Getting further in, I like the depiction of Caitlyn and her buddy cop/romantic tension with Vi. Jayce and Viktor's relationship has been pretty good too. This show has excellent foreshadowing and mood.

I also have to say I've been impressed with many of the side characters who have never appeared before (as far as I know). Marcus is a dirty cop, but a dirty cop you can have enough sympathy for to pity. Silco has been a surprisingly effective scene-stealer too and I've been surprised at how the show has maintained his ruthlessness but given him a soft spot that feeds into Jinx's development.

EDIT: Finished it and it was pretty damn great, but damn was that cliffhanger a total dick move >.>

Ahahahah, yeah, but honestly? It was perfect. If we never ever get a continuation, that would be just about a perfect ending for a "movie", IMHO. Yes, it 's a cliffhanger, but it fething works.

I wouldn't really call it a cliffhanger. We all know what happens next even with zero knowledge of the games. We watched them build their house of cards one piece at a time. We've seen the whole structure, so we know exactly how it all falls apart next.

But the only character who really reached the end of their origin story was Jinx!

They changed a lot about some of the character's backstories, so it's hard to know what's set up for a potential second season or follow-up series and what isn't. There's a few obvious pieces of sequel bait near the end. There's a blink and you'll miss it scene that definitely is foreshadowing Warwick, a character who has several lines suggesting he has a history with Jinx. They changed huge amounts of Jayce and Victor's stories, but I have to assume they still have a falling out, right? Does Heimerdinger resume his role in Piltover after the rest of the council get skilled? When and how does Ekko get his time powers! How does Victor become a cyborg!?

I need one more season damnit! We've basically wrapped up the Vi and Jinx tragedy, but I'd still like to see how Caitlyn becomes the Sheriff of Piltover and how she convinces Vi, who badmouths enforcers a lot in the series, to become the champion titled the Piltover Enforcer. Or maybe she doesn't? Is Vi's original amnesia backstory going to come back later and the origin story we knew is actually just what Caitlyn told her after the fact?

They gotta give us at least one more season dangit!

I guess... but the thing is that, as someone that doesn't know or gives a feth about LoL or its lore... it doesn't really feel that way.

It feels like there was a story to be told, and it was told, and all participants' stories felt like they went on and conflued in the ending (Jayce, Viktor,Mel) , or their part on it ended and went on with their lives (Heimerdinger, Ekko, Savika...).

From an outsider's perspective, it's a pretty self contained story that doesn't really need much else, but with extra hooks to allow a continuation.

He already has them and uses them to defeat Jinx on the bridge. Jinx kills him, time rewinds and he gets her on the second try.

It's also how he's built up his little haven per the white lie he tells Heimerdinger.

Huh.

I assumed that was a flashback to when they were kids. Hadn't considered they'd hidden the time powers in plain sight but I can see it.

Even Jinx's arc isn't completely finished, she still lacks that ever present grin her game counterpart lacks.

She is almost there though.

EDIT: Another story that would be very good I think is the tragedy of Leona and Diana. When I played, they were a bit like Jinx and Vi except the story seemed to imply that they were lovers who got torn apart and pitted against one another by powers beyond their control. I'd watch some of that drama especially if they handled it like they did Jinx and Vi.

Leona and Diana would be amazing because I love the characters. Playing them and their stories. But also because they could do Mount Targon, which has a lot to do with some of the Celestial champions like Arelion Sol and most importantly, BARD!

Also Pantheon would undoubtedly be involved.

Edit: I think we are seriously forgetting about a very VERY important character from Zaun who was hinted at LARGELY in the show but nobody really talks about. The Madman of Zaun himself, Dr. MUNDO!

Edit2: Also, the second season is confirmed for 2023. A lot of stories didn't get finished. Vi, Caitlyn, Singed, and Ekko all need to be resolved. I am sure it will involve Jinx doing Jinx things, as she is in full on bad girl mode now.

The only problem with Leona and Diana is that Arcane already did the "torn apart and pitted as enemies" tragedy (and it is going to do it again with Viktor and Jayce), so it would likely come off as repetitive.

I could see that, but then it also doesn't really feel like Vi and Jinx are exactly enemies now.

I feel like what Vi said still holds true. They'll always be sisters. They still love each other. But they can't be together because too much has changed. I'm not sure they're reached the point where they're bitter enemies. Vi and Jinx ultimately part ways because they both realize it's the only way. Leona and Diana were set off to murder each other.

And yeah. I feel like Vi and Jinx's relationship was at the center of this season and the next will likely switch to another pair of characters as its center point. My bet would be Jayce and Viktor. Presumably, they somehow survive the attack on the council, but with the Council and Silco dead, they'll probably find themselves in the position of leading Piltover through a time of crisis despite Jayce trying to step down just before the attack.

The stressors of that and what to do would be the drama that tears Jayce and Viktor apart. It could also segway into how Caitlyn becomes sheriff and Vi becomes an enforcer.

2023 eh? Firs time I've seriously looked forward to a second season in a long time!

EDIT: It's also maybe worth considering that the series is a lot grittier than LoL usually plays itself off. The tone of LoL's setting is... swinging. Sometimes it's really dark. Sometimes it's really soft. Really depends on Riot's mood almost. Is the end point of Jinx supposed to be the Runeterra Joker, or is she going to develop more from here and eventually become a less-lethal prankster? It is possible Jinx's character development isn't really done.

I mean, the trailer for season two pretty much explicitly says that Vi is hunting down Jinx and plans to put her down: "It has to be me."

She plans to capture her, similar yet quite different.

More importantly capturing Jinx is easier said than done, as LoL Vi has never been able to capture her because Jinx is a genius.

Binged this this weekend. Was honestly very impressed and didn't expect to be, lots of little touches to the animation (fire, explosions and smoke being distinctly animated while characters were usually realistic made for interesting effects), and characters that were actually sympathetic with (mostly) their own motivations was a pleasant surprise.

Weakest was probably Marcus (not counting the also there council members), since I couldn't figure out what he thought he was getting out of...anything, let alone what his endgame was supposed to be. Any bit of effort from a lot of people would have exposed him sharpish.

Amused that the heiress (Caitlyn) was the most grounded and rational character in the whole thing. And that my sympathies for Vi and Powder flipped real quick after the prologue.

Very well done show

Marcus initially believes in black and white application of the law and disapproves of Grayson's tactics in dealing with Vander. His attempts to do things the way he feels they should be done result in disaster, Grayson's death and a much worse situation than before. He's left trying to repair the damage he's caused, but without a benevolent counterpart to work with. Instead his attempts to broker the same kind of peace Grayson give Silco leverage to exploit him and drag him further into a compromised position. He no longer had an end game, nor was he getting anything out of it. He was trapped under the thumb of both the Silco and the Council who only wanted to ensure peace in Piltover regardless of the cost to the people of Zaun. That's kind of the point; his corruption was blatant and obvious, but something the Council was happy to turn a blind eye toward as long as it kept the problems in the city out of Piltover.

I'm liking this so far. The characters are compelling and nuanced and the art/animation style is both unique and nice. I'm about 2/3 of the way through and will likely finish by this weekend. A bonus is that the creators aren't being complete douchebags on social media unlike another recent animated property.

Ok, very late to the party on this. Just watched the whole thing.

It was incredible! From the artstyle, to the animation, to the music, the characters, story, voice acting. Everything was just so high class. And the fight scenes were just amazing (special shout out to Ekko v Jinx - that was inventive).

I knew nothing about LoL coming into this either. I take it that in the game Vi and Caitlyn are a couple?

Not explicitly, though Vi and Caitlyn are probably one of the game's most popular ships along with Katrina/Garen. There is enough in-game dialogue that tease it back when I played (Vi calling Cait 'cupcake' and being generally suggestive in most of their lines together), many fans just took it as a given that they were hot for each other even if the game never outright said it.

While I haven't played in several years now, League tends to tease details about its characters beyond their bios more than outright state them. The game rarely outright says anything. Vi and Jinx for example were hinted to hell and back to be sisters for years but nothing in game ever outright said it. The devs are also nth level smert and are aware that shipping can be very good for business if you use it right. They tease ships like crazy to get the fanfiction community a running and Cait and Vi are one of the most consistently teased ships because they're very popular in the fanbase. I did a Ao3 search just now out of curiosity and Caitlyn and Vi are the most written about ship by quite a margin.

Arcane is definitely shipping them hard.

New Character bio just came out, looks like it is a character for Zaun. Possibly a new character for next season of Arcane as well.

Didn't see it... but if that's true "quite a while" is "about 10 years".

In other news, Arcane got 10 Annie Awards nominations, this year:
