Quite like the design of spiky paint things.

In particular, for getting a steady grip it looks like we have two grip points. Base of the holder in the palm, finger across each grip, and it should be nice and steady?

Not sure I particularly need it but I appreciate the design all the same. Also nice that they spray stick has holes for them too.

I like the idea of the subassembly holder, but won't the nubs wear down if you continually glue bits to them and tear them off?

Anyway you can make the same thing out of sprue.

I'll be sticking to sprue sections for heads but I wouldn't say those key bits need to be thought of as disposable, actually they seem to be some sort of turning key for the spray stick.

Probably why the set includes 44 of them, they're meant to be disposable.

And that's what's putting me off them - it seems wasteful.

Could you just not throw them away?

Yes, but the way GW describe them they have limited reuseability:

The sub-assembly holder contains 44 part holders made from the same plastic as Citadel miniatures, so you can easily glue small pieces like heads and weapons onto them for comfort while you’re painting, then clip them off and glue them to the model.

Most people I know just attach things like heads to a straightened out paperclip with a drop of superglue.

Or toothpicks, cocktail sticks, or any of the other million pointy and easily holdable things people have laying around.

I think the idea is you glue the part to the stick and then cut it off when done, since it's "made from the same plastic as models". Not sure why I wouldn't just use superglue and snap the part off tbh?

The spray stick seems to fix the main issue with the old version - that spraying the side facing toward the handle is difficult.

The handle is removable and goes into either end. Takes more patience but removes the need for hand gymnastics or ambidextrous spraying.

I have a mental image of the new handle spinning really fast as you spray it because of the continuous force of paint hitting the minis.

So, serious question for anyone with the Mk1 spray stick thing - how've you found it, and are you considering an upgrade to the Mk2?

It's not awful?

Some folks got me a pair of them for my birthday this past year, and the biggest issue is that it doesn't feel like it should hold things in place. Plus the whole "you need to rotate it or remove the handle to get at it from another angle" part. I've just been putting both handles on the same one as I go to do spraying and that seems to do the trick.

Additionally, be careful when first utilizing it. I may or may not have rocketed a gryph-hound at someone because I didn't have it situated just right in the rubberbands.

I got the MKI as a gift. I don't use the handle, it's a bit cumbersome, so I just use a latex glove and grab it from underneath (yeah, I know how that sounds ). I like the rubber bands system, it's quicker than sticking minis on a stick (at least for me it is). I don't see why i'd upgrade to the MK2 handle unless the MK1 breaks though.
