I'm Irish, we have no fond memories of the British Empire. I'd love some Hussier heads but Vics only has Picklehems and the peaked caps will tie them to the rest of the regiment

No worries, just explaining my irrational bias against certain helmets for my toy soldiers

I got a mess of Praetorians on clearance years ago and promptly lopped off their heads and replaced them.

A buddy of mine painted them as Barbados police, I wish I'd thought of that.

Turns out Anvil does have some, just under an odd name. And only 2 of 7 have the crow head (tip of the hat to the 40k converter group on FB).

http://anvilindustry.co.uk/hooded-heads-masquerade?search=Hooded%20Masquerade%20Heads&fbclid=IwAR3hrjQQ-QJijhBRQr14vo5grksfW6QeFYKNNEzJTkF94ZxMU3bt95htrEo

But looking at the Delaque they all have gas masks on their coats so the crow mask would be silly, well sillier than even normal 40k.

So now I'm thinking turn 5 Delaque into a counts as Krieg Quartermaster (a grim dark medic) and 5 more into another Scion Squad. And a Taurox as their ambulence.

But that is down the road, much to do and paint first

I'm scrapping the Plague Doctor idea, I'd have to cut off the gas masks for them to fit and while it MIGHT work it probably won't and these are some really nice models.

But for now my focus has to be horses.

F'ing horses.

Not sure if we discussed it here, or if I was passing the tip along to someone on another blog (the vagaries of age).

When I was doing Napoleonics, and had metric crap-tons of horses to do, a method I was taught that produced a fairly fast, easy and decent looking result was:

1) Thoroughly basecoat the horses white (dark grey if you want white horses, instead of various shades of brown)

2) Cover them completely with oil-based brown paint of a shade you want to consider your 'top' layer (burnt umber, umber, burnt sienna, others)

3) Let sit for a few minutes

4) Gently/lightly wipe off the excess paint- almost a very light buffing motion, with a clean soft cloth (t-shirt material works admirably). Rub more where you want lighter color, less where you want darker.

All the creases and low areas will automatically be darker. If you end up with the barrel of the horse too light, just dab some paint back on and wipe some off again. All that is left is to detail the faces as much (or little) as you want, paint the hooves and the saddle furniture and add the odd blaze, star or roaning as you want. I've actually been able to achieve a decent Appaloosa leopard pattern look on a white and grey horse by doing a general wipe over the hindquarters and then using a Q-tip to 'rub' in small spots where I wanted the white undercoating to show through.

I could knock out a regiment of horses in an evening and still have time to paint something else (20-30 horses).

There are probably other methods that are easier, faster, cleaner and that don't involve oil-based paint, though.

Good luck!

So, like all right thinking Guard players I am constantly annoyed at how the heavy weapons box give you 15 guns, but only enough crew for 3, and enough stands for 6. So I started a little project I call "Everything But the Oink" to use all of it.

Also 15 (!!) years ago or so I picked up some bits to make servitors for a planned adeptus mech army.

And 15 years later I finally got around to using them.

Yay me.

Chaos Marauders+Land Raider Gunners+spare heavy weapons (and 3 of the Grenade Guantlets from the Ogryn set because they were too perfect)+skitarii bits =

Penal Legion heavy weapon servitors!

Lobotomized cyborg criminals given a chance to serve the Emperor's Law through crowd suppression and other essential duties. Count as normal HWTs but so much fun to do.

The 2 little dudes are the technomats who keep some free will and direct the teams. And make up for the fact I ran out of Marine torsos

Coming distractions...

So I'd planned to get these Yamato Rejendra ships to use as super heavy transports, but while I was waiting the price went from$10 to $30

So I'll be getting something even better. What's dumber than a flat top aircraft carrier IN SPACE? How about a triple deck aircraft carrier IN SPACE.

And what's dumber than a triple deck aircraft carrier in SPACE? How about a tandem six-deck carrier!

So some fleet additions for next month.

I'm sure the physics supports a six-deck, flat top aircraft carrier in space. As Ash tells us in the movie Army of Darkness: "Your primitive mind can't comprehend the forces involved here. Chemistry is full of compounds and elements 'n stuff like that."

The existence of such a craft implies it's reality, not so?

What I love most about it is the Helicopter pad at the end of the take off strip . One would think you wouldn’t try to take off vertically directly in front of where jets are trying to launch themselves . I remember Shasho, doing up one of these a while back .

Man I HATE the Van Saar Kit. A basic rifleman should NOT need 11 pieces (before you get into shoulder pads, grenades etc) and if they do need 11 parts, can't there be some posing options?

But still, the results are gorgeous.

Ah who'm I kidding.

Broke out the Fortress Precinct for finishing and started painting.

Added a third 'circuit court' as well.

They'll count as an Aquilla Strong Point and 3 bunkers if they ever get used.
