Okay, my entry is as complete as it's gonna get:

Spoiler:
"An intriguing example of the goblin's idiotic enthusiasm for battle is their so-called "magic mud attack". Goblins claim to have discovered a certain type of "magic mud"- black and thick, that caught fire with the lightest spark. I assumed this to be some type of foul pitch. They presumably realized they could reproduce our 'flaming arrows' attack by dipping their projectiles in the stuff. It is not difficult to see how their twisted logic progresses from there; if arrows can be dipped in pitch and ignited how much better it would be to dip an entire goblin and ignite it. An individual covered in the substance and set alight certainly gives opponents pause." Kuni Mokuna (Shadowlands Army Expansion, p5)

Shield’s looking good and I alike that it’s in Imperial colours, should counterpoint nicely with the rest of him.

Mostly, on my phone.

The Morgraur arises!

Summoned by Dagon's church, it crashes its way through Venice, consuming all, heedless of friend or foe.

This thing is massive, and was a lot work to build, pin and fill, but well worth it.

I also enjoyed making it... sticky. And compared to other folk, it's hardly nsfw at all

If (and it's a big if) I have time I will do its rather hapless handler (he regularly gets eaten in game) and maybe a couple of other Rashaar, but as it stands, I'm happy to call it done. I might take a scale shot as well?

Well, plenty of mistakes being made over here. Including having the "brilliant" idea to try to paint liquid in glass containers.

Looking good! Whatever is happening with that harpoon gun (?), it's really something. Wildly steam-techy.

A little progress. Time is slipping away, but her head is done and ready for attachment.

Almost there myself. Need to do a few more details (eyes mostly) and a lot of cleanup on the marines, but making good progress.

Bits have arrived and been used for more lost legionary characters... I've ended up painting the newly created conversions before the old ones, so I'll post proof pics for the ones I've done now. They're nearly fully painted and I'll upload pics soon... Still not sure which ones I'll be entering. At the moment, it looks like Night Lords, White Scars, Salamanders, Iron Hands and one other, but that could change in the next few days.

@Nevelon - that's a great looking Tyrant! Are you looking forward to the new nids? I think the screamer killer in particular looks great

@youwashock - really nice looking head! The skin tones are great and the shading on the hair is really nicely done, too!

The obvious answer is to wait until a day before the deadline, slap a quick and dirty paintjob on literally anything and regret it the moment you post the finished picture. Perfectly in theme.

Depending how quick the postman is I might actually be doing exactly this but with the perfect mini for this theme. One of Warmonger’s finest. Can’t wait.

All done. I'll put the photos in the spoilers, because there are a few.

Poor Ork pilot; he has landed on a bounty of free fuel and his aircraft is a burning wreck on the horizon. Some brave or foolish Orks thought they could race ahead of encroaching Tyranid invasion and steal all the abandoned loot. This luckless pilot thought he could push back their forward line and score some easy kills before being shot down. No worries, he just needs to convince when of his buddies to come down here. He'll share some fuel and they can 'share' their ride. Unfortunately the Tyranids are starting to show up. Hopefully that ride comes soon...

Keep up the good work everyone! Still have about a week left to go.

@Canceledapocalypse - Thanks. I like how he turned out. Swarmlords: for all your stabbing needs! I am looking forward to the new nids (and the marine half of the box) From the bug side I like the floating brain best. The SK is cool, but I think it’s trying too hard to walk in both the new aesthetics and the classic old school wrecking ball. And by trying to do both, falls a little short. He’ll still have a spot of love in the swarm though.

@Mr Nobody - Love what you’ve done with the nids! Ork is not bad either, but I wear my bias openly. Rooting for the little biters here. You do have 8 pics here. Would you mind trimming it down to 6 to meet with the guidlines? One problem we have to deal with when we have multiple models with so many cool details is to try to winnow down the number of pictures. Tossing a link for people who want to see more is great, but for the vote thread we need to keep it down to a reasonable level.

On to basing myself. Next up is flock, and the decals for the marines. Gaunts are just visiting as a side project. Trying to cycle as many of them across the workbench as I can before the new wave spawns.

Ok, finished photos. Everything pictured was done this month; I decided I wanted a bit more of a narrative to it, and a lone Shipwright taking on a mighty Morgraur single handed seems fitting - plus the way Carnevale has inadvertently taken over my hobby life is certainly a mistake on my part

Also, a literal mistake was made as I originally mounted the Shipwright on a 30 rather than 40mm base
Rest of the pics in the spoiler block
Spoiler:

In terms of "up to 5 things" it's really just the Morgraur and the Shipwright but I suppose you could consider "streets", "jetties" and "debris" as the 3 other.

A Protoss colony world

At long last, he has returned to once again lead his sons into battle. May I present Lion El'jonson, the returned Primarch of the Dark Angels:

As far as fitting this month's theme about mistakes being made, he fits it in multiple ways as I said when I posted my proof. He himself made the mistake of leaving Luther unattended on Caliban (after harshly chastising him, too) while he went out with most of his Legion to deal with his traitorous brothers and their minions. That didn't end well for him or Caliban and is why he's just now coming back. The Emperor possibly made the mistake of elevating Horus to the rank of Warmaster instead of Lion; who knows what might have happened if their roles were reversed (maybe everything would have gone well, maybe we would have had the Lion Heresy instead, we'll never know). Leman Russ made the mistake of starting a fistfight with Lion, and got himself knocked out for his trouble (rumors of a cheap shot by Lion are most likely propaganda spread by the Wolves...). And finally Angron made the mistake of underestimating the Lion and got his red a** banished back to the Warp. Plenty of mistakes have been made around this guy!

I had probably more fun painting this model than any other before, and not least because I've been waiting for this almost as long as I've been playing 40k. I'm very happy with how he turned out (indeed, my photography skills do not do the model justice), and consider him possibly my best work to date. In some ways I'm glad GW waited until now to release him, as it has given my skills time to grow to the point where I can actually do a good job on a model like this.

Lots of other great entries coming in as well. One more week to go, so y'all better get to it if you haven't finished yet!

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):

Running out of month folks. Don’t let the mistake being made be missing the deadline!

--

Finished up these guys. Those poor snipers are regretting every life choice that got them to where they are currently. And wondering where their backup support is. (Hint: they were eaten by a lictor back in February)

Swarmlord went pretty quick. Normal big monster scheme. He’s the 3rd tyrant kit I built. One winged, on on foot, both magnetized. Decided just to glue SL here. You can do more dynamic things when you don’t need to worry about compatibility.

The Eliminators were built from scraps. The kit gives you tons of extra guns, you just need some bodies to build them. So these guys were born from extra phobos marines, one an ETB. Which is why none of them are pointing their rifles; those bodies/guns were used elsewhere. These are the last of my arctic camo marines, at least until I pick up the new Lt. in the leviathan box.

But not the last of sneaky gits in snow, as next month I’ll be painting up some eldar rangers.

Here is my proof for the mini I've done this month.

First time I've posted in this forum in a long, long while. And the first time I've picked up a brush in a similar while.

So this model will fit the theme "Mistakes were made" as I bravely attempt to make a synthwave marine on a bike. (I'll be doing some other test models, but we are only allowed one model sadly!).

Attached is inspiration for the model. It will not be that good!

Automatically Appended Next Post:

I told you it wouldn't be that good.

(I'm thinking of basing an army off this colour scheme, and lots of One Source Lighting effects. Opinons / suggestions on that would be very useful!
This is very much looking for a "tabletop standard" here. Ie, aiming to look good from a metre away).

Edit: As per suggestion below, I've added another picture with two marines with a 'sunset' paint scheme. The picture didn't take too well, but you should at least get a general idea of the paintscheme. Basically from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOS3dbZcvM8 , but on a smaller model.
May make a better version of this for a later challenge.

You can enter up to 5 models. So add more if you want.

I think the effect you want would be better with crisper highlights. (Not that I can get them sharp myself) and maybe some smoother transitions for the OSL parts. “Tron” style is often seen on Tau, but could be done with marines.

I made the mistake of playing a bit of Slime Rancher 2 and getting a bit sucked in. However I think I still have time. I got the highlights and metals mostly done last night. Finishing the metals and doing cockpits tonight, then it’s on to details and basing.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Thanks for the feedback and information Nevelon!

I'm just getting back into painting, so definitely agree that my techniques could use improvement. I added two marines with a 'sunset' scheme, but I may have to wait until a later challenge for that. The pictures didn't really take.

Though thank you for the mention of 'Tron' Tau. Found out that some of those are done with "Montana" brand acrylic pens, so may investigate that as a way of doing highlights!

I'll jump in while I am home and have a free day.

Closest models I have on hand are these 2 guys. they are primed and dry-brushed. If it is ok, I'll submit these as Proofs, If not then I'll pass this round.

Guess the guy in the front fits this round's theme for many reasons, will re-prime him tomorrow once the green stuff and basing muck have settled.

That's a fantastic looking fortification, Cap'n!

Finished up my entry. Before The Wall/Beyond The Wall. Two white-box models from Kingdom Death, depicting their character Aya at various stages of her adventure. I don't think it is going well. Mistakes were most surely made.

Overall I am happy with how they have turned out. Good luck to all those still working and great job to all those who have finished!
