Sadly I just don't think swarm lists are viable anymore. With the prevalence of thunderfire cannons, wyrvans, SMS, even ignore cover lasguns that swarm will get ripped to shreds before it makes it close. Even if they did make it they will be striking at I1 if your opponent has any sense due no grenades. I feel like you would be better off with one large brood of hormagaunts backed by termagants and tervigons if you want to keep the swarm feel.

I think you are fatally short on Anti-armor, and likely short on AA. I'd take a look at adding a third Brood of Zoeys, or even better a Veno Brood (x2= 90 pts) You should be exelent at taking Objectives, but you can't really hold them (IB) If you trim some Hormigaunts, you can add in almost anything you please, so you have options. On the plus side, you will catch folks by suprise. At low point levels Big Bugs tend to dominate , so you might get better results if you drop some Hormies, and toss in a Carnifex, or Tyranofex. (or two )

That would solve the AT, and AA issues by a long shot. (drop 2 Broods, 320 points, add 2 Dakkafexen, 300. Buy Hive commander. ) (example 2, Buy a Tyranofex, Adrenal, Hive, 200, put Regen on all thre Big Bugs, 90, buy Hive Commander (optional), spend the last 10 on something nice. (or put Toxic on all three Big Bugs as well) )

I'd say you're 85% of the way to a good build, you just need to "tweak" it. Oh and you have 40 unspent, I didn't even consider that. I'd find 5 more, and buy a Veno. Swarms really need a Veno, or two.

While a swarm army can be appealing to have an intimidating, large army on the table, as mentioned it may not be very viable nor enjoyable to setup 100+ models and then remove handfuls after the first turn. I would suggest the following:

Give at least one Flyrant the Hive Commander option (both if you want)
Drop at least one brood of Zoanthropes (or both) as most high strength weapons will focus on them if they ignore your Flyrants and be easy First Blood targets; or make one unit of 3 and use to hold Synapse with a brood of Hormagaunts for midfield objectives (Termagants and/or Tervigons would be better for sitting).
Drop one brood of Hormagaunts.
Add a Trygon Prime and send Hormagaunt(s) units behind enemy lines while your Flyrants + everything else advances across.

So...I was thinking about your list while I ate lunch, and I jotted down some ideas about how I would build it. Hopefully it'll give you some ideas that are useful.

HQ: Winged Dakka'rant, Hive 240
HQ: Winged Dakka'rant, Hive (Electro bugs on both) 240

Troops: Hormigaunts, x15, Toxic 120
Troops: as above
Troops: as above
Troops: as above Total 480 on Troops (so far)

Elite: Zoey Brood: x2 100
Elite: Zoey Brood, x1 50
Elite: Veno Brood, x2 90

Heavy: Carnifexen: Dakkafex Brood, x2, or two "solos" 300

I think that adds to 1500...

The "alternative Build is as above, but the Heavy slot is Tyranofex, Adrenal, Thorax Hive (Electro bugs) 200
This leaves 100 unspent. Me? I would buy a Warrior Brood: x3, Cannon for 100 points.

Or you could toss Regen on the Tyrano, and buy a Brood of Termigants with the left overs, less Synaptic support, but very playable.

Or just buy a Big Brood of Gaunts They all should play well.

Swarm lists generally benefit from footrant. It is survivable simply from the mass of bodies in the way.

Generally with nids you have to use all 6 troop slots for a swarm list. Another thing to think about is we have alot of troop options becuase they are generally a bit mono tasked with Warriors being the obvious exception. You can build Warriors to be about what you want them to be, just your going to pay for it.

In 6e I was generally running 1 footrant or Prime,2 guard, 1 flyrant, 3 zoanthrope, 2 termi brood, 1 hormi brood, 1 warrior brood, 2 stealer broods, 1 shrike brood, 2 fex, and an Exocrine in 1850-2000 point lists.

How about this?

Hive Tyrant (Wings, 2 Twin-linked Devourers with Brainleech Worms) – 230

Zoanthrope Brood (2 Zoanthropes) – 100
Zoanthrope Brood (2 Zoanthropes) – 100

Hormagaunt Brood (30 Hormagaunts) – 150
Hormagaunt Brood (20 Hormagaunts with Toxic Sacs) – 160
Hormagaunt Brood (20 Hormagaunts with Toxic Sacs) – 160

Carnifex Brood (2 Carnifex with 2 Twin-linked Devourers with Brainleech Worms) – 300
Carnifex Brood (2 Carnifex with 2 Twin-linked Devourers with Brainleech Worms) – 300

= 1500

Ended up getting 4 carnifexes on ebay for $60 this past week (time to break out the simple green), zoanthropes stay around the carnifexes for synapse and cover while the 30 gaunts screen for the toxic sac gaunts

This looks like a strong like. The only change I would make would be to drop 9 regular horms (or 6 TS horms) to get a venomthrope. The shrouded would be a great force multiplier and let your swarm survive much longer.

Or you could trade in 2 zoans for 2 broods of 1 venom each. Either way, it would really help you make it across the table.
