You cannot cancel an order via GW's webstore once it's been processed and waiting to ship. Not sure who's suggested you can?

You can, however, return it once it arrives at the GW shop if you're doing in-store collection or you can do a return via GW Customer Service...which is something independents with GW accounts can also do.

EU law does
any order made in an EU online shop can be cancelled without reason within 14 days

I'm pretty sure that the EU law mentioned regarding cancellation does actually have caveats, or people would be getting free crap all the time.

The store is within a short driving distance of where I live and I go there 2-3 times a week, so it is very much a local store. The fact that they also have a robust online presence is irrelevant to the "localness" of it.

I believe he was referring to their customer base and not the distance from your house. I could be wrong though, reading comprehension is hard as you have demonstrated... No store is selling 250 copies of Dominion to local players other than maybe Warhammer World.

I’m really not shocked by this move, my FLGS still has more Dominion sets in stock than any of AoS starter sets in total. They also have a fair few of the Octarius boxes still in which were supposedly going to be rare and sell out quick. Bearing in mind this place isn’t super out the way and definitely doesn’t have a footfall problem.

GW did do this for the right reasons but ended up shooting themselves and their stockists in the foot with this, I can imagine that a stockists being outraged was probably a good reason for it getting binned. More than a few did lose money on some of the recent made to order runs.

GW seems to make wayyyy too many of the boxed sets and not enough of their board games or OP new release models. Blackstone Fortress is going for several times more than it cost at retail while hundreds of copies of Dominion sit on store shelves and go unsold on ebay.

What? No, not at all. If it's shipped then the refund is conditional on returning the goods in saleable order, obviously if it hasn't shipped it's even more straightforward.

The only thing even slightly complicated, at least in the UK, is who's liable for the shipping, and even that is simply a question of if the consumer changes their mind, they pay, if there's something actually wrong with the product, the retailer does.

And that's why the part that I said which you cut out about "caveats" is relevant.

So you can cancel without reason, but there's still hoops to jump through to get your money back. Thanks for proving my point.

Defining "not committing a crime" as a "hoop" in order to try and save face is really peak Kan.

but there are none, if the item is already shipped you need to send it back
if it is not shipped, no problem
if the company does not refund the money in time, they have to provide good reasons for it (and will have a hard time against consumer protection agencies if they just ignore you)

Whatever. Kodos was wrong, there are rules in place. You don't get to just cancel and be done with it.

Have a great day! I have stuff to get painted.

Ill be honest if a "local store" Ordered 500 copies and only sold 250, thats not an issue on GW, thats the store managers fault for WAY over estimating his customer base.

I'd argue its a bit of a dual fault. . . . To use an example from a different industry, I was talking with my LBS bloke about the state of their supply chain (He knows my education background, and that I am not "allowed" to use that background at my place of employment, so he's cool letting me workout those parts of my brain) and was going through how the constrictions at the bicycle manufacturers has caused all kinds of problems. . . .

Well, at the beginning of the supply problems, in order to see ANY bikes, some shops were placing stock orders for 600 bikes. Ultimately, what some specific brands had to do was take a look at their total order volume, and comb each small shop's order. . . . Alas, my local shop ended up with about 20 "surprise" bikes from this manufacturer due to them re-leveling stock. Basically, the shop who placed a sudden order for 600 bikes got reviewed by the brand. The brand says "you do an average of 5 bikes, per year. We will send you 7, and the rest of the order is cancelled. You may place your normal stocking order for next model year as usual" . . . Meanwhile, they had built many more bikes in that order, and needed to sell them, so the redistributed them based on the sales volume of other shops.

In a way, GW should've taken a look at the "local store" who ordered 500 copies of a given "special box", looked at historical data and said, "you usually do 100-150 units of this type of boxed item. Unless you can produce a paid pre-order system, your request for 500 will be down sized to one which you normally move"

I fail to see why they need to scrap it?

If the initial batch sells out, they just make more for those orders over the pre-order weekend.

If it doesn't sell out, they don't need to produce anymore anyway so nothing really changes?

I'd say that perhaps having the 2 week pre-order system may help in the long run. Week 1 is "pre-order stock guarantee" . . . if you order it from day 0-6 of the pre-release cycle. You'll get it on launch. If you wait for day 7-13, "we" will try to fill your order, but you may not see immediately.

It's a method which aids the forecasting/production teams, as well as the customers, and we can honestly look a multiple industries/shops who do this successfully.

Wouldn't have made a difference, the store in question is one of the largest trade accounts GW has in North America (they say top 3, I think it's probably more like top 5 but at that point you're splitting hairs). When other stores are told that each store is capped at 2 boxes of a given product, this store (and a handful of others) are getting 20.

Yes you do. When one hobby store said they have problems fulfilling my order, I just cancelled it with a single click and went elsewhere. And it's like that for every single thing you buy online in EU, no matter what it is, books, shoes, nails, literally only very specific things like perishable food are exempt from it. People even buy online stuff in their nearby store to pick it up there instead of taking from shelf spending a few extra minutes for protection it gives you.

I know you like to be wrong in 99% of the posts but for so easily verifiable thing it's like insisting circles are square
