I don't know their actual dimensions but would a landing craft model be a good place to start? They come in several lengths and scale.
There are also a couple different cheap toy action figure subs. Though they would be more chubby than a U Boat.

I don't mind chubby actually, the reason why I'm not fully sold on the subs idea is because it doesn't look like models would actually be able to walk in corridors due to the width (or lack of). landing craft is a great shout, could just build a roof on it.
Would I be looking at a 1/35 landing craft realistically?

If you find one let me know! I've been looking for a landing craft that could carry a rhino/chimera for a long time.
I have some storage containers I plan to convert... some day.
The Toy thread also has a lot of good ideas.

A 1/35 Higgins LCM3 looks like it should hold a rhino, the problem seems to be getting hold of the model though. This is all based on the Rhino being 7.5cm wide still, not sure if the measurements I have are the newer model or older model width.
Checking out the toy thread now! Thanks again for your help.

This should be wide enough for one also

Think I've found one, it's a toy but as the convo is happening here about it, here's the link, ships worldwide, and not that bad a price: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMC-1-32-scale-WWII-Higgins-Boat-Landing-Craft-/353374860128?_trksid=p2385738.m4383.l4275.c10

A while back BoLS had an article with affordable 1/48 scale U Boats. It was waterline up, and was made of injection molded Polystyrene. At the time I thought of getting one, but never did.

Yeah I read that yesterday, the landing craft model and toy set I think will hold a rhino, when I was saying about it's width of the rhino, it was because I didn't know if those measurements were mk.II or mk.III rhino measurements.

The tarps and stowage bags would all fit really well onto some Leman Russes or similar Imperium tanks. Nice spot.

I wish I could take the credit but some guy named Blanche recommended using WWII kits to dress up 40k kits back in the 80s

Incoming Huey from Rubicon.
There's other Hueys out there of course but this is 1/56 so more or less the right scale for 28mm.

It’s says for renovation, so hopefully they reopen quickly. With the pandemic it is a great time for some small businesses to reinvent/rejuvenate themselves as the foot traffic is slow anyway. Automatically Appended Next Post: Never mind, read the link

Sadly, it might be a little small for IG. While they are about equivalent to 1/56 in height, they are more like 1/35 in width, so unless these things have been squashed to match 'heroic' proportions, the doors, seats, etc. will be too thin to look right next to 40k stuff. On the other hand, 40k vehicles have ridiculous and impractical proportions anyway, so as long as you paint the windows so you can't see inside, they might look OK.

Some news about Squadron models
http://www.squadron.com/
We are excited to announce that squadron.com will be returning, under new ownership and management! Squadron will be back!!!
As most of you know, MMD-Squadron Holdings, LLC (The parent company of squadron.com and Military Model Distributors) filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy earlier this year. After 53 years of providing a place for modelers around the world to purchase their new and most favorite models and supplies, the end looked like it was upon us. This was a travesty we could not let happen!
Knot Models is a hobby merchandiser founded in 2016 that primarily does business in the Amazon Marketplace. Knot Models was founded by Chris Decker, a 20 year industry veteran who has built up and sold both hobby retailers and manufacturing companies over the years. Some of you might be familiar with Trident Hobbies, which became FreeTimeHobbies.com, and the model lines, Midship Models and Yankee Modelworks. Chris founded or was instrumental in bringing these lines to the marketplace.
In April of 2021, Knot Models purchased the business assets of MMD-Squadron holdings from the bankruptcy court in Texas. We have been working tirelessly since then to rebuild and replace the systems that squadron.com needs to operate. We have also been working to source inventory from manufacturers and distributors around the world. Our goal is to relaunch squadron.com in early June of 2021 with over 15,000 products available for you to purchase!
As we get closer to our launch date and have more details, we will be sending out more information. We are excited and eager to join you in this new chapter of Squadron.com!
Until then, Happy Modeling!
Chris Decker
