I hope it's all dogs.

Like, even the Witch Hunter is a dog wearing a stormcoat and a Solomon Kane styled hat.

Doggo box would be fun as part of Dawnbringer Crusades in a similar vein to the standalone Gryph-hound box, where they don't take away variety from the rest of the range because there is a rest of the range.

Underworlds tends to have these nice, characterful sculpts, but there are only so few in each warband that it feels like a waste not to explore characters that are not often seen in favor of some pets.

I like the idea of Witch Hunters having hounds to help them, but I will be disappointed too If we only get one Witch Hunter and the rest are dogs.
For that to work though we should get at least 5-6 dogs. Unless he is an Ogor Witch Hunter! In that case we can have just 4 dogs.

Been looking forward to a Witch Hunter band for Underworlds for a long time. I image we will see the Witch Hunter, a pair of dogs, and 2-3 henchmen.

Definitely up for a Witchfinder warband for Underworlds, and wonder if they'll be usable in Cursed City along with the Crimson Court.

I'm surprised we haven't had a 40K counterpart to Underworlds. Has there been any rumours in that direction?

Are the Witchfinders likely just a team or part of the next boxset for Underworlds? I'd be interested in them for conversion purposes so a standalone team would be welcome. The current Skaven team are rare as hens teeth (even from box spliters) and paying £65 just for a fraction of a box seems overkill. Paying for a few cards I don't need for the Witchfinders would be much more palatable.

It seems they're doing one season set, followed by two individual teams. If it is a Witchfinder warband then I'm confident it will follow Nethermaze as an individual purchase.

Cheers SamusDrake I don't follow Underworlds enough to know the release pattern. Good news there is precedent for it to be individual.

You're welcome!

That said its only just recently with Harrowdeep they started with shorter seasons, so its possible they might throw us off again. But yes, hopefully we won't be cursing when they announce the new team...

We've technically not had a Nethermaze team yet. Exiled Dead were a Harrowdeep team despite coming out the same time.

I wouldn't expect the next boxset/season until the end of October/early November.

Rivals of Harrowdeep was the first Nethermaze set outside of the starter.

Sorry, that came out as a bit of a "WELL ACTUALLY...". This was something that got discussed a lot in my local Underworlds group when some folks got their stuff.

No worries Kanluwen, as that is worth mentioning.

By the looks of it the Rivals of Harrowdeep set is taking over from Champions of Dreadfane(the two big factions of 2nd edition AoS). Hopefully they won't do the same with the two teams in Nethermaze, as that would be blooming crap.

I dunno, it seems like a trend of decreasing support for Underworlds. I feel like the card game-miniature game crossover is something that could sustain a strong community--if it already had one. As a small game without many players people just default to either a full skirmish game or MTG so they can have others to play with.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.

Underworlds seemed to be picking up a good amount of steam until Covid knocked it back down, but I think the real killer has been the price hikes. People either didn't mind getting into it because it was relatively cheap to grab the starter and their favourite team, and even if they wanted to be competitive and keep up with all the cards the cost of the teams weren't too eyewatering to justify it.

But as usual GW couldn't help themselves. The big reason I've heard was that it just became too expensive to keep up with the way they could in Shadespire, Nightvault and Beastgrave. It's not 40k, 30k or AoS where people will bite their tongue and buy it anyway, people will simply drop the non-core games as readily as they will non-GW ones.

At least one influencer strong hinted Rivals will be the default format and Champions is getting the axe next season. That might be their way of trying to steady the ship and appeal to a more casual audience who can just buy their favourite team and have at it, rather than be told they need to buy a £27 team they don't want just to get some cards out of it.

Hoping for full KT and Warcry previews, none of that "we're going to tease you with a couple models but not actually reveal full contents of the box" crap.

Not sure whats coming for Necromunda, but hopefully its a substantial preview and not just a one-model tease of the next gang coming to the game.

Can't be bothered with Underworlds or Blood Bowl. Underworlds for a while was doing some really neat minis, but the last "season" was a letdown for me, all the minis were very grounded and kinda "meh" for me and not as interestingly over the top as some of the warbands in the previous seasons were. They just lacked that extra je ne sais quoi that would take them from being ok sculpts to amazing sculpts.

Errr... they've been announcing the games at the same time they announce the events for several years now?

Is it decreasing support, or is it just that GW has decided that more expensive boxed sets and quicker seasons is a better business model that a slightly cheaper boxed set and lots of Warbands?

No, no they haven't - we've usually seen a WHC article announcing that there will be a Preview, often on a Sat/Sun, then during the following week we'd generally get confirmation of what games were in it.

This usually led to initial frenzied discussion on here as people span themselves up, only to get disappointed when they eventually heard that their game of choice wasn't getting a preview - an approach that fostered ill-will, if you will, while confirming the games being shown in the initial announcement cuts that off at the knees.

I'd need to go back and check, but I think that pattern holds up to the last preview event at the start of May.

You are wrong on this one. Here's the picture from the first announcement of Warhammer fest. It mentions all the specialist games that would be covered.

As for Underworlds, the game is not getting any less support. They have changed their structure to two launch boxes each year. Each box is followed by two warbands. That's 8 total per year which is the same as it has always been.
A very reliable leaker told tga the full schedule for this year months ago. The last two warbands are witchhunters with dogs and Khorne.
There will be a new starter box at the end of the year. Apparently next season will feature Tyrion's Lumineth.

Yeah, with the new structure it would have been very easy for them to halve the Underworlds release schedule, but that's not happened.

The Rivals of Harrowdeep box is just way to avoid having two core boxes available at once - if anything it's indicative of more support - the easy option would have been to just keep selling the Harrowdeep core alongside Nethermaze.

Surprised it's Amazons and not Chaos Dwarfs but I guess both were inevitable at some point.

Slann was my first thought, but given the skull, I'm siding with those saying Amazons.

GW seem determined not to give us Chaos Dwarfs. The first Hashut-themed AOS models are humans, afterall. And even in GW's biggest outlet of all things Old World, the Chorfs are still missing.

Facebook post says "Here's a team that really delivers, Jim" which sounds more or less subtle Amazon pun

The pandemic is what killed it here. We had a sizable group meeting regularly. Monthly tournaments, and plenty of players went every week. The pandemic hit and the store changed hours. It's closed on Sunday and Monday now, and Sunday was our game day. We discussed moving it, but no one wants to be there on a Saturday. Between that, the end of prize support, and the annual 10% or more price hike, it just evaporated.
