Team is ready to BOO-gie. Quick, easy, and it works. Can't complain. New Necron looks very good. Can't wait to see all those Bladeguard done.

@Gobert: I was shocked by how good the names on the bases looked, I have actually gone back and done it for my Necromantic Undead team as well. Stay tuned for Lions!

@Theo: Scooby Doo was certainly the inspiration. Yeah, you guys in the States have been hit hard by the production slow down/shipping issues caused by Covid. As long as some fool does not block up the Suez Canal we should be fine

@Viterbii: I mean for the Army Of The Dead it is the canon in film scheme, no need to feel bad about it. The Pariah Nexus boxed set is still a swizz price wise so it was probably best to get stuff completed.

@YWS: Thank you YWS, I will hopefully get the Bladeguard done next month.

So a few days early, but here is my March in Review. I may well get some stuff done in the remaining 3 and a half days but we shall see. So what have I done since last time?

First up are a Blitzer and Bodyguard for my Imperial nobility Blood Bowl team, nothing amazing but they will do. I also got my 2 turn markers done:

I also got my Flayed Ones done. Full disclosure, I have never really been a fan of the concept of Flayed Ones in the Necron army but I actually enjoyed painting these. I wanted a dirtier, rustier look than most of my Necrons and with the added gore I think I pulled it off:

So now onto my Lions. First up is the Captain with Master Crafted Heavy Bolt Rifle. Initially I was unsure of this sculpt but I much preferred it in hand:

I also painted up a couple of dreadnoughts, they look tiny next to the Captain!

Ironclad on the left and Venerable on the right:

Finally is my Stormspeeder Hammerstrike, my rechargeable camera batteries died after one shot so more photos will have to wait until next time:

So all told 32 miniatures (should i not do any more this month) for the month and 79 painted for the year so far:

Thanks for looking.

Another fine monthly haul Listentomewarriors. Your Lions continue to impress and I'm enjoying seeing your takes on the Bloodbowl minis. That primaris landspeeder is a lot bigger than I thought, it's basically a flying Rhino now

Another great haul of minis. The Captain really is massive, early the size of the dreads! so much for scale creep! I like the leathery look of the skin I the flayed ones, works well with their more weathered look

Cheers everyone, a bit more progress. First up are a few more Stormspeeder shots:

I also got my Heavy Intercessor Squad done, I am really happy with these Chonky boys:

Finally I have painted my first ASOIAF miniatures of the year. Truth is the new releases have dried up for the game and I have been waiting for this set for ages, so long in fact that I pre ordered it 3 times from different retailers by mistake...when the 2nd copy showed up I was shocked and by the time the 3rd one arrived i just felt like an idiot. Anyway, here in reflective glory is The Mother Of Dragons:

These 3 boys are great little sculpts, I still have Daenarys to paint but the three dragons are done:

Drogon:

Rhaegal:

Viserion:

So I still need to fully base these on their movement trays, but they are nearly there. And a group shot of the 3 young dragons together:

So hopefully this is the kick in the butt I need to get more ASOIAF done.

As ever, thanks for looking.

Love the barrel heat distress! Also great work on the dragons. Hopefully they pick up the pace soon, there's still several really cool factions for them to do!

Those dragons are cool, how big are they? The heavy intercessors look cool, as does the speeder. Will the speeder pilots be getting shoulder transfers or is the angle too awkward?

@Gwyn: The Greyjoys are next!

@Gobert: I will get you some scale shots later once I have had my post night shift sleep. But they are in the early stages of dragon hood so not too big. I had not even considered transfers on the crew, but it should be doable.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Here are a few scale shots Gobert, the dragons themselves are on 50mm bases. Here they are next to a Primaris marine:

And alone with the biggest dragon Drogon:

I also got Daenarys painted up to complete the set, she is smaller than most minis I paint and the facial detail is not the best but I am content with her:

And here she is with her boys:

I also got their movement trays painted up:

So now I am chomping at the bit for the weekend. Who knows what violent delights will be delivered?

I have a stake lined up for dinner...fangs for looking.

Cheers for the scale shots, they are quite dinky compared. Not much bigger than the marine if they weren’t dragging their rocks around the battlefield . With Daenerys being so small, isn’t she supposed to be a teenager in the books?

Great work on the dragon trio. How much stuff have you painted for that game so far? Must look pretty cool all together. Lions look stunning, as per the norm.

Dragons are looking good. Quite dinky, but nicely painted.

Cheers everyone, they ae young dragons at this point. The odd thing is I also picked up the Freefolk War Mammoths, and they are huge.

@YouWasShock: I think I am close to 200 miniatures painted for ASOIAF, a group shot may be in order!

Anyway, I was lucky enough to pick up one of the most controversial releases of recent time Cursed City. The miniatures in the set are stunning, what GW can now do with push fit minis is bordering on the ridiculous and obscene.

I thought I would tackle some of the bad guys before the heroes. Because they are Undead yes, of course, they are purple. First up are my first 5 members of The Ulfenwatch, some very cool looking skellibobs. I really wanted to limit the colour palette on these so there are only 4 or 5 colours on them, but I really like the result.

The Kosargi Nightguard are probably my favourite minis in the set, and I am delighted with how they turned out:

I also blasted out a quick ASOIAF unit in the form of the Bolton Flayed Men mounted unit, nothing flashy but it does the job:

Thanks for looking.

Good job on the WHQ undead, I particularly like the corroded, bloody axe on the second Kosargi, that's some great weathering!

Assembled most of the CC minis myself over the last days and yeah, they're really 'boutique' quality sculpts - shame that GW messed up the release :|

A fantastic haul as ever. The Cursed City goings on are just weird, but the minis are cool. I agree on the ability of GW to craft great push fit minis is getting ridiculous. I’d maybe even go a step further and suggest some are better than the multi-pose kits (Space Marine Heroes spring to my mind)

@MobileSuitRandom: Yeah, they really did botch the release. Not sure why they have not really attempted any damage control either.

@YWS and Gwyn: Cheers gents.

@Viterbi: This is your lucky day!

@Gobert: Totally agree, just a shame that the trade off for more dynamic poses is often the loss of modularity and options.

Anyway, I have had a fair crack at more Cursed City goodness in the past few days. First up is the dull stuff in the form of the "mysterious objects". Here contrast with additional highlights is your friend:

Close up on low key the best sculpt in the set:

I also got 3 bat swarms done:

The Deadwalker Zombies are far from my favourite sculpts but I soldiered on and got 5 of them done, they are just far too busy for my liking:

But now onto the far more interesting characters.

Watch Captain Halgrim looks stunning, love the sculpt. Just remind him how he looks next time he pulls you up on the state of your armour:

I also painted up the Vargskyr, I started with a Gulliman Flesh Contrast over Wraithbone and then just used Volupus(?) pink, Gore Grunta Fur and some highlights and painted up the claws and teeth. Chomptacular:

Finally is Radukar The Wolf, just really enjoyed painting him. Tied him into my scheme with a purple cloak but had to replicate those billowing red trousers:

All told that is 23 miniatures out of the set of 60 painted, I think I will try and paint a hero or two next.

Thanks for looking.

Is 'Eavy Metal Calling?

UK

This Cursed City stuff is looking incredible, you're really nailing the tone on the undead especially.

Haven't really followed the release closely, but certainly enough to know I wanted a set, assume it'd be available on a regular basis like the other Quest games were and then be slightly miffed when that turned out not to be the case... That may or may not have anything to do with the number of skeletons I've had the 3d printer cranking out over the last week!

Those dragons up the page are cool as well, as a DnD obsessive it's nice to be reminded that dragons in other settings can be a lot more interesting in terms of colour palette than the typical DnD metallic/chromatic lineup.

That zombie skin tone is beautiful, what's your recipe for that? I have a few zombies coming up at some point and I would love for them to have that skin tone!

Great skin tone, and I too would be interested in a recipe! Your work on the Cursed City bunch is a joy to live vicariously through, and I always find it interesting to see what happens to my view of particular sculpts etc. when I see them 'out in the wild' rather than in the GW Studio style only

I’ve followed your lead on some of the SMH stuff and done some mild kitbashing. I feel they’re more dynamic than the standard TacMarines. Some work is more involved than the norm though.

Great job on the cursed city stuff. Even your work on the “dull” stuff is great, and even faster! The weird rat thing is pretty cool, but the giant were-bat dude is really impressive. Good luck with the heroes, not that you need it!

New Vurgoyle/Varghulf thing is pretty dang sweet. Some of those minis are Mordheim page art come to life. You're doing a great job with them.

Not seen you around in a long time Paradigm, how are you keeping? Are you still at Uni? If so the last year must have been odd.

@Gwan/ IGtR:
The Zombie flesh is simple. Plaguebearer flesh Contrast over wraithbone. Then a mediumed down red wash over the face. Any raised areas are picked out in Ogryn Camo which, at least to my eye, matches the Plaguebearer flesh exactly.

@Gobert: Weird rat thing? Do you mean the white zombie cat?

@YWS: Mordheim had to be a big influence somewhere right? I was unsure of the Not Varghulf at first but love him now.

Work progresses, I am doing some rat swarms then onto heroes. No idea which yet though.
