Welcome to the Eternal Crusade, brother!

1.) Outriders by themselves are a very mediocre unit, sadly. The lack of any melee options on the squad leader is really hurting their usability.

The biggest buff Templars add to them would be the 5++ invul from Uphold the Honour and personally I don't believe this is enough. Have shown up in 0/2 tournament winning lists for BT so far.

One squad won't lose you the game, but they are not tournament tier.

2.) Definitely a solid and competitive option. Try it out wether one big or two smaller squads suit your style more. The upgrade to Chief Apothecary might be a possibility to save points if needed.

3.) Grimaldus is great but so is a Chaplain on bike with Tannhäuser Bones. There is no reason to take a regular Chaplain on foot, so it depends a bit what you are looking for.

Tannhäuser Bones is for board control and to soak up damage. Grimaldus is for buffing footsloogers. Consider Helbrecht as well. He absolutely shreds.

Yeah, my current list is basically:

Helbrecht, Grimaldus, Giga Chaplain on Bike w/ Bones and Heir

1 5man Assault Intercessor Squad w/ Balthus Fist on the Sergeant
2 melee crusader squads

2 6man Bladeguard Vet Squads, one Icon of Hein, one Crux w/ Sergeant of the Feast
Chief Apoth w/ Crusader Helm
3 Redemptors

Blood Angels, Custodes, Tzeentch, Alpha Legion, Astra Militarum, Deathwatch, Thousand Sons, Imperial Knights, Tau, Genestealer Cult.

I have a problem.

Being contrary for the sake of being contrary doesn't make you unique, it makes you annoying.

I really wish Outriders were better, I just can’t shake this want for them to be good.

Quick question: if I give a captain (marshal) in Gravis armour the tanhauser’s bones relic, would that make every thing that shoots him whether it be a lasgun to the new Tau Rail rifle eligible for the generic strat from the SM codex that gives him a +1 to his armour save against D1 weapons? Because in this situation every weapon is D1

Give him the Iron Resolve trait as well and he’s gone to 8 wounds at T5 2+ armour (effectively) 4++ invulnerable and then a 5+++

Crusaders are the signature unit of BT.
In a standard BT list, I'd be inclined to include 3 Crusader squads and 3 Redemptors (new Tau railguns aside).

Is taking units of 15 PCS (1xSB 6neophytes and 8intiates) a viable option as a middle ground?

Would get near the durability of a full 20 but would still nearly have the utility of a 10 man squad

Yeah. I get that it seems like assault intercessors are probably a more consistently better choice, but if I don't bring crusader squads, why am I even playing black templars?

Quick question: if I had taken the suffer not the unclean to live vow and used the exemplars of the crusade strat on some sword brethren would the additional hits from the 6s on the strat also be an automatic wound?

If so then a sword brethren unit armed with chain swords with this combo and stacked with the fervent acclamation litany to give them the accept any challenge vow as well would be quite a tasty unit

So quick question. Is it better now to give the Sword Brother on a Primaris Crusader Squad the power sword or axe now?

I remember when this supplement first came out, people seemed to agree that the axe was better, since it had a better chance to wound against T5 things like Custodes/Gravis armor, and most things that had 2+ armor that the sword would in theory be better agrainst had invulns anyway. And if you really need AP, you could take up to 4 powerfists in a full squad. So most people took the axe.

But now with Armor of Contempt a thing, is that still true? Now the axe is going to only to -1 Ap against most Marines, which means they'll get a 3+ or 4+ save compared to only 4+ or 5+ from a sword...
