We may see Pariah’s return yet. Reversing Bio-Transference could involve many steps.

I believe that Necron Pariahs are the perfect candidate for a Necron Kill Team.

On a side note. This thread is proving a wonderful treasure trove for obscure lore. I’ve wanted to make a 40k Iceberg image that could rival the elder scrolls one, but slowly am running out of entries.

One of that list is the Tyranid Narvhal; the bioship responsible for allowing the hive fleets to enter warp-speed. I don’t remember them mentioned in more recent fluff, and I hope they weren’t retconned.

My envisioned route for Pariah’s to return is rooted in the Pariah Nexus. I can just see Illuminoer Szeras noticing that certain humans just don’t seem bothered by its effects, and wanting to dig deeper to understand the why.

From there, the potential emerges for a Warrior Class of his own devising, sold to the Overlords etc as a possible path to reversing Bio-Transference, and into bodies utterly immune to the predations of Chaos.

Could be in the next Codex. Could be longer. But the narrative path is right there, should they wish to take it. I for one would quite welcome that new level of body horror in the background.

I really enjoy the chronological progression indicated in Battlefleet Gothic's ship roster. You've got a couple of leftovers from the Great Crusade, like the Terminus Est, but most of the Chaos ships are M31-M37 designs and most of the Imperial ships are M35-M40.

The differences in aesthetics and fleet characteristics were explained by shifts in Imperial fleet theory (Chaos ie old Imperial ships favored speed and long range, while new Imperial ships favor torpedoes and reinforced prows), and there's one family of cruisers designed to explicitly bridge the gap. The Imperial ships tend to be slower due to the loss of manufacturing capability of high-output plasma drives, but they have other technological innovations like nova cannon. It paints a picture of an Imperium that is gradually losing the ability to mass-produce their best technology, but has come up with new technologies, and has changed over time rather than total stagnation.

If BFG ever comes back I suspect the whole thing will have to be retconned, because we now have a fleshed-out Heresy that is technologically and aesthetically near-identical to 40K.

BFG was an awesome expansion to the background. Love it.

Also love the "hypno-indoctrinated criminal" space marines, that's my preferred version.

And shared Ork-Imperial worlds and the general greater tolerance for Xenos in old 40K is something I think should come back. For sure there should be extreme xenophobic factions in the imperium who are exactly like the modern version, but I think there should be more interactions on the fringes of Imperial space and the various backwaters.

Still can be if you like. Nothing stating it can’t happen, write your own fluff. My groups games all happen on a frontier type world with ORKS and traitor sections, not getting along but it’s not total war and extermination, no one side is powerful enough.

I would say it is still cannon for the fringes and margins, looking at Blackstone Fortress.

It was in the 8th codex as I recall, dunno if it is in the 9th but either way recent enough to be considered cannon.

I still think of the tau as new comers. I should maybe move on a bit.

Them being "polar bears" was potentially a joke from Jevis Johnson. Since then they've been described as having avian-like skulls and quills.

Same. I’m still a little bitter about their release in 3rd. Let’s nerf the heck out of the old, sleek xenos race (Eldar) and introduce a new sleek xenos (Tau)!

Even dwarves would ease up on a grudge at this point.

Sleek? T'au? Are we thinking about the same thing?
The army with the boxy armour design and vehicles that are like 20% intake engine?

I might exaggerate a little for humor.

Their tanks are still mostly curves, as a counterpoint to Imperial boxes. And the aesthetics are more slick modern then baroque gothic.

I recall being torqued at the time comparing things like the hammerhead vs. the falcon, and shucats vs pulse rifles. Debated running my eldar minis counts-as tau.

Obviously this is all decades ago, so I forget the details. Just left with the lingering feeling that Eldar were done dirty by 3rd, and the tau were all new and sparkly, and what they could have done with the Eldar, but didn’t.

I font think you needed to worry. in-game it was the opposite. Eldar were utterly brutal back in third. Tau? Not so much! :p

To be fair, I had a bit of 2nd to 3rd salt going on. I was ramping up my Eldar as a second army in 2nd, and it just did not make the transition with the new rules. I might have been able to make it work, but just focused my effort on my Ultras. It wasn’t until 6th that the knife-ears came back with a vengence. The idea of putting together a mechanized infranty/hover tank list just seemed to fit the tau rules better. At least my perception at the time. Didn’t see a lot of tau on the table, so a lot of theoryhammer.

In the RT rulebook, the 'Battle at the Farm' happened because Pedro Cantor (a captain) and his men were tired and needed to rest, Yes, Space marines apparently get tired quite easily

In WD 94, the scenario following battle for the farm, 'Skirmish on Rynn's world' The surviving Crimson Fists reach new Rynn City, and the 'City Guard' are as well trained and equipped as Space marines.

In the old Fluff, space marines were not super humans, they were regular men who had undergone some minor enhancements and some mental conditioning, usually very violent men as well. the RT rulebook has the space marines round up entire gangs of underhive scum to force them to become marines, none of this 'only the best physical specimens will do' it was more like, 'only the most violent and psychopathic will do' (also no age limits, apparently)

Originally, quite probably due to the limited number of plastic vehicle kits, there were 2 vehicles everyone could use, The Land raider and the Rhino, and a third, the Battlewagon that looked distinctly un (what we would now consider) orky. They later ret-conned the imperial army, er, Imperial guard, sorry, Astra Militarum from being used by the imperial guard, apparently during the battle of Terra, Big Daddy said only Space marines could use them (likely due to attrition) and since he kicked the bucket and bought the farm at the same time, he never rescinded his order, and thats why its now only Space marines (and don't forget harlequins because everyone had to share) who can use land raiders.
Also related, the Land raider in the RT rulebook is made from card, miniature bases, and a couple of pens.

It did come as a kick in The teeth. My group back then was me with ORKS, mate with squats and some marines. Over night my ORK army was invalidated and completely changed into a 1 dimensional mob and the glorious squats just disappeared. Then we get these do gooder mecha types stealing other folks flying tank thing.

And Gert, compared to what was around at the time, they were pretty sleek.
