end they are still slow and still come with risk. Plus there's the vast start up costs of trying to setup a brand new international or even national network.

Egyptian authorities are saying it’s now been freed, according to the BBC.

I'm fairly disappointed it just sort of got fixed?

I was at least hoping Elon Musk was going to say he'd turn up to try and affix rockets to the ship and then call everyone a pedo again.

I wonder how much is belief and how much is trolling.

Same result either way I guess.

The problem with groups like that is that the trolls and fanatics are almost impossible to tell apart online. The scary thing is some of the trolls will create new fanatics without even intending too (though I'm sure there are some who consider it fun to do so).

I'm still lost on this whole "tanker" thing. What is it?

Teleporters open a whole new can of worms if you're into scifi. Are you replicating stuff on the other side of the teleporter? Are you the same person/thing when you get to the other side?

Even on a societal scale there are a lot of implications. What if teleportation becomes miniaturized? Now you have to worry about bombs, drugs, human trafficking and other methods of terrorism/crime that no longer have to worry about borders. Ideally at that point there would be some type of technology that blocks teleportation but it definitely brings up a lot more problems than solving them IMO.

There is also money to be made, the facebook pages and such for conspiracy theories generate add revenue. As always, there remains financial incentive to mislead stupid people.

There's a market for flat earth maps/models and such too. Again you see the same thing, someone selling their own designed flat earth model to flat earthers supporting the whole system because its an easy sell.
