Oh geez. I didn't even see that this book has a supplement for Leviathan.

This guy goes over the rules:

It's disappointing that Orks aren't getting more, but let's not act like they're worse off than Nids.

Hmmm... The inclusion of those specific fortifications leads me to believe that the campaign rules may have some influence from Planetstrike. If so, I'm cautiously curious.

As far as the Nid content goes, it's very good. Warlord traits are all actually useful and viable. Relics are all good, but Nids still pay 1/3CP for +1 or +2 relics, which is a shame. Leviathan stratagems are effective and useful. Synaptic Link abilities are quite good, or even awesome, but some of them come with a subpar platform, so it's a decent tradeoff.

Borrowing adaptations from other fleets (or even custom fleets) for a turn or autoexploding our monsters is quite good.

Almost everything is focused on offensive, adaptability, tricks, and obsec manipulations. No defensive buffs.

The only "sad" part is the Trygon Prime. When was the last time this model was on the table during the Tyranid's player command phase...

Only payed attention to the Nids.
What was good got better, what was bad still is.
And very CP hungry.

It's very good content for nids. Also, the cadians got some good stratagems to try out. The reviews didn't show much of the inquisition or fortifications, but it seemed that they are still going to be left at shelf.

Reviews explicitly state Inquisition and Tyranid stuff (except subfaction) are reprints.

My enthusiasm has depleted. That's what I get for being positive

What about the Inquisition Name Generator? Did they say anything about that?

That's my reading too.
Very lazy supplement for nids.

The synaptic link stuff for Nids is universal, and new, but it was previewed on Warcom, so no big shiny surprise.

None of the subtle changes I was looking for from the Inquisition though- Sadface! (Though not surprised) It did say there were minor changes to bring it in line with 9th, but if any of the minor tweaks I had hoped for had been made, surely the Goons would have mentioned them.

Deathwatch sounds interesting.

They make interesting points about the guard- like how Cadia was already in a prime position and just got stronger, or how the current lake of purity bonus due to being an 8th ed dex gives people a window to use a Cadian detachment without issues.

Edit: Oh- just read the Mission Pack review. Unit, I think you and I might like it. Unfortunately, it sounds like this set is more linked than previous Mission Pack/ Campaign book combos, because the mission pack content references the campaign tree stuff in the campaign book. But for me, this achieves something I really wanted: attackers get CP refunds for Vanguard detachments. This means an Inquisition Vanguard that is attacking can pretend GW got it right and made Accolytes troops- ie we can still have command points.

But it looks like this also solves some fortification problems and provides REAL asymmetry.

Biggest disappointment for me actually is the Imperial Guard crusade rules.

I think they are not so hot, since the reviews I have been able to find essentially just ignore them.

Another bs DLC release from GW. Updated fortification datasheets in one book, the reason to use them is in a different book.

I’m sick of this gak.

The reprint of inquisition rules and inclusion of fortification rules just guaranteed I'll probably never buy a campaign book ever again.

I thought I saw a video on Cadian's getting their own codex/Supplement book, but it turned out to be a review of Cadian portion of this new campaign. Tricky click bait imagery.

But can anyone else see that, IG going to a Supplement style codex?

I think the potential exists, but some other faction will have to go first. I think other than Marines, it's Chaos who has the most potential to be that faction...

But then again, to some extent, that's kinda happened with the breakout of Deathguard and Ksons, and if rumours are to be believed, WE for sure, and possibly EC.

So I think, given that, supplements will probably remain a Marine thing for some time.

This is a "Cadian Supplement", but like the other non-marine supplements it's only a few pages.

The only winners are Nids really.

Guard stuff is okay at best, bad at worst.

Warlord Traits are worthless, nothing there really worth not taking another FP manticore over. If anything, now there's a reason to just sacrifice your warlord and pay 1 CP to get Grand Strategist. That way you can basically get 2 tank aces and a decent WT.

The relics are again, mixed bag. Gatekeeper is alright, but you have to weigh it against a demolisher TC. Which does average 3.5 damage, has S10, and AP-3. The Sword is another good relic, basically a better Blade of Conquest and can go well with the new Whiteshields. Pax Cadia looked awesome initially, until you realise it only works on the stratagems in that book. Even then only 4 out of the 7 stratagems.

The stratagems are definitely the best part for the Cadians. Shocktroopers can be useful. It could give some mobility to Tank Commanders, and the additional AP can be nice on AP0 weapons. The additional hits on 6's one would be cool on Demolishers, Manticores, potentially even artillery batteries (like the Quad Launcher). Whiteshields would have been awesome pre-Dark Eldar but now killing 30 T3 5+ models isn't that difficult.

Terrain stuff sucked. Love how they nerfed most of it, as if anyone even took any. GW really need to tweak terrain placement rules. Allow players to swap terrain for fortifications inside their deployment zone. That'd at least make them usable.

Inquisition stuff is just a copy-paste. Would have liked some point drops on the named characters. Even the option of taking an Inquisition Vanguard detachment for 0CP that didn't break army doctrines. At least that'd make anything that isn't an Inquisitor fieldable.

Deathwatch don't come out too bad. You're only losing out on Dreadnoughts as any other unit can simply be combat attached out from a kill team (vanvets, eradicators, etc). I think it has some interesting options and I'm going to start thinking about list options over the next few days.
