Yeah. Dragon Age, Mass Effect, the Elder Scrolls series, these are all games that guarantee you'll be getting a lot of hours out of them, and they have replayability because in each case you can go back and do things differently than you did before. And even if games like these are hard to come by now, with boring repetitive crap like the Call of Duty series taking focus, thanks to services like Steam we can easily acquire older games that we might have missed out on before, like Deus Ex in my case. (Really looking forward to Human Revolution, I hope it's awesome)

Loki's example is flawed.
He used the multiplayer game's pricing , but leaves out multiplayer's game time ( he used the single player's 7-8 hour example ) which then is wrong since those games are again CHEAPER than a tactical squad.
And you have to buy the console + the television ( HD if you're actually going to get anything out of your games), or the computer (or both, if you want to play all varieties of video games).
Average console? US $300 (to get 2 controllers and a hard drive, anyway).
Average "cheap" HD TV? US $650.
Average "cheap" gaming computer that can handle the newest games as they come out? US $1250 + upgrades over time to keep up.
Average new game? US $60. Not to mention the nickle-and-dime process of renting for trial purposes.
Add speakers, headsets, add-on controllers for racing games or music simulators, expansions and collectors edition items, etc.
I can buy 6 or 7 Warhammer/Warhammer 40k/Warmachine armies for that money and assemble, paint, and play them for years. Most people with decent painting skills can go online and resell them for a lot more than they spent on them too. How much will I resell an old console or computer for? Yeah...about 10% of it's original value.
Most games lose replay value after a few weeks. Only people who do nothing but play those video games actually remain static in the multiplayer community for months on end. Those players make it far less enjoyable for new people who come online, get pwned, and just go back to single player or try a new game.
Your argument is just...well...sad. You are basically trying to scream and cry about GW on principle, but you have no logic whatsoever.

Wait, did you seriously just say that an argument lacked logic... because they didn't include the cost of a TV in with the cost of their game system? Or that a proper comparison involving non-console games should include the cost of the PC?

Thanks for taking the time to post those, I know that between taking a good photo and uploading it---it can actually take a bit.
Those look pretty bad. You see mold release bubbles, incomplete casts from lack of vents, parts of the mold breaking off, etc. Anyone know where their resin casting is taking place? Is it China or UK proper?

Hmm. I was handed a Urien Rakarth mini to paint for a commission earlier today. Other than the mold-line flash (which falls off if you look at it funny while holding an x-acto knife) I'm having a hard time finding the horrors I've been reading about.
Perhaps GW cherry-picked the blisters that they sent to Orlando (because we're all so very sexy down here). Looking at the others in the shop, I found no glaring deformities there either (besides the sticker price on the Hive Guard).

I for one like the resin over the metal, I have hated metal mini's for along time. I do like the heft but not the assembly, just wish I would have waited before buying castellan crowe.

She already finds the hobby baffling (despite my best efforts) but to countenance paying £10-£15 for a single model? Even if it were sculpted out of solidified unicorn tears, it would make the parting of money difficult.
I know its trite and a terrible cliche but if I were 11 years old again, I would be saying 'feth this, I'm getting an xbox game instead'. Not sure how GW can justify growth in the business at these prices, quality of casts notwithstanding. Its fething plastic for crying out loud....
According to GW, video games core console + game = $500, which you can have warhammer full army for that same price.
And each game you play for 1 month before you dont need it anymore , but warhammer you can play it forever.
Which makes no sense to me. How do they assume that?
Maybe i can play my video game forever and i get bored of my warhammer army in 1 month?
Ohh~ see what i did there GW?
I have a game on my PC I've played on and off since 1994.

If I was handed a metal or plastic mini that looked like that, it would definitely be an "ugh" moment. But as it is...5-10 minutes later:
That stuff is barely attached. Where as with plastic you'd have to carve it off and take a good portion of the detail with it in the process...this just flakes off.

necron2.0 wrote:Adding to the general comments ... yeah. I was in my LGS today, and I noticed they had some of the new Fine Cast minis for sale. On a lark, I bought the Lelith mini and brought it home to compare against a metal one I bought a month or so ago. Basically, the detail is mushy, there is a lot of flash to contend with and (as I had expected from the start) bubbles ... lots and lots of bubbles. I've uploaded images showing a side by side comparison. The minis are both straight out of the blister with no clean up. In image 2 I've highlighted spots where details are almost entirely missing. In short, this is in no way an improvement over the metal.

I posted pretty much this same thing over at BoLS and got a score of apologists jumping down my throat for suggesting there may be a problem. It's amazing how people can become so vested in something that they allow misguided loyalty to override common sense. For the record I do believe GW will eventually get their act together, but they should have known better than to release this garbage. The problems they're seeing now are the same sorts of things other manufacturers solved 10+ years ago. Recently I purchased ten different resin minis from other manufacturers and none of them had bubbles and deformities. Heck, even the Forgeworld minis I've purchased aren't like this. With the expertise available from Forgeworld, GW should have had much more to show for themselves.

Here's an update - I sent a link to my blog over to the Customer Services guys at GW. Anyway, I'm being sent a new Captain Stern. No argument, just a shipping notification, nice and efficient. Big kudos to Customer Services.
So, it seems that GW Customer Services also agree this level of fixing is not really acceptable for a premium product. Let's see if the replacement is up to par. I'm also quite happy that the CS department is on the case.

Im sorry but this is not acceptable. Isnt it wise before launching a product worldwide to test it thoroghly? Why place a product on the market if its standards are significantly flawed, I dont think its too much to ask for when ur paying alot of money for a single mode,l the product has to equal its cost with quality.
