I like that idea of endless pox walkers, not sure my wallet likes it but I may have to buy some more walkers. Thanks for sharing that.

@ - yorkright. I also used the Tide of cultist strategem from chaos space marines by allying in a sorcerer and 3 heavy support units.

Tell you what. By using 2 command points to then recycle a mostly destroyed unit of cultists into their backfield it forces the hard decision to shoot up the pox walkers first and take a round or two of cultists shooting you. With prescience and veterans of the long war strategem, cultist shooting can get pretty nasty.

Cleaning mold lines on 60 pox walkers as well as priming them white. That’s what I have in order today.

Ouch, that's a lot of gribblyness. Nice converions, is the head on the cadian with the grenade from the Brettonian archers kit?

I honestly don’t know. Someone gave me a huge lot of bits. Many fantasy bits included. I just thought it looked like he had been bandaged. Someone should not have left zombies running around with grenades though. That was a bad idea.

So I have started to add non deathguard marines to my arm6 now that I have sold off nearly all of my Khorne Daemonkin to shaggyllama. I have a convention of being something of a fluff bunny, but want to be able to integrate other legion tactics into my army without violating the fluff by having red night lords Berzerkers or fielding a iron legion sorcerer not painted in the iron legion color scheme. I have done this recently but it did make me feel a bit uncomfortable. It just dosnt feel right to me.

The answer of course is a home brew chapter. I still love having a faction that allows for tons of converting and really stands out. I read about the Dark Wolves chapter a while ago when I pick picked up the Imperial Armor 13 supplement. Very little information is available about them besides one mention which gives me a open playing field. I’ve always hated the space wolves legion and the thought of bastardizing space wolves to serve chaos draws me to the project. They also have a ton of really well fleshed out kits which will enable great kit bashing opportunities. There are also only a few units I really want to add to my deathguard legion and they are primarily all infantry, primarily special characters, Berzerkers, assault troops like warp talons and The odd devastator team.

This mini I constructed from spare bits to test out the theme. Chest plates and pauldrons flesh out the basic model. I feel pretty good about how he turned out and will be using him as a Sargent. I plan to build up 10 Berzerkers with as much Viking feel as possible. They will have bear pelts and bare heads. I think I’m going to sculpt horns growing from their heads and paint them with very pale skin, bordering on white with blood running from their mouths and eyes.

Given that I want to run either alpha legion, iron legion or night lords I think this legion will fully satisfy my fluff and creative impulses. The paint scheme is fairly simple and what’s not to like about Viking space warriors that are not worshipping the corpse god. To this end I just bought the first loyalists i have purchased in 7 years. A box of grey hunters.

Any thoughts for color scheme etc.

Hey. A quick update. I was working on adapting this space wolves torso to fit on one of my dark wolves Berzerkers. I want to preserve the full measure of the feel of both space wolves and chaos space marines in this project. Do you feel that the berzerker helm is essential on a berzerker model. I’m not sure that it is but I want the feedback.

Since these are being used to represent space wolves that fell to Khorne and have fully embraced their berzerker legacy I’m not sure that they are but I also feel like they won’t scream berzerker without the helm. Feedback appreciated.

In other news. Shaving down the torso of a berzerker to fit with a shaved down space wolf torso was tricky work.

Nice work adapting the torso !

That is a tricky one regarding the helms, is there any specific head you would like to use in their place ? Giving them chainaxes and enough khorne marking could be a decent replacement, and worth trying on a test model to see the end result.

On a personal note though, of the two pics you posted, I prefer the berzerker helmet.

Another possibility is to cut/build some berserk helmet ears, and add them to a space wolf helmet...

Thanks. That’s sort of how I fell. The berzerker helm sort of denotes berzerker status to the model. I just feel like it also denotes world Eaters. That’s my biggest hold up. I want to denote savage but not a specific legion since these are technically fallen space wolves.

Good point. Although according to this page, World eaters start up with regular helms, and the ears only happen during the heresy, when starting worshiping khorne. I always saw these as a stylized khorne icon, so an attribute of followers of khorne in general (e.g. AoS blood warriors, Hounds of Abbadon in the chaos Codex), and not limited to world eaters.

My two cents anyway...

Thanks KernalTerror.

Though I have not quite finalized it I am leaning to keeping my heads unglued to the very end, I am leaning back to the Viking helm. Strangely I can’t wait for the loyalist bits to get here so I can continue to convert them.

So my bits came. I am busily converting up my warband. Depending on what legion trait I choose to use I will be naming them differently. Fluff being that they are a highly specialized warband with elite units who have been training into their specialties for years.

Dark wolves = warband composed of unique Specialist packs.

Alpha-wolves pack= specialists at infiltration. Utilize the alpha legion trait. Preempt the main host of dark wolves into battle.
Night Wolves pack = terror operatives who strike at night sowing confusion and fear. Utilize the night lords trait
Iron wolves pack = stolid warriors who form the vanguard of the warband. Cultists backed by heavy dark wolves armor.
Wolf Eaters pack = Berzerkers all who froth for the enemy blood.

I have been thoroughly enjoying the process of bastardizing the Space wolves into the force they always should have been. A force of Norse Berzerkers with black armor and bedecked with bits of their foes.

However, the heads are still giving me some pause. I decided against the berzerker helms. I’m just not a fan. However I am thinking that to make them stand out I will wrap the faces of each berzerker with barbed wire. Is this too much. Or should I stick with the space wolf heads to add a more recognizable space wolf theme. As is I am encorporating chest plates, pauldrons and converted space wolf backpacks with my Berzerkers.

Oooooh, barbed wire face ! This has potential I think ! Maybe a bit on the slaanesh side of things, but the paintjob will clear that out.

Yeah I think that’s where I’m heading too! Not literally of course.
However, I think I’m going to be using the space wolf heads. I just like the braided Viking look.

So in my spare time today I started work on the heads for my dark wolf Berzerkers. I went with the barbed wire bound around their faces. I also spent a while converting one of them so that he had a khornate chest plate with the belt of Russ and wolf tails hanging at his waist. It turned out ok. The goal is to have every berzerker marked with the mark of Khorne. After all, slannesh and Khorne would appeal most to Viking space marines right. Pretty happy with the results so far.

I plan to paint their faces very light and have gore drenching them below the wire and pouring from their mouths. They like to eat the dead after all.

Thought I would show you all what happens when you try to sculpt a wolf skull onto a horned helmet. You end up with a Minotaur skull! Not my best work. I wanted to use it for a character but have instead ordered the space wolf from the prospero box set to convert into my lord with lightning claws. Should work out just fine.

My apologies for the sideways post of my sorcerer. It uploaded that way from my phone. Not sure why.

Purchased 4 las Cannon long fangs on eBay for 20$. Going to convert them up so I can use them as Alpha Wolf havocs. So far it looks like my dark wolves will consist of

SKINWALKER - Sorcerer force sword mark of slannesh 98pts
Loki - Chaos lord jump pack twin lightning claws intoxicating elixir flames of spite Mark of slannesh 105pts
WENDIGO - Dark Apostle/exhalted champion powersword 74pts

EATERS OF THE DEAD - Sargent Grendel and 09 Berzerkers chain ax chain sword powerfist on Grendel 181pts

8 havok w/ 4 las cannons mark of slannesh 204 pts
2 units slannesh obliterators 390 pts

Tons of cultists and possibly the addition of a defiler, and a maulerfiend.

So I decided to use the skull helm after all. Having read up,some on the berserkers, they folllowed both wolf, boar and bear. It seemed to me that a shamanic champion like Wendigo (admittedly a Native American cannibal spirit) would benefit from being clad in bone and fur from all species. I’m pretty happy with the overall effect of the pieces together. Can’t wait till it warms up enough for me to begin priming. Right now it’s way to cold.

Received my Geiger fell hand model in the mail and have nearly finished converting it into my chaos lord. Still searching for a good name for him. Hmmmm. Grendel was my intended name for him but I think that’s going to be my berzerker champions name.

Comments and questions appreciated.

Been working on my Dark Wolves project. Today I completed Loki. He was the head of the Dark Wolves when they were a great company. Once they were sent to the eye of terror as penance, and fell to chaos, he retained his leadership of the now warband and returned to the imperium at the head of the Dark Wolves.

I’m pretty happy with how the Conversion turned out. The jump pack is one of Max Mini’s that I bought a few years ago. It’s larger than a traditional pack and looks like it could actually propel a marine through the air.

Loki has twin lightning claws and intoxicating elixir and flames of spite. 6 base attacks, reroll it wounds, and with the addition of veterans of the long war he should kill 10 marines on the charge. With the addition of prescience he should kill a few more.

@KernalTerror- Loki is going to be going in with the first wave. Not unlike Douglas Macarther. When he drops in to assault the front line he is accompanied by the Eaters of the Dead, 10 Berzerkers. He is also accompanied by The Skin Walker, former Rune priest, now enlightened sorcerer, and often a howling pack of daemonic warp talons.

@kavika0311 - thanks for stopping by. I will keep the updates running and appreciate the feedback.

This may be one of my favorite of the Eaters of the dead Berzerker squad. He just looks like he is really indulging himself. Charging headlong into the enemy. Braids blowing in the wind. The barbed wire wrap serves both to deflect petty attacks and also to aid in stimulating the berserk rage.

Loki, skinwalker, wendigo, Grendel and his squad. I still have to complete the last two berserkers and backpacks for some, but overall they are pretty much done. Tomorrow I hope to have the backpacks completed and the bases ready for priming.

When GW recently posted that survey of “how they are doing”, one question was what you loved most about the hobby. For me I really enjoy converting models, collecting and playing with them. For me painting has never been terribly high on the list. I simply am not that skilled at it. Despite working in this mini for an hour or so I feel it looks like complete crap. Especially when you take a photo and enlarge it. Ohh the horror.

Despite all that, the first of the Eaters of the dead is about an hour from completion. I am going to do the skin in shades from Karak stone, working my way up to a very light shade and then going over it with reikland fleshshade. Then fine rivulets of blood will be painted down the face and gore covering the ax and the sword.

Only 9.5 left to go to complete the Eaters of the Dead.

That's a bit harsh, I think once you add some focal points such as the flesh it should lt will be a decent looking berzerk.
Plus, the skull's bone color looks very nice.

Added the flesh tones this morning and then dull coated it. It looks better finished and with natural lighting. I actually looked at lighthouses on eBay. 24$ isn't bad.

I'm actually pretty happy with this overall.
