I agree that she's almost certainly a wildling but I can't see her being Val (or Dalla). Can't think why she'd be wearing bones and carrying a skull. I'd have gone more along the lines of her being a generic Wildling Woods Witch attachment or whatever name they give them.

She meets the description of Val down to the Weirwood face on her shoulder and bone fastenings on her clothes. It is of course possible that she's some other wilding loosely based on Vals description.

Ah, I'd clearly not remembered the detail about the Wierwood carving (been a long time since I've read them and to be honest I can't think why I'd remember that detail anyway...). May very well be her then. Still can't explain the Skull or the skeletal decoration (bit more than 'bone fastenings IMO'). That said, probably more likely than not it's Val now you've mentioned the carving.

I just heard from a friend at Gencon who went into this one with a fair bit of cynicism, that said the folks demo'ing and CMoN really won him over.

Apparently the NCU, and unit-attachment systems add a lot of nuance to a very lean/simple rule set.

Supposedly if the game does well they've already got design work done on 5-6 more full army lists as well, including the more fantastical elements of Westeros.

In the end I threw $1 at the KS in case I wanted some cheap terrain, but i'm thinking there might be something to do this one, if it finds a bit of an audience.

Still, man... Spring is going to be a blood-bath. This, Star Wars Legion, Fallout, and a recently launched Necromunda, all vying for miniature game sales, alongside a now renewed 40k.... I don't envy new players trying to build a group/playerbase for XYZ.

I'm in for Song of ice and fire, Fallout and if it is compatible with Imperial Assault figures then maybe starter for Legion as I already have all IA releases including multiple of all the early troop boxes.

Someone attending Gencon asked about the models so can now confirm who they are.

(all taken from the main unofficial facebook group)

Top left is Qhorin Halfhand. Top right is a Freefolk Thenn warrior. Bottom left is Sam. Bottom right is Gilly.

Left is Cold hands but they are resizing his elk to make it bigger. Middle is Val. Right is a generic mounted ranged Freefolk model.

The catapult is a Nights Watch unit.

They also confirmed that the Nights Watch will be a dedicated faction rather than mercanaries. No word on whether the Free Folk will be part of Night Watch, independent faction or mercenaries.

As mush as I enjoy the night's watch and the wildlings, I would much rather establish the other major factions in the War of the 5 Kings first. Stark and Lannister were a good choice. Now we need Baratheons (both Renely and Stannis), the Greyjoys, and the Tyrells (though their position is slightly different since they never had a player from their own house for the throne). As fun as it is to have white walkers and dragons, I think it would annoy potential players if CMoN skipped their houses after just doing the Starks and Lannisters.

Just my two cents, but I hope the original rumors of a Baratheon vs Greyjoy/Tyrell starter are true.

I think baratheon (encompassing the tyrells) and just grey joy would be fine for the other kings. I don't think we need a stannis faction. Stannis faction is essentially a merc faction with a couple of knights attached anyway. Until Renly died and gave him the stormlords. So Renly forces work for both.

so the pictures I saw of this had minis and tokens/cards all cramped on a very small space. This is a big turn off for me. I'd rather see this played over a 6x4 table with some scope for movement. The minis look great so I may just grab them and adapt different rules if I don't like the system. Hopefully it scales up to a larger table.

Standard game is 4x4, larger is 6x4 the small tables from Gencon where just demo tables to give a quick overview as they can't set up full sized games on the display floor.

This is just a demo table at reduced size.

It would be pretty hilarious if the game was played on a table that size. "I'm going to charge my guys through the political board here on the side and move 0 inches because everything had to deploy in melee to begin with to fit on the table"

Renly died before fighting a battle, Stannis' forces have fought in two major ones so far plus the Battle on Ice teased in the next book. Baratheon bannermen figures could do double duty for either king but saying Renly deserves a faction and Stannis doesn't is silly.

I would be very surprised if House Baratheon didn't include Robert, Stannis and Renly in order to give you the option of fighting battles throughout the timeline of the books or making up your own alternate scenarios.

Their timeline for the game starts from Robert's death so he's unlikely to feature. (this is also the reason Lady was removed from Sansa's sculpt as she was already dead at this point).

Considering the Starks get Ned, I'm sure all of the brothers will be featured. If we get Robert, I hope we also get Rhaegar.

You could probably just put Renly at the head of the Tyrell army instead as they made up the bulk of his force, then Stannis can have the Baratheon force.

Their timeline starts immediately after Robert's death, they've been pretty firm with that so far so I doubt he'll be involved (or Rheagar).

They did though (I think...) confirm that the license did theoretically extend into 'historical' events within the series so Robert's Rebellion could feature. Not for a very long time though. It's not like they've not got much material just from the main narrative.

So tempted to buy when it hits retail.
Hopefully a skirmish rule set down the line.
So many models at once might be a bit overwhelming to buy and paint.

Miniature Market have the Starter on preorder for $119.99 (MSRP $150) - 20% discount

https://www.miniaturemarket.com/cmnsif001.html

That would make unit and hero boxes $28 if MSRP stays $35, at $30 on KS they do include a KS exclusive sculpt - there's not too much difference here not nearly as much as MD at retail.

There's $316 worth of boxsets (at discounted retail price) in the pledge level plus tokens and a few other heroes (some KS exclusive) that aren't in any boxes yet.

So these are production miniatures

Jealous that Horus is Warmaster

Hmm.. that has me worried a bit. The picture isn't the greatest, so it might just be that, but the details looks very "muddied".

It also seems like they are molded in one piece, with the base even. That doesn't bode well..

Alpharius? Never heard of him.

I wouldn't be too worried. I just opened up part of my Massive Darkness shipment and I am really impressed with how far they've come with one-piece plastics. No one will confuse them with top-tier GW, but they're really excellent, especially for the KS price.

If it's the standard CMoN plastic, it would require either a coat of paint or studio lighting to photograph properly, so those shots are probably not a good representation of final detail.

Then again, if it really is CMoN plastic, I would suggest keeping your expectations average.
